Pavarotti Dies.
How sad.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/6981032.stm My thoughts go out to all those that loved him. |
How so very sad...
I had a privilege to see him live in La Traviata at the Met...he blew everybody else off the stage... Rest in Peace, Luciano...you've made a lot of people happy... |
How sad, I saw a news flash last night that he'd taken ill but that was all that was known.
Definitely a loss to the music world |
I'm not a big opera fan, but it's always sad to see someone as loved and idolized by so many people die.
You could see it coming though, he's been 71 and also had cancer, with his lifestyle this was only a question of time. |

Absolutely...I'm sure that even if you're not an opera fan you can understand and appreciate what Pavarotti did for music and the awareness he brough to opera specifically

My memories of Mr. Pavarotti and his performances are flowing out right now. I had the unexpected honor of meeting him many years ago in the Green Room at the Metropolitan Opera here in NY. He was very charming, friendly like a puppy, full of humor, and obviously and teasingly flirtatious. I saw a number of his performances through the years, and that voice was and is unforgettable. We are indeed fortunate that he lived in a time where there are plenty of recordings and videos of his performances.
He really opened up the opera world to a wider audience, and the rest of the world to opera, with the Three Tenors; and I'm now reading his firm rejection of the critics' remarks about their success. He was no snob when it came to music, and anything else for that matter. His death is so early; he still had his voice; and he was very much into his vocal coaching, which brought him back to his original career from his youth, before music became full-time. My deepest sympathies to his family and friends and students. RIP |
