Probably because the amount of money to be made VS the amount of money to make them into DVD/Blu RAY is too small.

Unfortunately many of Meat's best filmed shows were done for Viacom (VH1) and I'm sure that plays some role meanwhile stuff like ConcertOne filmed is made available which is not the same quality as VH-1 although much more recent.

Meat is one of the few artists with DVD's out which while fine are not the best material available IMO.

Meat posted on here a couple of years ago that they wanted to release these concerts but didn't offer him enough money so he said no.

Yup, together with 'the History of Meat Loaf' I'd love to have the full Beacon show on DVD. Of course there are a few other nice televised shows but those two are my personal favorites. (of the tv broadcasted concerts, that is) :D

I wouldn't say no if they were released on DVD, but they're not at the top of my list. In Meat's collection he has professionally filmed shows from the Bat 2, Born To Rock and Very Best Of tours.

I'd rather these get released as:

a) I've already seen the MTV shows
b) They are full concerts, not shortened promo shows
c) They feature large arenas with thousands of fans instead of small theatres and a few hundred fans

I obviously agree 100%. But I was merely talking about televised shows.

Even if you look at 'single cam' recordings by Meat's crew there must be some real treasures in the vault of the pre-Bat 2 area. Toad's Place is a perfect example. And I think the recordings only got better since 1992. But I would even love if we got another 'Toad'-like concert! Now that's not too much to ask, is it? :twisted:

I would welcome anything "new" (to us), like Adje I was referring to televised shows because The Hard Rock, Beacon, and History were all filmed (and well-filmed) by or for Viacom (VH-1, etc.) so the money is no doubt an issue. But these shows were better filmed than the job Concertone did - am I glad we got that DVD ... yes, did the company do a good job - not really.

Most artists seem to have their best available shows out on DVD, but with Meat we have stuff like The Original Tour and Guilty Pleasures which was not him at his very best at least IMO. The Symphony Disc was good and the songs on Storytellers were well done though.
I just would like to have those VH-1 shows in top available quality they were done in the 90's and look better than the GP dvd did to me.

In Meat Loaf's defense I doubt he planned on being ill for all his filmed concerts. It's just down to very bad luck and probably a poor immune system. Also in the case of 3 Bats I doubt he expected his own management company to prevent him from redoing vocals and James Michael to do a poor job of mixing the audio. In the case of Guilty Pleasures I doubt he expected ConcertOne to make such a hash of everything.

All that said, it is puzzling why there's so little live product available from the Bat 2 - Very Best Of period as Meat was incredibly popular, especially in Europe. Storytellers was primarily for the American market, with the European release an afterthought. Live Around The World was never officially released in Europe either. All we got was a bunch of B-sides of varying quality.

Certainly it was no fault of Meat's. He was doing his job as the performer and he could not help what production companies and managers did. The thing that is unfortunate is that the best overall footage that we know exists is at least partially controlled by one of the world's largest media conglomerates and it probably complicates things enough to make it worthwhile for everyone involved.

As far as I'm aware the show from Ahoy, Rotterdam in 1994 isn't owned by Viacom. Neither is the Berlin show from 1996 or the one from the Very Best Of tour (I forget which concert was filmed.) I suspect they're owned either by Universal Music Group or Meat Loaf himself.
