Dr Who
Because i can't be the only Dr Who fan on the forums, a thread to talk about anything Dr Who related!
And just to start things off, a spoiler from the new series: |
I am a big Doctor Who fan as well, though the "new" series isn't shown in the US. I am a big fan of the Pertwee and Davison eras, but for some reason I never was terribly fond of the Tom Baker version- so your spoiler wasn't as big a thrill as (for instance) a return by UNIT or Turlough or Nyssa. I haven't seen anything past first few the Sylvester McCoy shows, but I'll be glad to chat about anything related to DW!

Just looked at your spoiler Chris. Anthony Head also played Frank'n'Furter on stage in The Rocky Horror Show. Hmmmm The Master in fishnets and suspenders .... that would be different! :lmao:

I enjoyed the last series of Dr Who! I'm surprised this is the first post on the subject! I've seen a couple of the old ones with my brother and parents, and me and brother were laughing a lot where we shouldn't have been! There was a part with an evil woman who wanted something the Dr and his assistant had, and they played piggy in the middle with her for about three seconds before she keeled over and died, and you realised she's a robot of some sort. Then a Dalek came over the hill and began to say "Extermin -" and then it blew up! :? Then there was this green alien person in one of those things like a big baby walker that they sit in with wheels in who my brother used to be scared of (bless! ), and you could see the actor had to really move his feet to make the thing move!
I'm starting to miss the new episodes, I don't watch a lot of TV as it is, and I'm eagerly awaiting the next installment! :D |
I'm puzzled as to how the Master can return!
If i recall correctly, the Master is a time lord who turned evil. In the last series the Dr said he was the last of the Time Lords as the rest had perished in the Final Time War.:shock: The best baddies were without doubt the Cybermen.:shock::shock::shock: |
And the actor who played The Master was killed in a car crash (I think).
I was dubious about how good the re-vamped show would be but I really enjoyed it. Good storylines with humour added too made a great package. I thought that "killing" the losing contestents on Big Brother and The Weakest Link was a brilliant idea and the farting aliens and Second World War episodes were really well thought out, plus they even made us feel sorry for the last remaining Dalek. The Daleks and the Ice Warriors were the most scary for me. |
He did - Roger Delgado.
They are using old footage of him and morphing it into Anthoney Head for a regeneration. The Ice Warriors were scary- to be honest, i was scared of most of the villains!!! |

Will be great to see the Cyberman back too...so who do we think played the 'ultimate' Doctor? |
I don't think there is an ultimate Dr.
Each of the actors has played the different incarnations in such different ways. William Hartnell and Patrick Troughton both seemed to play very moralistic Drs who were out to do good deeds whereas Eccleston was a much more humourous and mischievous Dr. I kinda liked McCoy's version but only because that wqas the one from my era. All the rest were the old Doctors! The only one I cannot stand is Tom Baker as I cannot abide him in anything! (I know a dodgy story about him but it isn't overly suitable for this forum!!) If I had to choose I would say Ecclestone is the best so far. Having said that, the early clips of some of Tennant's scenes from the Christmas Invasion are brilliant. |
Just remembered the other day that a little while ago I had a dream that a Dalek was chasing me through Sunderland city centre!! It was so scary and so not fair as the town was packed with people yet it was singling me out to chase! And you know how Daleks move quite slowly? Well I was running faster and faster to get on my bus home so I'd be safe, but the Dalek kept catching me up even though it was going at normal speed and............!!!! It finally caught me up and exterminated David Tennant's Dr, who just appeared beside me then out of nowhere, and I can't remember what happened after that, but still............scary!!!!!!!!!!!! :(
|
I know that Roger Delgado (my favorite of the two actors to play "the Master") died in a car accident, but another actor (Anthony Ainley is the name that is popping into my head, though that could be wrong) played him in the Davison era- perhaps he will be used rather than old footage of Delgado?

Time to return from gazing in to the vortex at the heart of the TARDIS to bring you yet another spoiler.
|
Oh my, that's deliciously complicated, idnit? Though <name deleted due to spoiler> would be my last choice of former Doctors, it does sound interesting. Now they need to get going on bringing back my high school boyfriends, Mike Yates and Sgt Benton!

Is Jon Pertwee still alive? |
As far as I know he is.
The stretched skin thing was called Cassandra and she will be back in series two but it will be earlier in time before she became just a piece of skin. |
Sadly, Jon Pertwee died of a heart attack while on vacation here in the States in May of 1996, at the age of 76.
I met the three major member of UNIT in 1984, when I was 15, and I was absolutely enamoured with them for a good 2 or 3 years. Nicholas Courtney (The Brigadier), Richard Frankin (Mike Yates) and John Levene (Sgt Benton) were somehow convinced to come to a "UNIT Reunion" Doctor Who convention in August in Tampa Florida, and the air conditioning went out on the first day of the three day con. They were absolutely melting, all of my photos feature sweat soaked UNIT folks. John Levene goes by a completely different name now (I can't remember what it is), and is an actor and caberet performer on cruise ships in the US. Hows that for useless DW trivia? Sherrie |
Yet more Dr Who related gossipy goodness for you all!
There is to be a new spin-off series of Dr Who. In the last series we met Captain jack who is obviously some sort of alien as he has access to time travel devices and the like. Well, there will be a spin-off starring Captain jack as part of a team who track down and investigate alien technologies and the like when they are stolen or used maliciously. The series will be written by Hunter T. Davies who is the current driving force behind Dr Who. The team will be featured in series 2 of Dr Who and then the separate series will be launched. However, hunter Davies has said that it will not feature time travel which kind of intrigues me! EDIT> there is no point putting this as a hidden spoiler - the BBC have already run the story. The show is to be called Torchwood. (think anagrams!!) |
Thought anagrams Chris. Good one!

Sounds kind of like a cross between The X Files and Afterlife - intriguing! Hope it still has the same blend of intelligent humour! :D
|
I just hope it has the same acting playing Captain Jack as he was really nice looking!
|
It is the same actor. Signed up for a feull season plus christmas special and a couple of guest appearances in he new Dr Who as well.
Reading some of the comments that are floating abut this new programme, it looks distinctly like it could be a sort of UNIT type place. It certainly looks good. More on this as we get it! ;) |
Having just watched episode three, I have to make one comment:
Never ignore the shooty dog type thing! http://news.bbc.co.uk/media/images/3...098_k9_bbc.jpg K9 is back. And He Rocks!!!:twisted::twisted: |
