Meat's second biggest hit

I know AFL was Meat's biggest worldwide hit, but what was his second best-charting song worldwide? I'd Lie For You?

Monstro 01 Jul 2011 18:22

Welcome to the forum!!!!

Good question, I'd have said ILFY as well

ShelbyLee 01 Jul 2011 18:31

Thank you very much. I have been a Meat Loaf fan most of my life, so thank you for letting me join the forum.

 Welcome to the forum
I'd say you were right with ILFY.
That got to No 2.

ShelbyLee 01 Jul 2011 19:42

Thanks.

I would have to say 2 out of 3. It was a hit in the US where you very rarely hear a Meat song and it is on tons of compilations of 70s hits, etc. After that maybe I'd Lie For You because I saw the singles selling for 50 cents in the US after it came out so I am sure it helped.

I would be surprised if it HAD done a lot better, not because of the quality of the album, but because everyone who attended got a free copy of the CD (At least in the UK), I can't imagine many people who saw the show went out to buy it as well! Maybe some additional word of mouth sales though.

nikox1 03 Jul 2011 02:57

A million shipped out ww as far as I know ?

That's a good question. ILFY always got a huge audience response when it was performed at the shows.

A Slice Of English 08 Jul 2011 19:23

Perhaps because with one huge duet ballad like AFL, ILFY would be overkill in one concert.

It wasn't overkill on the WTTN tour or the Greatest Hits tour. The audience loved it.

Smithie 11 Jul 2011 21:28

ILFY is an awesome live song. I'm surprised it has never been included on a concert dvd.

Evil One 11 Jul 2011 21:39

That's more on account that Meat hasn't done it live since DVD's were invented and nothing from the back catalogue seems forthcoming.

 I'm sure he has
I'm 99% sure it was on the set list the first time I saw him live in 2003.

Evil One 11 Jul 2011 22:05

True, but it was off the set by the time he hit Australia. I think For Crying Out Loud was a fair swap. :D

 I was wrong on two counts

I first saw Meat in 2002, not 2003, and I'd Lie For You wasn't on the set list.

That's a shame. There were so many great televised concerts from the 90s that would make awesome dvds.
