Popstar To Operastar

It appears Meat will be judging in a new celebrity singing competition, hosted by er...Myleene Klass and Alan Titchmarsh.

Well here's the link:

I'll reserve opinion. Who knows, it could be fun.

I wonder how much weight Laurence's opinion is actually going to carry here?

"Ok, we've heard from one of the most successful rock artists of all time...Now let's see what the decorator thought." ;)

, but actually I don't see a problem - he does at least have his own show on Classic FM, and Meat isn't an opera singer anyway.

They seem well matched to me ... :lmao:

Sounds cool I'm gonna Sky+ it. I hope Meat sings a new single at some point in the show.

Bound to I would think, if it is part of a deal with Universal. Maybe he could sing the theme tune???

I think this is going to be awesome exposure for Meat to a whole legion of people who maybe never heard of him or his music before, as well as any existing fans who are watching and not realising he is still around, AND a phenomenal platform for publicity for the new album! Sounds like a very promising start to the launch plans for the new album to me!

Also, I wonder if Meat is going to sing anything opera-stylee?

melon 03 Jan 2010 14:17

Now that would be cool

MissAsh 03 Jan 2010 14:21

Well that sounds... er... different... Shall reserve judgement/opinion until I actually see it!

duke knooby 03 Jan 2010 17:02

Myleene's Class :-P

The Flying Mouse 03 Jan 2010 20:22

 So it'll sort of be like Pavarotti & friends , only without the Pavarotti? :p

Hope Meat does at least one guest song at some point.

Should be good for a watch

K1ttycat 03 Jan 2010 20:41

Was just looking on itv's website to see if there was any ticket info but of course nothing....though there is a small article about the show. Would probably be done in London anyhow...grrr...:(

AndyK 03 Jan 2010 21:17

I know the show is being produced by Anglia which is Norwich area but then that means little when it comes to where it's recorded.

AndyK 04 Jan 2010 10:58

Some news about the forthcoming show here

For some reason I assumed this would be a BBC thing until you posted this link... ITV eh...?

Still, I'll be interested to hear what Marcella Detroit can belt out, and Blur 'singer' Alex James.

Good luck Meat! ;)

Dave 04 Jan 2010 20:53

Marcella Detroit is amazing!!!

Cult Of Byron 04 Jan 2010 21:03

I still have "I Believe" rattling the bell-towers of my mp3 player :D what a song!

CarylB 04 Jan 2010 23:44

Saw the first advert for the show last night on ITV, although they just referred to the contestants' names and not those of the judges

popstar to operastar starts friday january 15th from 21.00 to 22.30 itv/utv
its expected to run for 7 weeks!! from the itv website there are now links to facebook and twitter for it!! and on such popular websites like havenmusic forum and buzzjacks forums they are already talking about the show [ meat getting alot of mentions ] also lots of talk on digitalspy.com!!
viewing figures expected to be 5-6 million, thats great!! i would say more like 7m or so? so its gonna be great exposure whatever way you look at it!
i would also say meat will perform the new single on the final night?
