Best performers over 60

Who are the best live performers you have seen over the age of 60? My list includes The Rolling Stones, Tina Turner, Cher, Fleetwood Mac, and of course Meat.

AndyK 03 Sep 2010 19:28

Meat, Bruce, The Stones and Tina.

samurai7 03 Sep 2010 19:28

I've seen Fleetwood Mac and the Eagles, and Bruce (although I think he may have been 59 at the time ;) ) and the brilliant Neil Diamond, who was nearer 70! And this Summer I saw the amazing Paul McCartney!

All the above.

The thing that sets them to stand out is simple... They all have real talent

I agree. The concerts of the young artists I've been to have, for the most part, been forgettable. Then you go to see these legends and they just blow you away. I'm sure it's time and experience but it's also genuine talent to sustain that kind of energy and drive.

Cliff Richard is still going strong.

AndrewG 03 Sep 2010 19:43

Meat & Bruce

The-Meat-85 03 Sep 2010 19:46

Meat, of course, Tom Jones still belts them out. I saw Ozzy Osbourne in Oxford in July and he can still go.

allrevvedup 03 Sep 2010 19:47

Steven Tyler...without a doubt

Megan 03 Sep 2010 19:52

I saw Elton John and Billy Joel last year.. not too bad for a couple of piano players! :) they still have the audience in the palm of their hands!

Vickip 03 Sep 2010 19:56

Meat, Elton John, Huey Lewis and Tom Jones.

Simon & Garfunkel were amazing when I saw them live a few years ago, but I think Garfunkel is having throat problems now and had to cancel their tour. I would love to see Neil Diamond or Cher in concert just once :-)

mib 03 Sep 2010 19:57

Kenny Rogers, Neil Sedaka

Vicki, if you can make it to Cher's show, you have to see it. It's quite a spectacle. And when Patti was there, the vocals in that show were unbelievable.

Excellent :))

I wonder if Patti's going to be back with Cher again (temporarily) before she goes over to the UK with Meat :??:
Anyway, I heard that Cher may be going back on tour again, so hopefully I'll finally get my chance to see her.

Thinking about it, the artists we've had tickets to over the past few years have all been over 60 (and if not over 60 then pretty close!)...

Meat, The Boss, Kenny Rogers (my god I love that man!), Tina (most amazing woman I've ever seen, I swear she and Patti could rule the world), Elton John, Def Leppard and Whitesnake, Southside Johnny...

For someone my age that's actually quite an odd list isn't it, oh how different things could have been had I got into Boyzone as a child

AndyK 03 Sep 2010 20:25

Forgot about Kenny. For someone I wasn't too fussed about in the past, I'd go see him again in concert in an instant!

Most "new" bands or artists these days don't spend the time learning their craft on the road and so don't learn how to put on a good show from hard earned experience. I can think of very few exceptions to this apart from The Gaslight Anthem, who must be one of the hardest working bands in the business at the moment. They've been on tour since around April and are continuing until December they've barely stopped. As an example they played Reading and Leeds Festivals this last Friday and Saturday in the UK and then back on the road in the US on Tuesday!

Cher's Vegas shows start Sept. 4, and Patti is still with Meat so I guess not. I also heard Cher hint about touring again in an interview. That would be awesome.

Wario 03 Sep 2010 21:10

This should be The best performer over 60 BESIDES Meat.

Id have to say Robin Williams

I saw them last year as well...they were fantastic! Peter Frampton puts on a great show as well, and of course there's Broooooooce!!! :D

I've only seen Tina Turner on TV, but IMO, she blew Beyonce off the stage at the Grammys Last year (?). I would love to see Cher as well.

LucyK! 03 Sep 2010 21:41

Having listened to Tina for years I expected to be disappointed with her show as she couldn't possibly still be as good as she was, we also saw some reviews that weren't brilliant but she absolutely blew us away. Andy and I met up with a friend of mine during the interval and we were all in complete disbelief at how fantastic she was...note perfect and still doing every move of every dance routine in stilettoes...what a woman!

Sarge 03 Sep 2010 22:06

Many of the artists I would list have been mentioned already. I'd like to add Ray Charles (unfortunately he died some years ago) and Neil Young.

duke knooby 04 Sep 2010 00:53

Indeed. Although I haven't seen him at beyond 50 he was pretty damn awesome then and I would imagine he still has that awesomeness. Apparently touring towards the end of the year as well.

Betty 04 Sep 2010 01:31

Cher and John Farnham
