CHSIB rethink

Who besides me think that Unsaid and Decadent Wish should have been on the album instead of mercury blues and do it?

Sorry if this has been done before.

samurai7 13 Jul 2009 17:37

I like Mercury Blues, but could live without You're Right I Was Wrong and Why Isnt That Enough, as well as Do It.

Evil One 13 Jul 2009 18:04

I don't see why all four songs couldn't have been on the album. There was enough room.

RadioMaster 13 Jul 2009 21:48

well, technically mercury blues wasnt really a part of the album...more something like a b side.

But I agree though, Unsaid and Decadent Wish are definitely better than half of the album. Unsaid would have been a good replacement for Why isnt that enough. Do it is more of a gap filler to me, like fiesta de las whatsitcalled, so I dont think it would have worked to switch it with DW.

Evil One 13 Jul 2009 21:58

Mercury Blues is better than half the album too.

allrevvedup 13 Jul 2009 22:01

I really can't understand why Decadent wish was left off, it's a great song. Unsaid would have worked better then You're Right I was wrong. Although the delayed chorus on Unsaid, always bothered me.

bobbin 13 Jul 2009 22:08

decadent wish always reminds of elvis's 'little less conversation' for some reason, but i love unsaid and definately think it should hav been on the album, but hey, it wasnt and i've still got it to listen to so no major problem there i can see. If it never saw the light of day then i might be disgruntled but then again probably not because i won't have heard it to know if i liked it or not :?

Well technically it is as it's on my CD album and I'm guessing it's on yours too.

RadioMaster 13 Jul 2009 22:45

oh ffs you know what i meant lol

Sarge 13 Jul 2009 22:53

Mercury Blues is okay but it reminds me too much of David Lindley's version. Didn't like Do It at first but it has grown on me over the years. Maybe because it is one of the few rock songs on that album. CHSIB contains too many tearjerkers for my liking. I can't stand You're Right I Was Wrong, Why Isn't That Enough, Because Of You... Leave such songs to Celine Dion or Michael Bolton. ;) I also don't like Meat's rendition of Forever Young but I don't like the original, too. I heard Joan Baez' version - that one was amazing!

I prefer Decadent Wish and Unsaid to some tracks on the album but I think I wouldn't be interested in these songs if they were performed by another artist. They are not bad but they are not really great either, in my opinion. Unfortunately, the album as a whole is not my cup of tea, it doesn't even sound like a Meat Loaf album to me :( (I'm not saying that it's bad).

I never listen to the entire album, just to a few songs, predominantly Couldn't Have Said It Better, Love You Out Loud and Testify.

Evil One 13 Jul 2009 22:55

That's pretty much what I think. Half a decent album, stretched to fill a whole CD.

Wario 13 Jul 2009 23:28

Man, imagine if the monster's loose came out in 2003 with all the songs everyone doesnt seem to skip. well i actually made a custom compilation album like two years ago. This would've worked out so much better then CHSIB and TML were combined as separate releases:

http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r.../lastfotee.jpg
  1. Couldn't Have Said It Better
  2. Alive
  3. Bad For Good
  4. Testify
  5. Decedent Wish
  6. Seize The Night
  7. In The Land of the Pig
  8. If It Aint Broke
  9. Did I Say That?
  10. Tear Me Down
  11. Unsaid
  12. What About Love?

tonyloaf 13 Jul 2009 23:35

unsaid is a great tune, thanks to anji and mike i never knew it was there

allrevvedup 14 Jul 2009 00:00

rj might take credit for that in someways as well...but i'll take praise where i can get it!

RadioMaster 14 Jul 2009 08:47

:))

nikox1 16 Jul 2009 22:31

if the album had been better promoted? who knows?
the song chsib was the right choice for first single [ only then for the usual scenario with the record company ] it would have been top 10 easy
then 3 months later should come the second single [ no, lets wait 7 months for a new single ] you gotta love record companys:D

Pudding 16 Jul 2009 23:05

One of my favourite idioms is "You can polish a turd all you want, but it's still a turd" I'm not saying CHSIB is a turd, far from it, but if the songs aren't up to scratch, then no matter how much promoting you do, people just ain't gonna buy the album.

Sarge 17 Jul 2009 00:12

One of our major TV stations did a lot of promo for the album, they also used Did I Say That to advertise the prime-time TV series Napoleon, so you could hear it on TV almost every day. Meat Loaf's TV appearances gained a lot of attention (it obviously was a good idea to kiss Thomas Gottschalk, LOL), yet the album was about as "successful" ;) as the records he released in the 1980s. Must be due to its content. I remember that I enjoyed his funny TV appearances, but I was not keen on listening to that album then - although I'm a fan, go figure. I bought the CD three or four years after its release.

nikox1 17 Jul 2009 00:50

i know what your saying [ but even shit can sell ] i think the first single is vital [ look at u2 ] to get the album going, not that there new album has sold poorly [ but by there standards ] it has, the second single made no.42
but i think meat has a hard job in deciding what to go for? chsib was bordering on being a pop album [ most of it i liked ] then bat 3 went down the rock route? so finding the balance can be hard

Is that a euphemism for something rude ;)

good point! it sounds a bit dodgy:D

Steve6 24 Jul 2009 21:11

The two covers on CHSIB "Mercury Blues" and "Forever Young" are brilliant. They are the two songs I listen to anytime I play the record. His version of "Forever Young" is in my opinion better than Bob Dylan's. One track that didn't feel at home on the record was "Do It" and should have been scrapped.

allrevvedup 24 Jul 2009 21:17

i think the only real difference between Dylan's and Meat's version was the Dylan's was not as dramatic, a bit more simple which is largely what Dylan does so well anyway.

Meat went at it to make a bigger sound and larger presence and i thought he did a good job.

I think Do It is alright, it's not meant to be something that's taken too seriously and maybe if you were playing the cd all the way through in the car, it would make you take notice of it...you're right i was wrong now, that's something i think could have been left out

"You're right I was wrong" is a nice ballad but not one I play much. When I got the album back 6 years ago I thought the best song on the album was "Love you out Loud". I played it non stop and I think it's one of the most underrated songs on the album. I would have put it out as a single ahead of "CHSIB" and "Man of Steel"

allrevvedup 24 Jul 2009 21:50

yeah love you out loud is very good and should've been considered as a single,

chsib was always going to be a single but i thought did i say that was better and should have been an internationally released single and not just in germany
