Rock and Roll Dreams do come through
Everyone of us has a dream, and sometimes it takes almost a lifetime to fulfil.
Mine was to be serenaded by Meat Loaf up close and personal. My dream came true with an invitation to appear on the Graham Norton show with guest star Meat Loaf on Monday 12th May 2003 for recording to be shown on Friday 16th May on Channel 4. Roy - hubby, Ellis - son, and myself were to be the subject of an hilarious set up concerning the conception of Ellis to 2 out of 3 ain't bad. After a week of subterfuge and secret telephone calls the stage was set, at 4.00pm Monday aftenoon, Roy and I were taken to the London Studios in a silver mercedes, in which we watched Passenger 57 through the screens set into the headrests in front of us. 8) We were met by Emma at the front of the studios and taken to our suite whereby we were offered food, drinks, in fact anything we required. Darren joined us later for a quick chat and then we knew the stage was well and truly set for the most momentous time of our lives. Sometime later we were taken to the dressing room, to change into our pyjam's, we both felt very relaxed all through this - No 1st Night Nerves for us  We were then taken backstage to watch the monitor where we could see Meat Loaf and Graham Norton involved in hilarious banter with Meat Loaf stealing the show as usual. After a while we were led to our bed, this was to be our piece de resistance, describing the bed (well Del Boy springs to mind), Leopard Skin headboard and Blood Red Silk Sheets :!: - Luverly Jubberly  Roy and I were slipping all over the bed with these sheets, it was hilarious - I think we just hoped and prayed that we wouldn't actually slip off the bed at the wrong time  We took our positions on the bed and listened intently to the shennigans Meat Loaf and Graham Norton were creating on the other side of the curtains, with our son Ellis and his mates. (Once I have seen the video I will be able to be more comprehensive with the following )as we were still behind the curtains. But from what we could hear it went something like this:- Graham Norton to Ellis "I believe you shag to 2 out of 3 ain't bad Ellis". Ellis replies"No, that's my parents as it happens, I was conceived to it" Graham Norton looked shocked "Oh really" Graham Norton "I think we should telephone your parents Ellis, and see what they have to say for themselves" Ellis dials home phone no. - phone rings twice then a click - my signal to pick up the phone from the bed. Graham asks me some questions and then finally says "Are you lying down Dot?" I replied as sexily as only a 53 year old woman can "Not yet, but I will soon be", the audience erupted into laughter then as the curtains were pulled back to expose Roy and myself snogging and caressing each other. Ellis was absolutely mortified, he turned away for a few seconds, he couldn't believe it was us (as parents of a certain age don't do that, or so he thinks  )Let alone in front of a studio audience and potentially a largeraudience in the outside world. After the laughter had died down from the audience, Meat Loaf walked over to our bed and laid down beside me, held my hand and sang 2 out of 3 ain't bad, up close and personal, at that moment time stood still and the situation became surreal. I knew then that life would never be the same again :D Then unexpectedly Meat Loaf screamed at Roy "Get out of the bed", I think judging by the expression on Roys face, he was petrified of Meat. Roy replied "But I haven't got any strides on, but I've still got my socks on"(you know what they say about men who keep their socks on in bed) Once filming had ceased Meat Loaf and Graham Norton both shook our hands and thanked us for taking part and being such good sports. http://pic8.picturetrail.com:80/VOL2...2/25392493.jpg Shortly after Emma collected us from the stage, and took us back to the suite to dress normally. Suddenly a big flurry Emma grabs us and says quick photo's Meat Loaf. We had a couple taken by Emma who also had managed to get one of us on the bed on stage. http://pic8.picturetrail.com:80/VOL2...2/25392485.jpg I chatted to Anne for a short while and looked for The Flying Mouse but couldn't see him anywhere (I think he was hiding from me) We left the studios eventually at around 10.15pm and were taken home by people carrier. We laughed like crazy and giggled all the way home. I'm sure the driver thought we had had one too many :!: By the time you have read this brief account of our magical time, I hope you will be able to feel some of the excitement, fun, and magic, plus embarresement on Ellis behalf that he felt that night. Once I have the video to study for Ellis part and to see his face in all its  I will be able to put down a more comprehensive review which will hopefully appear in the next issue of Rear View Mirror with photographs - which two of these will be posted on here very shortly. "The beat is yours forever The beat is always true And when you really needed it the most That's when Rock and Roll Dreams come Through" dottie xxxxx |

Oh, Dottie!!!!!!! What an amazing story!!!!!
I LOVED every word of it! I just wish I could see it on Friday with everyone else!!! Tim! Now stop teasing about the length of her post. THIS is one story which HAD to be told slowly. It had to unfold, to take us along with her. I have to tell you Dottie, I felt my cheeks turning hot as I read it and toward the end, felt the tears welling in my eyes! But mostly, as I continued to read what happened to you, I got the BIGGEST smile on my face that just won't go away!!!! I think I'm going to have it now every time I think of you!!! Thank you SO much for sharing it with all of us! Tell your son not to be too upset. I know it's hard at that age. But it's a sad reality that, in this world, dreams and wishes don't come true often enough. How incredible to hear of one time when they really did!!!! Thanks, Dottie!! Love, MB xxx |
