Favourite non Jim Steinman Meat Loaf songs
Thought I'd start a new Meat Loaf thread.....
I'm sure most of us would agree most of Meat's best work has been with Steinman, however he has also made some great songs with other writers. My personal favorites are... 1. Couldn't Have Said it Better 2. Blind as a Bat 3. Piece of the Action What are other people's top 3? |
1. Prize Fight Lover (2010 version mostly - I prefer it to a lot of Steinman stuff in fact, the production and passion in Meat's vocals. Insane.).
2. Did I Say That? 3. Blind As A Bat Notable mentions CHSIB, Where The Rubber Meets The Road, Modern Girl, What About Love, Alive, Rock n Roll Hero, I'd Lie For You (Ant That's The Truth), Execution Day. All superb. |

Prize Fight Lover (2010) Alive That's my top 3, but there are more in the queue. For example: Execution Day, Another Day or I'd Lie For You (And That's The Truth). :-) |
I'm an oddity in many ways, but one of them is that when it comes to non-Jim material sung by Meat, I generally prefer things Meat wrote or had a hand in writing, like:
(alphabetical order, not necessarily order of preference) Blind Before I Stop Execution Day Keep Driving Lost Love Love Is Not Real / Next Time You Stab Me In The Back Midnight At The Lost And Found One More Kiss (Night Of The Soft Parade) R.P.M. Not making pot shots. I actually think its an interesting thing to see how even within Meat's vast catalogue how varied all the opinions are. I always liked either version of prize fight lover as the vocals on both are great. Peace on earth, the music and vocals are attempting to rip your skin off. Giving tree, california dreaming, blue sky are all great. Testify is good fun as is Mercury Blues and Tear me Down. Blind before I stop and execution day. Midnight. Sailor to a siren, modern girl. Boneyard. what about love. Suppose its the same for everyone, given Meat is an emotional performer the fave songs change depending on my mood. But he's sang something for every mood. |
