To Hell & Back: The Movie

Just in case there's anyone who hasn't seen this festering turd of a movie, here it is in handy bite sized chunks:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VtcodrOpxu4

Since it isn't commercially available anywhere, I'm posting the link sans guilt :-P

Shame this didn't turn out better, because the book is brilliantly written! I think a lot of my problem with this movie is the representation of Meat by an actor who I can only assume has never even seen Meat Loaf in his life before :S

Um, enjoy?

Doode.

Woa. 7 mins into teh second part you can see the twin towers. wonder if thats why it never got released on DVD?

PanicLord 15 May 2010 15:44

Lol - that's the campest Meat Load impersonator I ever saw! PANTS!

Cherry.Loaf 15 May 2010 15:59

Ohhh thanks I'll look forward to watching that

Wario 15 May 2010 16:16

TheDoode 15 May 2010 16:25

well from what I've seen, its not that bad.

What I didnt like:

They completely ignored the whole Stoney and Meatloaf period andt he rocky horror scene was badly edited.

Pretty much pretended DR, MATLAF, BA, and BBIS didnt exist.

He sang Peel out during the BFG sessions. WTF.

He lip synched. He is a good singer, let the actor sing!

no performance of 2 outta 3 or All revved up :|

he did JOHNNY B. GOODE after FCOL at the CBS convention, no need to hear BOOH again.

What I liked:

Its really entertaining and fun to watch so far.

Love how they got him back with his dad, that part wast in the book but did happen. Meat confirmed it in an interview and said they went to disney world.

Love the childhood sequence. very accurate.

The way they edited the Took the words scene was brilliant by extending the song two-fold in the middle.

Amanda Aday as the food store cashier

According to some rumors, Jack Black was originally intended to take the part. Unfortunately that was around the time Tenacious D got popular, so he turned down the role.

Interesting bit of trivia: The guy who played Meat Loaf (W. Earl Brown) was the cameraman from Scream.

Jack Black would have been awesome. Trivia piece explains the acting then  I must admit I really like Screams 1 and 2, but the acting is more OTT than method ;)

It was good when I first saw it when I was about...8....looking back now, its just a little silly, but still a good job for a VH1 production.

Sarge 15 May 2010 20:27

It works fine as a drama but it fails as a biopic.

Blackkat13 16 May 2010 04:14

Heck! I liked W. Earl Brown in Deadwood, I miss that show. :(

Elijah's way 18 May 2010 11:27

he can not sing he sounds like sh-t imo. and a very bad actor

RadioMaster 18 May 2010 11:38

well, you cant really expect a lot from a tv production...

allrevvedup 18 May 2010 12:15

The def leppard movie VH1 made was not any better...especially the accents, they were terrible

Unless you're Sean Bean a Sheffield accent is tricky to replicate ... I was born there and I can't do one :))

Evil One 18 May 2010 12:39

Why would you want to?

allrevvedup 18 May 2010 12:42

i can do a reasonable yorkshire accent, but that's only because of hanging around with so many friends from sheffield while in University

but anyway back to the topic...

I thought the majority of the film was made up especially the part with seeing his father again but I think he mentioned in an interview recently that had happened.
