RVP!!! Different Rules?

Right sorry but I'm watching this years Royal Variety Performance and I see that there are a few bands, "Cliff and the Shadows" being one of em (in my opinion, who I dislike... canny stand Cliff personally) but they were playing LIVE, with a LIVE BAND!!!!

My rant is why the hell could Meat not take the band on with him back in 2006 at the RVP? and yet these folk can???!!! I heard they wouldn't let him and thats why he mimed "Blind As A Bat" and then got the inhouse band to perform "Dead Ringer".

It just seems to me that they have rules for different people. They even had a live band performing I think at the end of the show in 2006....

Right rant over... Is it me or has other people noticed this????!

(Just a at the point in time minute thought )

Cliff is a living legend and one of the Queen's favourite artists and a genuine 'Sir' not a pretend figment in some Loafers imagination

Its just my opinion as I stated. I for one aren't a fan but besides Cliff, Brian May (whos great btw, again my opinion) played live...

I just thought it was a shame that Meat got told he couldn't have the band with him yet others get the go ahead...

Isn't Meat one of Prince Charles' favourite artists?

samurai7 18 Dec 2008 03:25

the inhouse band didn't play DRFL, Meat's band did. Kas, John etc were there. I think the reason they mimed BAAB was because at that time it was supposed to be the next single, and they wanted it to sound as good as possible, without the fear of muck-ups (especdially lyrical ;))and DRFL is one they know backwards, so they could set up quickly and just bash it out. I just know I'm gonna get flamed for this...

Sean thats different from I heard but interesting... I heard that they didn't do Blind As A Bat Live becuase the inhouse band couldn't play it like Meat wanted it to be played and it was too late at that time to get a backing track made of the arrangement. Hence he had to mime it but towards the end, they switched on the mic as you could hear Meat's live vocals ready for Dead Ringer, which was played by them...

In my opinion, I think there are different stories. As I also heard, not sure if this is true again, but Kasim got called over from to help Meat out with the arrangement for Dead Ringer For Love at rehearsals...
http://kasimsulton.blogspot.com/2006_12_01_archive.html (He mentions here he did not exactly perform but was on stage at the gamble machine)

Thats how I understood it anyway and that the band weren't there at all.

The Loaf is known for telling stories that are not entirely true.

The backing track thing is nonsense, if they really needed one they could have just taken the arrangement from the album.

AndyK 18 Dec 2008 21:06

As far as I remember only Kasim was there ... the rest fo the band weren't.

I'm sure part of the reason that the whole band weren't on stage was simply down to the cost of flying them there from the states.

Because in order for them to even lay a finger on my La Cage Aux Folles soundtrack they'd have a massive fight on their hands, I don't part with my CD's lightly  !
