Mike Piercy
It is with much sadness that the MLUKFC has learnt of the sudden and unexpected death of Mike Piercy.
Many of you will have seen Mike posting on these forums. He was a UK Fan Club member right from the inauguration of the club and was also, until quite recently, a member of the MLUKFC management team, acting as treasurer for the subscription side of the club from July 2003 until late last year. Much work goes on behind the scenes and Mike more than ably filled his post, voluntarily and unselfishly giving up very many hours of his time looking after the finances and administration of the club for the benefit of the management team and members. Mike was a long-time Meat Loaf fan who first saw him live in concert on the 24th April, 1982 at the NEC in Birmingham and then continued to see him numerous times on every one of his major UK tours. He was a regular contributor to the RVM and one of my favourite contributions was reading his memories of his first live Meat Loaf experience when he wrote a wonderful review of that concert, published in issue #48. Mike once wrote that he and his wife Maureen had been lucky enough to be at the filming of the Bad Attitude Video which was first shown on the BBC’s “Old Grey Whistle Test”. He quipped, ““Old Grey Whistle Test” now aptly named in my case! Well old and grey, if not whistling.” This was typical of his humour. He may not be whistling anymore but he certainly left his mark in the Meat Loaf community. Besides his love of Meat Loaf, (with a particular soft spot for Patti!), Mike was a music fan through and through and attended many concerts seeing a broad spectrum of artists …. rock, pop, blues and soul. I have many happy memories of telephone conversations where we talked in length about the bands and bluesmen he had been to see. I, along with others, have been guests in Mike and Maureen’s beautiful home and have very much enjoyed and appreciated their warm hospitality. Our condolences go to Maureen at this very sad time. |
Beautifully put, Diane.
I and many others were stunned this morning to hear of his sudden death, and his parting will certainly leave a void in the Meat Loaf fan community. Despite passing each other on numerous occasions, Mike, Maureen and I were finally introduced in May this year at the MEN at which he truly appeared happy and healthy and looking forward to another great Meat show, and although this meeting was brief it was great to finally put faces to two very well known names here at MLUKFC. For me, and for so many others, Mike has been a constant in my MLUKFC life...from joining the fanclub back in June 1998 until now I have never experienced an album release, a tour or an issue of RVM without reading a review, an opinion (and usually a strong one at that!!) or a story of one of many of his wonderful Meaty experiences. Last year, after an ongoing exchange with Mike via PM, he sent me one of our MLUKFC badges and a small note telling me to "Wear it with pride!". His dedication to the fanclub and to RVM was and will be truly valued for a long time to come, and I hope that wearing that badge with pride will be a reminder of his hard work and his memory. |
This is such sad news. My thoughts and condolences go to Maureen.
Mike was one of those constant faces in the Meat Loaf Fan Club for many many years, a man who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure everything ran smoothly and would continue to do so for many years. When he stepped back from the fan club management last year he left it in a solid and stable state allowing this website and the forum we all love to continue for a long time to come. I've been one of those who has been welcomed into Mike's home on a number of occasions and a Meat Loaf concert in the northern half of England never seemed complete without bumping into Mike and Maureen at some point. Rest in Peace Mike, but don't stop rocking! |
Oh my god...so sorry to hear this...

Im very sad to hear this news, my thoughts are with Maureen.
I had a few chats on the phone with Mike when I helped with the welcome packs. He was great to chat with and we shared a few laughs. But sadly I never met him. Keep rockin' Mike we will miss you! Rest in peace. Love Feleena x |
Well, what can I say ... :(
I remember our initial meeting in Manchester where we discussed which route we should take with the fanclub and it was Mike who showed us the right direction. Without Mike's help, this website probably wouldn't be online anymore. I could continue talking about him, only repeating what already has been said, so I just say: "Thank you very very much, Mike". Rest in Peace Mike, but don't stop rocking! |
Rest in peace Mike

I'm sat here, with no words to say how I feel. It's hard to think that such an important person so close to this place has gone. One of the pictures on my bedroom wall has him in it....a sort of proud moment for me I guess as it was my first group picture of my first gig meet up. He was such a lovely man. So full of spirit and passion. It seems so strange that the person smiling in the picture has now gone...and so suddenly too.
My heart goes out to Maureen and those that loved and knew him well; especially Diane. My memory has always put you two together as the supermods! You were like partners in crime, to me. :( God bless you Mike; which ever cloud you're up rocking on. x |
Wow !

Mike was always willing to help with anything Meat Loaf related, and gave us Aussie fans so much of his time last year.
