X-Factor & Rhydian

Did anyone see Rhydian's attempt at AFL on the X-Factor tonight.

I'm with Sharon on this one. I don't like the guy personally, arrogance is not appealing. Don't get me wrong, he has a great voice. I guess I am just biased. No-one can do Meat Loaf but Meat Loaf!!!

meatloaf-unofficial 20 Oct 2007 21:33

true.. I think he's good as in singing and clearly knows what he wants to achieve in the sense he comes over to be like a pro.

It was good to see him do a meat Loaf song. It shows he likes to take chances and challenge himself at singing a very emotional yet hard song to perform.

Hope this makes sence, it does to me...lol...

I would like him to do maybe something from phantom, I think he has the voice, alot of depth and would be bale to sustain something like that.

Yes I seen it and he changed the words....i will....instead of..... I would... He tried but nobody has a voice like meatloaf.
Roll on Wembley and BELFAST..

AndrewG 21 Oct 2007 00:34

Yes but no one has a voice like Rhydian either. Why bring up the subject if you are going to make biased statements like "no-one does Meat Loaf like Meat Loaf"?! Rhydian or no other on the show said that he was trying to sound like Meat Loaf at all. If Meat can sing cover songs why can't anybody else?

I thought it was one of the best attempts at a Meat Loaf song I've seen on the X factor period and the set and backing music were quite respectfully done I think and I also agree with Simon Cowell that it was easily the best performance of the show. BTW if you want arrogance I think Simon has it a lot more than Rhydian. I definitly think Rhydian will do "Phantom of the Opera" in the next few shows, possibly next week as it's movie songs they're doing.

But why on earth did he change the words? It makes no sense whatsoever. Why did he choose to sing "will" instead of "would"? Totally bizarre :?

I think that makes perfect sense if you consider he's probably not a Meat Loaf/Jim Steinman fanatic and either him or someone from the show got the words wrong when editing it down. I don't think it's hard getting words wrong if you don't use a karaoke machine. And probably once they are on a paper and practicing the song 50 times or so it would always be wrong I guess.
I actualy didn't notice this word mess up at all, well done for spotting that though.

BTW thought Sharon acted very childish on this show. She comes across as a spoilt brat imo. She's getting paid (quite well) to sit there and judge some stuff for a couple of hours a week and we have to sympathise with all this over dramatized stuff?! I thought she would be a bit more mature about the situation if you think about all the nasty stuff she's been through in her life. That is what makes no sense whatsoever to me. Will she really leave? Surely that is breach of the contract.

Totally agree. And perhaps not sounding like Meat Loaf is a good thing in the long run for this Rhydian's career, if he has one in the music business that is.

Pud

I agree, she comes across very arrogant herself, and very stuck up, IMHO. :D

djfierce 21 Oct 2007 11:42

ok it wasn't to my liking but to be fair he didnt sing it out of tune or anything, i just didnt like that version.

Sharon is becoming very childish...but with another female on the board i guess she has to do something to keep all the attention

meatloaf-unofficial 21 Oct 2007 12:03

It is like the Judges said " You either like him or hate him" and I think he will do very well, he knows how to give a performance in that what; 3-5 mins they have....

All about catching the voter's eyes...

I find it hard to believe that a programme like the X factor would make such a basic mistake and get the lyrics wrong of a very well known song. They will have all the music, lyrics etc at their disposal. Even if one peron did make a mistake surely one of the vast array of advisers, production team etc would have noticed? On saying that I can't think of a logical explanation for changing "I would do anything" to "I will do anything" :?

Renegade Angel 21 Oct 2007 13:47

Meat Loaf often gets the words wrong to his own songs!

AndyK 21 Oct 2007 14:08

It may well have been a deliberate change to the lyrics for the purposes of the show. We'll never really know.

Whilst any "cover" of a Meat Loaf song isn't going to sound 100% right to me, (and I'd imagine to everyone else registered here) it was really the perfect choice of song for Rhydian last night, suiting his voice perfectly. It'll be interesting to hear what other songs they give him over the coming weeks, hopefully they'll steer clear of some of the other more obvious choices and take a few more risks to brighten an otherwise dull show up. None of the finalists have that mythical X Factor IMO, and whilst he may come across as an arrogant bloke, like him or loathe him Rhydian is the only contestant with something that makes him stand out from everyone else.

djfierce 21 Oct 2007 19:04

yep, true! I don't think i can say that i actually 'liked' any of them, it could have been his choice to change that word, maybe he felt more compfortable with it, people change the lyrics to cover songs all the time to suit their 'way' of singing it. Just changing that one word makes the whole lyric sound totally different imo so he may have felt that it sounded better that way given his voice and the delivery of it. But as Andy says we will never know the truth now ;)

Unless we e-mail the X-Factor and ask them  I've done this - might not get a reply of course.

SamCat 21 Oct 2007 20:12

He's on again now ITV2!!

SamCat 21 Oct 2007 20:15

Oh dear that was my first time!! I'm sorry that was awful!!

DIZZY DRUMMER 21 Oct 2007 21:20

He can sing - no disputing that - But at Meat song - NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Sorry I hated it. All I can see him doing is opera with whatever song he does. Give him a sissor sister song & see what he makes of that !!

i really don't see it as that much of an issue, even for a Meat fan, can anyone say for sure that they have never got the lyrics wrong for other songs before, just cos it's a Meat song we noticed it but in the whole scheme of things it's not really important.

Its all that enunciating i cant be doing with!! Its fine for Liza Minnelli but it just sounded wrong!!

christa 22 Oct 2007 00:40

Well I thought it was awful!

I thought he murdered a classic

Everyone to their own, some liked it, some didn't

You talking about Meat Loaf at the Dortmund gig, because I heard that wasn't too flash.

I really don't think changing Will for Would is going to make or break this guys career. It makes me laugh though how some people say (this isn't directed at Christa btw but generally) that you have to look at Meats performance as a whole to fully appreciate it, yet some amature nobody gets one word wrong to a song and he's getting a public flogging....WTF? :wtf:

Pud

batcity 22 Oct 2007 09:17

erm.. weird, weird person... I thought it was bloody awful!!!

djfierce 22 Oct 2007 09:19

oh dear.... i seem to agree with pud on this :?

ok to put this in real context... nobodoy said G4 were weird or awful when they did rock/pop songs in this style

I think just cos it was a Mest song is blowing it all out of proportion a bit, if it was any other song i doubt ir would have been mentioned, if anyone thinks different then please show me the old G4 murdered loads of great classics thread as i dont think it exists.

I didnt like it but it just wasnt for me, he didnt sing it bad or murder it, it just sounds odd to avid fans of the song who are used to hearing it a certain way.

There were plenty of other performances that night that weren't even in tune let alone a good performance at all.... those songs were TRULY murdered, give the guy a break, he sang it fine and in tune, so it didnt work as a performance, at least he tried something original.
