Mercury seek fans' input for Meat's next release!!

The Republic of Loafdom is thrilled to announce a joint project with Mercury Records, Meat's recording company in the UK.

Mercury Records is gearing towards its next commercial release for Meat and and want to get the content right so the fans get what they want! To do this they have asked ROL to front this exercise and seek information from the fans.

This is a great opportunity to let them know what you want, AND everyone who completes their simple questionnaire will be entered in a draw for one of 5 autographed copies of the new album!!

All you have to do is visit:
http://www.republic-of-loafdom.com/main/NewSingle.htm

and complete the questionnaire which can be accesssed from the page. Full details are given there.

Your answers will go straight to Mercury's Product Manager. We all discuss what we'd like to see included on Meat's next single release .. this is our chance to let him and the company know!! So don't miss out on this great opportunity to have your voice heard, and to be in the draw for one of those autographed CDs :)

This is awesome - what an opportunity - have filled out questionaire

CarylB 06 Jun 2003 02:42

It really is awesome isn't it Dot? Giving the fans a say :)))))) Just wonderful!!

Jen 06 Jun 2003 02:50

Heading there now, great idea... now to see if they pay attention

CarylB 06 Jun 2003 02:59

I'd have thought so Jen .. why would they go to all this trouble if they're not interested? Now, I may not get exactly what I want .. but I think they will take account of what most do and do their best :))

Jen 06 Jun 2003 03:15

Here's hoping so... maybe I can be a little too pessimistic at times :D

sherrie87 06 Jun 2003 04:38

I think this is very cool- it is outstanding that Meat and the record company want our input, and it's great just how specific they want that input to be! I enjoyed filling it out, considering the possibilities of what could be on the new singles! I'm hoping to win one of the five autographed CD's- now if only Meat would hand deliver it! (You know Florida is very nice this time of year.)

Anyway, big thanks to ROL for getting involved in this!

This is a great idea. Will be interesting to see what we actually get on the B-side of Testify.

Louise 06 Jun 2003 10:53

Have just sent off my questionnaire. Hoping now that I win CD though not very likely! Great that they want to know what the fans think, how many other bands/singers would care as much?

ChrisBelfast 06 Jun 2003 12:46

my number one choice woulda been for the cd to be marketed properly but that option wasn't there lol. Maybe this is their way of apologising.

CarylB 06 Jun 2003 12:55

Yes Chris .. now we've got the questionnaire up and running I'm about to start asking questions about how many singles will be pressed this time .. more than 6500 I hope!!!!

ChrisBelfast 06 Jun 2003 13:04

Mercury have to realise that this is something different for meat and he willgain some new fans as a result, certainly non meat fans will buy it too. This has the potential to bea summer hit, there's always a catchy summer song every year!!

Also, i think mercury should release Testify on 2 different cd's. Then sales will be better because us fans at least will buy both cd's. Also more of our requests could featured over 2 cd editions of the song. I liked the 2 diferent cds of DIST polydor released in germany!! I think 2 cd's is the key to a lot more sales.

mariella 06 Jun 2003 14:44

Great job, Caryl!

Can't wait to see what happens next!
Do you have any idea which song will be released in the US as a single?
Testify? :bunny:
Gues I will have to be patient!

Thank you so much,

Mariella

Don't know the planned release date yet, but have asked and ex[lained that we want to be in a position to create interest this time with our efforts. As soon as | have any infol I will post it. :))

original sin 06 Jun 2003 17:20

Other posts have suggested that Testify has been named as the lead track this is for the additionals the bonus and a bonus for us to have some input..........bet they have their tail between their legs for their performance over CHSIB.

they need to add a few more 0's on the production amounts this time round

CarylB 06 Jun 2003 17:27

You speak the truth oh Grasshopper .. lol

heat 06 Jun 2003 17:55

Thanks for posting the link, Caryl - i've just sent mine off

Here's hoping they finally listen to us :D

It's come to my attention that some people are apparently complaining about this exercise. In particular this has been posted on the internet:

Quote:

Several fans are questioning Mercury's choice of website for this venture. Republic of Loafdom is a "fantasy" site that features such wonders as Meat dressed up as an Easter Bunny. One of the owners of the site previously made these comments about Mercury:
"What a shame if Mercury's lack of faith and small production run does mean that the single will go no higher ...... in fact I can't see how Mercury could do more harm to the single than they've done so far"
"Unsigned musicians will Mercury promote you if you sign?
Mercury has released Meat Loaf's new single and album, but seem determined to make the single fail. Copies were not available in the stores on the release date, local radio stations seem to be unaware of it and have not received copies. How can it make their playlists when the record company responsible don't even bother? This company seems determined to try to scupper it at the onset.
A salutory warning to anybody considering recording with them I'd say!!
CarylB"
Whoever has put this on the net has had neither the fairness, nor the courtesy, to put my comments in the context of the time. If we cast our minds back I think this was how many of us felt, and my comments were no more severe than others made, indeed less than some. I stand by everything I said about Mercury at the time, indeed I sent my comments to Mercury's MD. Perhaps because of my correspondence with the MD and others in the organisation they chose me and my website when they decided to put more effort into the next release. I personally think it's great that they want to make this effort, but of course any who do not feel this do not have to participate.

As to ROL being merely a fantasy site, this may have been closer the truth a while back, but now we DO have hard news, concert information etc. And we have consistently had one of the largest and most comprehensive multimedia suites for Meat Loaf on the web.

If anybody thinks I am an unsuitable choice to spearhead this initiative, that is their perogative and they do not have to take part, however I'd just say that my persistence, and my strenuous promoting of Meat's new album and single might just be what made Mercury approach me, and in my view this is about Meat and his fans .. or am I wrong?

Finally there have apparently also been concerns raised because the forms are going to ROL. At the moment we do not have a working email link to Mercury, and I have today sent the first 120 responses to Clive Cawley, their Product Manager. We hope to get the email link working on Monday, although the forms will continue to be copied to ROL. If anybody doubts my integrity I will forward their name to Mike and ask him to confirm receipt of their form.

CarylB 07 Jun 2003 16:43

Sorry .. re the above .. I will send their names to Clive
