Result just announced Michelle has won pop idol

How long shall we give her? A month? :wink:

I dont know, you never know she might surprise us

Well I'm really peed off, I tried all night to vote for Mark and never once got through, so how can they say its fair, if that happened to a lot of people (and after all it couldn't of been just me) it must surely effect the result.

That's quite funny actually. Not that you couldn't get through obviously, but because earlier on the show i'm sure I heard the phone company guy say that EVERYONE who wanted to vote would DEFINITELY be able to (may have misheard but i'm sure that's what he said). Damn crappy phone companies.

Yep he did, He said 100% or something like that, stupid people, I dont mind if things are fair but this doesnt seem like it is.I've emailed them and rang them, they said there wasnt a problem with the lines and people were misdialing!!! derrrrrrrrrrrrr

im sorry but she aint gonna get anywhere! shez pants. she may of had the best voice on the nite but i dont think she'll last long.

Michelle may have said that she was not like Meat Loaf and that he was not attractive - but on the night, she had the better vocals

I am sure this will get people talking !!!!!

What he actually said was that IF people were able to get through then 100% of thier votes would be counted.

I think Michelle winning was the right result. She has a fantastic voice and is a great looking gal. She looks to have a bright future ahead of her.

Am glad Michelle won, I voted for her and got through the first time I called.

Am sure Mark will do ok as well.

I missed it cos Ive been out (again!). Watched it on ITV2 after, I wanted Mark to win cos I think he is just so versatile and quite cute but that has nowt to do with wanting him to win (Well not much anyway). time will tell how Michelle fairs.

I think the whole thing this yr was a weird competition. last yr Will was my fav all the way through and to this day seeing his face when he won was my best tv moment ever :D But this yr, none of them really did anything for me. I did want Sam to get in on the wild card week and have supported him all the way through, but to me he was a little to much like Will. Hope he wins world idol now :) If I can't get through for that i'll really lose it lol

Bottom line is that Michelle, like any new artist these days will last as long as her record companies want to promote her.

If, and only if, she has the talent to keep in the "big time" and has the songwriters and musicians and producers behind her (again courtesy of the record company) will she build a big enough fan base where over time she can survive with minimal publicity and promotion.

Compare Meats situation with Polydor - he gets little promotion from them really compared to many artists today, and as a consequence only gets mediocre chart success in terms of sales....yet he still manages to perform sell out tours. Will Michelle be doing the same in 25+yrs time? Unlikely.

I only caught two snippets of the whole of pop idol (I've far better things to be doing with my time than being told who to like by TV) one of the snippets was right at the start when Michelle was being auditioned and the "judges" were proclaiming that she'd not make it as "she may have the voice but she didn't have the looks of a pop idol and then tonight they've carried out a complete 180 and are all saying how glad they are she was in the final becuase she was different - - - hypocrites the lot of them!!

Well, much as I liked Mark, I wanted Michelle to win as she has by far the better voice. I think she will last as she does have a lovely personality also. Don't knock her because she does not match up to Meat - she is far younger and less experienced. Don't knock her because of what she is SUPPOSED to have said about Meat in The Mirror (before his reply).

The papers often misquote people and make things up! I was there on Wednesday when Meat had a go at her (in fun) while holding up a copy of The Mirror. What was later reported was not what happened and what was said on that stage!

The Sun did a small write-up about this, that I described in a post as "utter gibberish" and I note that since then Fireball himself has posted that he did not like The Sun write-up. What they wrote was not true and made Meat out to be a sulking bully!

On the other hand in the same post Fireball has said that his reply was a joint effort between himself and The Mirror. More of Meat's humour! He sent Michelle flowers, which was really sweet, so he was not offended by what The Mirror reported.

Wise words flom glasshopper Andy's soapbox :) .. and from the bits I've seen of this contest the volte face the judges have done over Michelle suggests as tight a turning circle as a London cab!!

She had the stronger voice on the night, and if she can develop some of Meat's stage presence and manage the one thing all seem to be so concerbned about (ie her size) with the sheer style he did when he made his name, she stands a pretty fair chance.

IF she said exactly what she is quoted as saying about being compared to Meat, she might want to rethink .. if she was advised to say this she might want to rethink her advisers .. better to embrace such a comparison imo. The sad thing is that looks appear to count more than the voice in today's pop world, and this will be a constant battle for her .. so being compared to someone as hugely successful as Meat is a positive. If she was misquoted /misrepresented, now is the time to make that clear. As Heather has pointed out Meat certainly was by that masterclass of inaccurate "reporting", the Sun.

Give her a chance!! The poor girl has only just started out, she has got a good voice and with the right coach she will go on to bigger and better things.
