The Dream Engine

Just wandering if I've missed something somewhere along the line...is the Dream Engine album still happening? According to Wikipedia, Steve Rinkoff said that it was to come out that year.

In 2006. Four years ago.

Has this project been abandoned, or is it just taking forever to produce  ? The band's MySpace page was last updated at around the same time with great demos of new takes on We're Still The Children, Safe Sex and Nowhere Fast...then nothing, as far as I can tell. Hoping someone a bit more knowledgeable can fill me in :D

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum, not exactly Meat Loaf so I placed it here =D

Abandoned. Due I believe to lack of funding plus Jim keeping his new songs for the Bat musical.

AndrewG 15 Jun 2010 15:11

Thought Dream Engine was more like 2004/2005 with those Joe Pub gigs. Wasn't the Bat musical announced around when Bat 3 came out? I noticed Jim's wiki page hasn't been updated since 2008. Sad. :-(

LMAO :lmao: No matter how many times I hear Jim and Bat musical in the same sentence, it still makes me laugh.

I don't think there was a lack of funding for TDE, I think Jim was wanting a big pay deal for something that wasn't established and gave up. In theory there's no reason why TDE as a touring group with guest artists couldn't work.

jim has new songs???

Evil One 16 Jun 2010 00:14

Newish

What Part Of My Body Hurts The Most
Not Allowed To Love
We're Still The Children
Catwoman's Song
Wonderful Toys
Graveyard Shift

Lots of recycling and lots of musicalness so only the first three would be worth a squirt really.

duke knooby 16 Jun 2010 00:16

as in less than a decade old? or not previously released?

define new

Not as old as dinosaurs ;)

Evil One 16 Jun 2010 00:31

As in recycled from the Batman musical that never happened. I have no idea when they were originally written.

duke knooby 16 Jun 2010 00:33

when was the batman musical expected for release?

Pudding 16 Jun 2010 00:35

Early 2000's

Evil One 16 Jun 2010 00:36

2002 or thereabouts, although the songs may have been written years earlier for all I know. Some of the demos are here: http://www.jimsteinman.com/dreampol.htm

duke knooby 16 Jun 2010 00:38

so we'll ignore the new thing, and go for unreleased then

Pudding 16 Jun 2010 00:41

2006...I've joined this forum shortly after seeing the gig...I wanted to see what ML fans think of the "Bat out of Hell: The Next Generation".

I was surprised that Steinman was going to make a candy out of that motley crew...

The only remarkable thing about that concert was that me and Mr. Daveake were in the same room together at some point in our lives and didn't know each other...star crossed fans...lol

mszee 16 Jun 2010 03:05

Pud, I am watching that clip and literally crying...ok...I got a batman, cat woman and Robin...who is the random lady that keeps on appearing?

I find it, however, disturbing...Batman doesn't appear to have a penis...while Cat Girl does???

She looks like the cleaner?

Lol that clip is crazy. :D
I like how Batman has to switch off the music himself.

GDW 16 Jun 2010 12:42

I think Catwoman stole Batman's Bat Pouch.

 Is this the Michael Crawford production?

Evil One 16 Jun 2010 17:12

The one with the Mad Hatter dressed up as a giant sponge penis?

 Depends.
Is it the same one where The Joker tries to kill Batman with a solar power laser gun at the stroke of midnight?

Pudding 17 Jun 2010 00:03

Steinman was advised early in the writing of the Batman musical to 'Keep It Gay'
