What about Piano Man and Uptown Girl ? Its like listing Meat Loaf's top ten and omitting Bat Out Of Hell and Anything For Love - but I guess you'd do that as well  !

seagullsim 30 Apr 2012 00:02

You've missed off some fantastic ones..

Christie Lee
Scenes from an Italian Restaurant
Baby Grand
Big Shot

All classics. I really like River of Dreams as well, although I know most people don't....

AndrewG 30 Apr 2012 01:59

Nutter, Billy Joel without "Scenes of an Italian Restaurant" is like Batman without his cape. FACT.

Wario 30 Apr 2012 05:13

Italian resturant is in my top 20. I also didnt put Angry Young Man which I adore

Julie in the rv mirror 30 Apr 2012 06:57

Piano Man and Uptown Girl are great songs but like Bat Out Of Hell and I'd Do Anything For Love they suffer from being huge hits. I love all of these songs but if you hear something too often, it's beginning to lose its attraction and you need a break from it for a while to enjoy and appreciate it again.

Billy has written only a few songs I'm not very fond of, most of his stuff is excellent. Very, very hard to list only ten songs.

- Scenes From An Italian Restaurant
- The Great Suburban Showdown
- Leningrad
- Summer, Highland Falls
- Miami 2017 (Seen The Lights Go Out On Broadway)
- Everybody Has A Dream
- The Downeaster "Alexa"
- Honesty
- Vienna
- Everybody Loves You Now

Overplayed, just like a lot of his songs. I agree with Sarge- sometimes you have to not hear them for a long time before you can appreciate them again.

The last time I saw Billy Joel, he only played one "album cut" ("Zanzibar"), after he first explained to the audience what an "album cut" is. The rest of his set was mostly greatest hits, which I'm not complaining about, but a few of the songs I'm just really tired of (yet they got a huge reaction from the crowd). "Piano Man" is even becoming cliched, but he and Elton John sang it together (It was a "Face-to-Face" show), and had the audience sing along, to the point where they stopped singing and let the audience take over. There's something about 40,000 people singing together that's just chill-inducing.

Opposed to Elton John's set , during which I loved every single song. Maybe I'm just a bigger fan of Elton than of Billy, but I felt that Elton mixed the hits with lesser-known songs better than Billy did. Although, I can't think of a single Elton John song that I'm tired of- maybe "Candle in the Wind", after the whole Princess Diana thing. (Not knocking Diana- I liked her and I felt genuinely sad when she died) But, if he'd played it that night, I'm sure I would have loved it. "Your Song" actually gave me goosebumps, even after 30+ years of hearing it.

Anyway, sorry to digress...

(Review of the show, if anyone's interested: http://leisureblogs.chicagotribune.c...ley-field.html)

D'Oh! I take it back- he did play "Candle in the Wind"- old age, you know...

Well, kudos for 1, 3, 4, 7, 9, 10 - but the rest ... ?!! But I guess (almost) Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad ...

Maybe she just can't stand Billy Joel?

But I agree. This is ridiculous. Obviously she doesn't like the whole thread. Why doesn't she just ignore it? She doesn't have to click or read it.

Since anyone can see who DISLIKED something, the SHE in question is known to all, so this becomes a question of a specific person. If you have a question of someone, personally, you should inbox that someone personally and ask them your question, as part of forum rules. What I bolded almost made my top 10 video. Glorious songs. Never really got into Everybody loves you now for some reason. I like Sumer Highland Falls, but I dont really play i much. Billy seems to lie playing it live a lot for some reason. he even did it at a political event when asked to chose one song to perform in its entirety. Its sad the only live version of The Great Suburban Showdown that has been performed is from an abridged masterclass session early this year :(

Im also gonna add my disappointment in the Billy Joel live at Shea DVD. The DVD omits the best songs: 'The Entertainer', 'Big Shot', 'Still RnR to me', 'The Downeaster 'Alexa', and 'Movin' Out'. He even did a 'Stand by me/Innocent Man' medley that got cut from the DVD. makes one thankful only MErcury Blues is getting the axe from the new Meat DVD.

When it becomes a personal attack which this has become then it is in violation of forum rules.

By continually singling ONLY me out for Disliking posts, yes you are making this very personal. If you don't like my actions, then please do as Sarge says and ignore it. Please do not continue to personally come at me because of a legimate action that is allowed as part of this forum

Tri.somethin 27 Jun 2012 07:38

Now this crap is cycling into other threads? /facepalm.

Just because you can, doesn't mean to say you should. Surely you can expect some backlash because of the actions you have taken yourself, which is also public to see. So please; both parties cut it out.

Back on topic....!

Does anyone like the 2000 years song? I thought it was superb and such a fitting way to bring in the millennium. One of Billy's best songs in my opinion. BTW crazy Piano man was played at that show but is not on the live CD.

Its actually no tat all that crazy andrew. I love the performance of 2000 years (the only tour in which it has ever been performed live. Strangely both Piano Man and Uptown Girl are omitted from the CD.

But Piano Man was indeed released as an extra track on The Complete Hits Collection: 1973-1997 Limited Edition CD.

have no idea why it wasnt released on the actual release. Its like omitting Bat Out of hell from the MSO CD.
