LOTR didn't deserve that many. . .Depp should've won best actor.

Stayed up all nite to watch The Oscars live, I love it. Is a shame, "Something's Gotta Give" did not win an Oscar as I thought it was a great movie...

i am SO glad that return of the king got most of the awards this year since most of the movies of last year in MY mind were rubbish
and that was the only time i went to the pictures was just to see LOTR-ROTK

and that is MY view

Methinks you saw the wrong films. . .

LostSoul 02 Mar 2004 00:54

I'm disappointed for Lost In Translation (only 1 Oscar for Best Original Screenplay) and for In America... two excellent movies!

I'm glad for Sean Penn (Best Actor) though I think he deserved it for 21 Grams more than for Mystic River. Although Mystic River is a good movie.

I'm glad for Tim Robbins as well, he's deserved it for a long time now! at last!

I'm very disappointed for Naomi Watts! but I haven't seen Monster yet, dunno if Charlize Theron deserved it or not.

Too many awards for LOTR I guess...

It was really nice to watch the Oscar-show. It begin 1.00 am and ended in 7.00 am. (CET +2) I stayed up all night long. Thank God I got day off so I could sleep a little bit after the show. (2,5 hours.)

Weezy 02 Mar 2004 15:34

I agree - Johnny Depp (phwoooooooooaaarrrrrr....) should have got best actor....and POTC should have got at least one - was hoping it would get visual effects or sound editing anyway.

Too many for LOTR

Yay for Tim Robbins (phwoar too! ;) )! An oscar at last!

Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Go LOTR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D Best movie ever!!!!!!!!!!!!! Of course it deserved all those oscars! I've never seen anything like it!!! And why did it take so long to win best film and director?????  None of the other movies came close to the success and status of those movies. (I haven't actually seen them, but do you need to see a pop singer in concert to know they'll be nothing compared to seeing Meat?) Insult to everyone involved  Yet, even with it winning them all, I bet it's late Sept. by the time it's released on video dvd over here  At least LOTR gave a Brit the chance to win one through Annie Lennox! :)
BTW if anyone's interested in the scripts for the movies:

www.seatofkings.net

Yes, you do need to see them. Otherwise you're making a value judgement and is not a wise choice if you enjoy widening your celluloid pallete. If you don't want to widen your pallete then . . .meh.

needmoremeat 05 Mar 2004 20:02

What the hell is a celluloid pallete?! :? If you mean broadening my horizons, then it's true to say I don't want to 8) I'm happy loving LOTR above all other movies. But actually, in contrast to the music I like, I have a very broad taste in movies, as well as books (LOTR reigns on the top of my faves list there, too, and yes I have read it: four times in 02). I think it's mainly cos I have a competitive streak over these things: I can't see another best film nominee straight after the best film nominee that I love, I have to have something in between, I saw School of Rock one weekend, that dragged my perception of other movies away from LOTR for a while...until I saw LOTR for the third time during the half term. I very well may see Master and commander when it's available on dvd, Mam's influence and liking of Crowe will play a part there, and I'll understand completely why it was nominated, but really, releasing a movie the same year as the final and best installment of LOTR and hoping to win best film over that is a bit much.

Not if it wasn't the best film of the year. . .

Just to digress a little- If I had to give an Oscar to anyone it would be to my bin man. For the first time in 15 years he has managed to empty it without leaving a trail of trash down the back garden path.
