Meat Loaf covers?
I was just wondering which songs of Meat Loaf's have been covered by other artists. I know of two......... Barry Manilow- Read 'em and weep and Bonnie Tyler- Two out of three ain't bad.
Thanks |
Uhh the entire Tribute to Meat Loaf album and a band did Nowhere Fast , forget their name :(
|
The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band did a cover of Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad. Still haven't managed to track this down myself yet though.
Sarah Geronimo did a cover of I'd Do Anything For Love (But I Wont Do That) Karla DeVito did an amazing version of Heaven Can Wait. Russel Watson did Is Nothing Sacred? There's more, but my brain hurts to think. |

I've heard Caswell last March singing IACBTMN...she is still incredible... |
Yes she is. The Pandora's Box version is still the best version out there, in my opinion. There are two (count 'em) fantastic gutar solos, and the best background vocals I've ever heard. I really wish MEat had done something similar with his version, but hey-ho - that's a conversation that's already been worn out.
Anyway, my head hurts, so I'm off to bed (after all, it's 3:20 am here! ) |

I love when he did it:cool: ! |

Good night... |
Meat does a lot of cover himself, let alone covers of his songs.
Lets see, he did:
|
You're missing a few covers Meat did:
45. Left in the Dark 46. Martha (Tom Waits) 47. Tear Me Down (Hedwig & The Angry Inch soundtrack) 48. Do It! (Billy Rankin) 49. If It Ain't Broke, Break It (MTV's Wuthering Heights soundtrack) 50. Seize The Night 51. The Future Ain't What It Used To Be 52. Home By Now / No Matter What (Whistle Down The Wind, Boyzone) 53. A Kiss Is A Terrible Thing To Waste (Whistle Down The Wind) 54. Whore (Mother Superior, Pearl) 55. Come Back To Sorrento ("opera classic") 56. Somebody Loves Me (Gershwin) 57. 16 Tons (The Company Store) (on the 1999 tour) 58. It's Only Rock and Roll (But I Like It) (segued into after "We Are Family" in 2003) You could even start discussing if "Hot Patootie" and the other Rocky Horror tracks should be considered a cover, as Meat wasn't in the original 1973 London cast. And then there are some more covers done live (I Love Rock N Roll, Mony Mony, Guilty, Oh Darling) sung by Patti, Pearl, John Golden, etc. |

Its on the streets of fire soundtrack Its a great version but I think it was before meat did the BA album  |
that brings us back to the old arguement what´s a cover and what isnt....
|
well i have always considered a cover to be a song delivered by anybody but the very first person to perform it

JIm Steinman is the best example.
He gives the same songs to a number of people, but which is a cover? The one that wasnt recorded at first? The one that wasnt published at first? Think of No matter what, what´s the original? Meat? Buyzone? the WdtW cast album? On the other hand there´s the problem that Jim is 'cutting' every song he produces together from earlier songs, or pieces of songs, published or not published. The you got the things with the demos too. I gave up to try to get to know which Steinman song is a cover/original. |

Anyone know where I could get We will rock you?

As far as I know, you're right Lucy, I'm pretty sure Boyzone recorded No Matter What first for the WdtW concept album , the same album that A Kiss first appeared on. Of course only Jim and Meat and the studio engineers, the band, a handful, or record company people, the cleaner and a few others will know for sure which was actually physically recorded first. There's also a slim chance that they were recorded at exactly the same time ... End of the day Boyzone certainly were associated with the song first publicly.
|
No Matter What was initially given to Boyzone's Stephen Gately by Andrew Lloyd Webber. It was intended as a solo recording, and not thought about in terms of single release, just a contribution to the concept album for WTTW. Then when Boyzone's record company heard it, they insisted on making it a 'band' effort (even though only Stephen and Ronan sing on it, same as nost Boyzone records  ) and pushed for single release. It then went to number one for something like 8 weeks (haven't got my book to hand to say for sure.)
That's why it says it was recorded in London AND LA - because bits were added later, and it was remixed. At roughly the same time, Jimmy gave the song to Meat, with the same intention - record it for the concept disc. For some reason, Boyzone's version was chosen to go on (perhaps cos it was a HUGE smash hit ;)) the album, and Meat' s version was kept for the Very Best Of album, which came out shortly after. Meat's planned single release was shelved in the UK. It was, however, released as a double-A with 'A Kiss...' in continental Europe. The actual first release of the song is apparently on an Elaine Paige album , so I've heard, but I've never managed to track this down. |
