I've never been keen on this song. It doesn't fit well with the rest of Dead Ringer, like it was a remnant from something else and Jim had no other songs left.

Couldn't disagree more I think it's a great song. A nice soft ballad in my opinion. Good vocals too.

duke knooby 10 Sep 2010 17:00

did the deadringer album ever have the name deadringer on the front cover???

Sarge 10 Sep 2010 17:21

No, only the UK picture disc had "Dead Ringer" printed on it.

Steve6 10 Sep 2010 18:02

I wonder why that was though? Maybe they were unsure of the album title when the artwork was being complete. :| Or maybe having Dead Ringer printed on the cover of the album would take away from the awesomeness of the picture.

Pudding 11 Sep 2010 00:54

I don't like this song.

You could probaly say it sounds nothing like a Steinman song alright.

I actually really like this song, although i agree with Evil One i don't think it fits into the Dead Ringer album. But i am not too fussed about that.

Evil One 11 Sep 2010 01:51

You can tell it is a Steinman song by the lyrics. They just aren't up to his usual standard.

24K 11 Sep 2010 01:53

I think they are not the best he has done, but for me they were good enough.

Evil One 11 Sep 2010 01:56

True. A nugget of gold is still better than a dollop of shit.

I don't care if it sounds like a Steinman song or not, I just don't like it.

allrevvedup 11 Sep 2010 02:06

am I missing something (probably you all say) or is there no difference in this version to the original?

either way it's not one of Steinman's best and at a guess I'd say they desperately needed a last song and this was it.

Evil One 11 Sep 2010 02:08

Where exactly did Everything Is Permitted come from? Has anyone ever said? Is it another piece of Neverland or from something else?

It's one of the songs that Jim never mentions or talks about, and a song that Meat never sings live. It's goes to show you they never valued the song much.

MeatGrl1 11 Sep 2010 02:31

I listened to Dead Ringer the other day, not listened to it in like forever but will admit this isn't the greatest song in the world and I certainly don't need or desire more of it  !! I think it's long enough as it is...

One thing you have to remember though... Jim didn't produce the Dead Ringer album, and we draw our conclusions on it's sound and quality to quickly. A lot of people might not have liked Everything is Permitted, but it could have sounded completely different if Jim had a produced it. Other producers can't take his songs to a whole level like he can. I'm sure he listened to it and said I would done it different. Jim's way is the best way. :yep:

In an interview or some source I pretty sure it said Jim arranged almost everything on the record and supplied the songs.....

It was meat's job to get the vocals down and guitars. Being as EIP had a low guitar mix, I think its safe to say its what Jim would have had in mind.

There'd be the same lyrics and the notes would have been in the same order, no matter who produced it it would still be shit.
