Make Meat's Reindeer Famous!

Here's our opportunity to make Meat's reindeer "the most famous reindeer of all":

Celebs decorate blow-up reindeer for charity

Looking for a truly unique addition to your Christmas decor or a special gift? How about a reindeer decorated by Meat Loaf or the members of Alexisonfire?

Virgin Mobile Canada has enlisted dozens of celebrities to put their personal touch on a collection of reindeer (inflatable, not real) that are being auctioned for charity on eBay.

Among those lending their artistic talents are Virgin Group CEO Sir Richard Branson, music mogul Pharrell Williams, emo rockers Panic! At the Disco, and Canadian acts like Buck 65 and Billy Talent.

Proceeds will support Virgin Unite, a charitable organization that funds social and environmental issues and programs in several countries around the world, including Canada.

The reindeer that gets the highest bid will be declared the “most famous” reindeer or all.

“We’re taking the reins this holiday season and bringing together people from around the world to support Virgin Unite and those less fortunate,” says Branson. “To do that, we’re having a bit of fun and challenging Canadians to think beyond Rudolph and support a reindeer that will become famous in more ways than one.”

Videos posted on eBay and other sites will give fans a look at the creative process behind the personalization of the reindeer. There is also one 20-foot-tall reindeer up for bid.

To place a bid, visit ebay.com/virginunite.

Well I was surfing ebay and wanted to see if they added anything new reindeer....wished they would have painted them though

amethyst 13 Dec 2006 08:56

So they've not actually decorated them, just signed them? That's a shame. Still, nice touch I guess.

Chris 13 Dec 2006 08:58

Compared to the initial picture of the reindeer, it has been painted.

Meat appears to have added all the spots and what not. The initial picture shows a plain brown bodied one.

amethyst 13 Dec 2006 19:03

Well from the pictures on ebay, Meat Loaf's, Nikki Sixx's, Crush Luthers and Ok Go's are exactly the same blow up reindeer just signed, the others on offer have been decorated in some way.

I was kinda interested in this so I asked them what the postage costs would be to the uk, between $60 - $160 depending on how it's shipped.

And there was me thinking it was a blow-up reindeer.

Postage from the US to the UK is VERY expensive. To ship one CD costs sometimes $18.- and up...and that's just a CD.

So there's no point any of us UK'ers bidding on it really then

Well, if one can afford it...why not? I was just addressing Michael's post about postage...

AndyK 14 Dec 2006 00:22

Uk'ers could always bid and then find a friendly US based forum member to have it delivered to and I'm sure they could the arrange to ship said Reindeer to the UK for cheaper than $60

Chris 14 Dec 2006 00:45

I think ignoring it is a very good idea and everyone should just do that.

Chris
...who isn't the highest bidder! Oh no! *innocent face*

Jeanie 14 Dec 2006 01:46

Ok, someone had to ask... the deer fully blown up, measures..

nose to tail.. 4'.6"
hoof to top of antler.. 6'

Something to consider, if you want to display it. I thought they would be quite a bit smaller, than they actually are.

J.

mszee 14 Dec 2006 01:47

I think it's for outside display

I realize that, MsZee... but would you really want to risk a hand signed autographed item by Meat Loaf, to the elements out doors, for the signature to be damaged or washed away?
I know, I wouldn't.

J.

Meataholic 14 Dec 2006 15:41

Well I’m currently the highest bidder:D

But I wouldn’t risk leaving it outside either – knowing my luck it would get blown away!!

I would keep it in the house & I’m sure it would end up driving my hubby mad!! lol:lol:

Meataholic 19 Dec 2006 15:53

Only 7ish hours left to bid on Meat’s reindeer!! :O

I’m bumping this thread to remind people to bid because the idea here is not for one of us to get a bargain, but rather to ensure that Meat’s reindeer reaches a respectable price & raises plenty of money for this worthy charity!

meatloaf-unofficial 19 Dec 2006 16:14

whats the price so far ?

amethyst 19 Dec 2006 16:41

£49.00 at 15.39...... :D

Lord Kagan 19 Dec 2006 19:56

amethyst 19 Dec 2006 23:28

Jeanie 20 Dec 2006 04:52

djfierce 20 Dec 2006 17:59

Yep, well done!!!
Sold for alot less than i thought it would!

amethyst 20 Dec 2006 18:19

Yep i agree, i thought it would go for a lot more, maybe just before Christmas isn't such a good time to be auctioning stuff for charity.

Just out of curiosity Ames, how much have they charged for shipping?
That's if you don'tmind sharing your expenses with us of course;)

amethyst 21 Dec 2006 09:18

I'm still waiting on them getting back to me with the shipping costs, will let you know as soon as I do. :-)
