Best live version of For Crying Out Loud?

My favourite is from the El Mocambo show, but I think this is from a radio broadcast and not on the LP. I'm not really a fan of the Bottom Line LP as I don't think Meat and band had got into the swing of things yet. The LATW version is a bit too slow so my vote has to go to the MSO one.

Jayd 25 Jun 2010 14:37

MSO definately :D

duke knooby 25 Jun 2010 15:14

all of them

Wario 25 Jun 2010 18:01

el mocombo, only thing is on that theirs a stupid sound blip.

MSO close second and Old Waldorf a very close third.

I'm with El Mocambo as well, not just for the song, but also for the excellent introduction. For me this is what early Meat Loaf was all about!

GTB 25 Jun 2010 19:28

Is there anywhere I can listen to the El Mocambo performance? I've never heard it and FCOL is one of my favourite Meat/ Jim songs of all time!

Listen to it here

Can I ask what LATW stands for:oops:
I often listen to live at my father's place, not sure if that was ever released, but love that version!

And MSO too, by the way!

I'm pretty sure you mean one of the Bottom Line shows. My Father's Place was a promo LP and it didn't have FCOL on it.

Definately MSO one for me, just for the emotion and the passion. The MSO concert as a whole was brilliant.

A Slice Of English 21 Jul 2010 00:38

MSO is great but I actually do like the LATW version as well despite the apparent slowness of it. The recorded version on Bat was sped up so I actually like the LATW version for its "honesty" if that makes sense.

I just listened to the Bottom Line shows here, http://www.wolfgangsvault.com/meat-loaf/ and that version of FCOL, especially the early show, is amazing! With Jim on piano- I love the way he works a bit of "Seize the Night" into the intro. Had he written "Seize the Night" that long ago? Or, maybe it came out of his tinkering with the FCOL intro?

Sorry if this has been discussed before- I did a search and couldn't find anything about it or Wolfgang's Vault- there are a couple of other shows and interviews you can listen to there (along with tons of other concerts by many artists).

its intro cuts off at the end of the LP....

I think For Crying Out Loud is perfect on the album, one of the best if not the best song all around the world.

The live version is worse because of the arrangements. Only orchestra can give feeling back. His vocal in the last 10 years were bad for this song, so the only orchestra version was bad as well. I vote Mocombo, because his voice was great, he wasn't out of rhythm, enough fast...

You must be joking. How can you say Meat's voice has been bad for the last 10 years? When he sang this on the MSO DVD it is fantastic and nothing wrong with his voice there. At all the recent shows, Meat's voice has been the best ever.

Carole don't take the bait, we all know what this guy is like, there's no point responding to his posts. Hardly anyone on the forum agrees with the things he says anyway, so like I said, don't take the bait.

On another note, going slightly off topic, didn't Meat say at the MSO concert it was the first time he had done FCOL live since 1977? My friend was upset about this because there's the version on LATW, and there's some other performances during 85 i think? Anyone care to shed some light on this?

AndyK 29 Oct 2010 12:33

Please bear in mind that White of High is Hungarian, English isn't his first language. As such, sometimes what appears to be an "inflammatory comment" could be something that is clumsily worded perhaps?

Anyway, back to FCOL, I know Meat performed some of the song on the VBO tour in 1999, certainly at Wembley because I remember him singing it as clear as day, also I think it made a few appearances during the Storytellers tour, not sure if it was the whole song or part of it though. I've no recollection of it ever being performed live in 1985 during the Bad Attitude era.
