time for a change

someone will probley want to burn me alive for saying this lol but i was discussing with RSG last night about what Bon Jovi songs would you like to hear Meat Loaf sing, and for me ive got two, Living on a Prayer and Always. my reson being that they are both emotional and some what romantic and i would enjoy hearing the passion and sound that Meat Loaf would have to offer as a cover of these two very well done songs.

I wouldn't like him to do either of those songs. They will always be associated with Bon Jovi and Meat's versions will inevitably be compared to them. It will be the IACBTMN problem all over again.

I tend to agree. With so many good song writers out there and new stuff coming out all the time, I don't see a reason for Meat to do any covers, certainly not of that popularity.

I think covers can be done on a modest basis. For example I thought Tom Jones did an awesome version of Bruce Springsteen's "The Hitter", but then not many people will know the original and Jones' version was radically different too, so that then works imo as there is just not something crazy to live up to like "Born to Run", "Born in the USA" or "Thunder Road" for that matter.

Alive sounds like a kinda of Bon Jovi song to me, but I am glad Meat recorded it (first).

if he really does a cover of a BJ (never noticed Mr Bongiovi had such a delicate acronym) song, I'd like to see him do 'Everyday'. It's got rough yet emotional quality, and though it was a single it's not one of Bon Jovi's top hits like It's my life or Livin on a prayer.

As for covers: If you look at Meat's back catalogue, he's always liked to to covers of lesser known songs: Martha, Promised Land, No Matter What, Is nothing sacred and so on. Nothing wrong with that, as long as the original isnt so big that it will overshadow the cover in any case. (--> IACBTMN)

Meat's No Matter What was definitely overshadowed by Boyzone.

That is because Meat has a large amount of real talent and he put emotion into it rather than making just another song
