Drums for CHSIB
Does anyone know why Kenny Aronoff played the drums on most of the CHSIB CD and not John Miceli ???

Either John wasn't availabel for the studio sessions because of other work, or Kenny is a better studio drummer and was available.
Meats recorded albums have often featured musicians who don't tour with him... including the fabulously named Neleam Ymmij who's creditted with playing the African Logs on Deadringer For Love... no coincidence perhaps that the percussionist on that track was Jimmy Maelen? :D |

It all comes down to the timing of the album. I have discussed, in length, this album with various people who claim to be "in the know" and have found that there was indeed a full CD ready to go called Testify! that they were shopping around to the record lables. A couple of the songs (CHSIB and BOY come to mind) came along after the original concept of the Testify! album. Therefore, they were recorded after the original lot of songs; which, if memory serves me correctly, were recorded shortly after the Storytellers era. Some of these songs were (and again this is all from memory and not from my notes of conversations I have had) practiced and known about during the infancy of the Storytellers tour. You can see a definate change in personnell from the inital recording sessions and the later recording sessions. Who knows why Kenny and not John. That would be speculation. Just remember, ultimately CHSIB is a Meat Loaf album - whereas a Meat Loaf concert is ultimately Meat Loaf backed by The Neverland Express. The NLE is not necessarily part of the studio production (BOOH 2 is an excellent cast in point).
Hope this helps, and did not confuse even more. ROCK ON GOOD MUSIC!!! Dave |
