Okay...I figured out how the mystical vaults of Meat Loaf live recordings should be released. I believe the record company should partner with Sirius XM Satellite Radio to get Meat Loaf a limited engagement station to coincide with the release of the new album. Bruce Springsteen, Elvis Presley, Jimmy Buffett, Grateful Dead, Pearl Jam, and now Billy Joel all have good stations...why not Meat Loaf?

Well the billy channel sucks. nothing unreleased has ever been put up that wasnt on an album, official live album, or My Lives.

Meat has told me he has most boardtapes since 1986........ time will tell

Quite frankly, it's my belief that Meat Loaf doesn't want the stuff in the vault to come out. Meat is frantic about fan sharings. And lets
face it, I can rip the audio from these stations as easy as I can rip a video from YouTube.

For whatever reason -and it's his good right of course- Meat rather keeps it hidden away then having fans share it among their community.

Our best chance of hearing the mystic recordings from his vault, is after his death. And if that's the case then let's hope we still have to wait for a long time ;)

You are wrong! I listened to the Billie Joel Town Hall event. That was new.

No... Ive been lsitening to it in my car since it started.

that aired cause it was recorded on Sirius. i mean it was advertized as having unreleased stuff and such. SOmetimes they play some stock interview tape things, but nothing live thats been unreleased officially.

Im sure if Meat had a channel, theyd air his old Howard interviews.

The Town Hall was a live event on the Billie Joel station. I listened to it there.

No, SiriusXM took the time and effort to coordinate a completely new radio special that was the Town Hall event. Further, had you actually listened for comprehension to the Town Hall, you would have learned that Billie Joel plans on being more hands on in the development of his station going forward.

Howard 101 recently re-aired an older Meat Loaf interview. It was some good stuff! Meat Loaf would love the freedom that satellite radio would allow him.

Dave, i listened to the whole 3 hour thing. If you only knew how big a billy fan I am!

Some covers were great (OTGDY), but that doowop group that did Longest time was terrible.

He did Scandinavian Skies which was Amazinggggg and one of the best Viennas.

As for what Billy said, he wants to be more hands on and play music He wants to listen to, not air unreleased things is what i got from that announcement.

I love how he took a pee break lol.

Also, ya your right actually. a Meat Loaf Town hall would be great. Its just That stuff for Billy comes too and far between. The radio station needs to air some unreleased boardtapes.

The Joel Radio Station 99% of the time is my ipod on shuffle.

Speaking of Meat, I don't doubt he has board tapes of every show as do most artists. But I doubt there will ever be a commercial release as that just doesn't seem to happen much anymore.
We have only seen one commercial release of Randy Rhoads with Ozzy and I would have expected a bit more,
A great concept would be the best of Meat in the 70's, 80's and so on but all live performances.
The more I listen the better I like Meat vocally on CHSIB. Love to hear more live stuff from that era

Friday, September 9, 2003... Meat Loaf & The Neverland Express in Cleveland OH ... it was a Hot Summer Night and magic was laid out vocally on that stage that night. That was the night we felt we had a private party just for a select few....with about 7,000 people behind us. I agree..that was a golden age!

I just threw my CHSIB cd back in my car yesterday. I love that album. From the first line of CHSIB to the last line of Mercury Blues. Meat's voice was great in it. A lot of passion and fun in all of the songs, I think.

I don't think Meat Loaf wants it out yet as it will invite comparisons to his current work and because he is too busy to sort through it. I assume he'll get Paul Crook to assist him and he is also currently busy. I suspect we'll see some of the older stuff in a couple of years.

No we won't. Unless we see Meat sell what he chooses to, to some record company where he has total say over all aspects of the release. And the only good time to do that is on the heels of his next album and only then if it is a huge success,

I wouldn't hold my breath either. I don't think Meat is focused on making money from them, nor does he want to issue them in any way which means they can be passed around, and he's realised that is inevitable now.

I think he's always focused on creating something new, achieving another vision, and any time he found on his hands would be swiftly used to further these, or invested in filming and TV. I think he is hugely concerned always with quality, puts great effort into releasing the best albums he can, and may be slightly bemused by the constant desire of some fans to hear most or every board tape ever recorded ;) In every show there will be parts he's pleased with and parts he's not .. and I simply don't see him investing the time in the selection and production that would be required for him to be happy with releasing them.

Wow Caryl, you really think about what Meat Loaf thinks. I wonder if this is what he really thinks? Something to think about.

While others state almost as fact what they believe he will or won't do, or tell him what he should or shouldn't do or feel ;)

I have a huge issue, a broken promise, a wrongful blame I was delt with, that almost had me leave here. I really dont know what to think on the whole vault situation right now.

We have been promised forthcoming board tapes for years now...I just accept it as a just another "story" in the legacy. It is fun to think it will happen, but this promise is something I have learned to accept with a grain of salt.

Maybe Meat is just tired of people going on about the quality of his voice and comparing it to what it was in the 70s compared to the 80s compared to the 90s compared to so on and so on to the point its kind of pointless

I don't think the kind of diehard fans that board tapes would attract would waste their time on such comparisons, but its a moot point and as Dave said, the issue of the promised vault tapes is one to be taken with a pinch of salt.

At this stage and with the state of the music biz a lot of veteran rock acts have given up on new releases entirely, so we're lucky we have what we have to look forward to at least.

My theory is that it isn't going to happen for numerous possible reasons.

I'm still baffled that anyone ever thought something could not be copied when even commercial CD's can be copied. But stuff has been being copied since the invention of the tape recorder and ways have only grown more sophisticated.

I'm also not sure there is huge money to be made since only die-hard fans would want the stuff any way and I can't see it being sold in huge quantites as bootlegs either.

The fact we do know is that promised stuff from the vault never showed up so it is not so unreasonable to presume nothing that has not been promised will be forthcoming.

I thought most die-hard fans who still see the shows and buy all the albums realized by now that Meat's voice has changed over the years like anyone elses does and were mostly over it.

People here even talk about his voice in eras, not necessarily that one is better than the other but that there are notable phases and preferences. Wario (who - forgive me if I'm putting words in his mouth) seems to be the main champion of the mid-late 80s arena rock voice. People who came onboard during the 90s often prefer the Everything Louder tour. Old school fans want to hear everything from the late 70s run and often think it's unsurpassed. For my part, I love the more nuanced recent performances, thought the shows I saw in the 2000s were okay at the time but now wouldn't listen to them (since he's surpassed them now with better ones and my view of them at the time was that they was tempered by the idea that they were probably an icon who I loved's last performances) and will listen to virtually anything else besides that second Rockpalast show.

Do you think that if say, we were given an unreleased Born To Rock tour show that we'd all waste our time comparing it to the 70s or 2014 and not view it in the context of a '95-96 show? I'd like to think we've got past that.

I think we have seen quite a few upsets on the board in the past when people unintentionally compare Meat to his past.
I think that is all part of what the artist has to offer. Nothing is ever going to be a carbon copy of what preceded it or it becomes stale and for lack of a better word safe.
I like the fact that Meat pushes the envelope with everything he does. He seems to constantly want to move forward with the way he expresses himself.
