Hi,
Me and a friend are planning to come to London end of July/beginning of August.
Now we´re searching for a cheap but good hotel in London. The center would be best.
Does anybody know which hotel we could go to?

PS: Can You tell me how to get tickets for Whistle down the wind? Heard that it´s played there..

Whistle runs until Aug 12th, London Theatre Direct seems to have the best deals on tickets that I can find (following a v quick google search)

Not especially about the hotel, but booked the flight some minutes ago:
Altenburg (near Lipzig) to Stansted
both flights together for 15€!:D

We´re still searching and found very different offers.

A good rate in central London would be about £70 a room. Not many of them around though.

This ones pretty good value. A load of us stayed there last summer during the HOTD tour.

They were renevating then and we had a few nightmares with no air con when it was hotter than hell inside and out. But i'm sure that must be over now. Its a nice hotel and decors good and its clean.

Um.... Stanstead airport's quite a way out of London..... just thought I'd mention it.

Yes I know, we´ll have to go by train to the center.
A ticket to stansted is 25€(Ryanair), a ticket to Heathrow is nearly 100€(Lufthansa), so I think it´ll still be cheaper.

Not if you take a taxi!

BTW trains are quite expensive going into London also. When I take a train from where I live to the center of London (which is about 40-50 miles or so) I pay £55 return during peak times !!! :shock:

The Stanstead express goes from Stanstead to london so should be ok. Don't think it's as expensive as normal train fares.

The stansted express will cost you around £25 return and this will take you into liverpool street, from here you can get the london underground, the bus or a taxi to get you anywhere in our great city.

Had a problem to purchase the WDTW tickets. Is here anybody who did this before?

OK, here the latest news:
Found a fitting hotel, it´s in Hammersmith, called "Hotel 65" it seems to be cheap and clean, that´s enough for us.

Can anybody explain the difference between english breakfast and continental breakfast?

Continental Breakfast - Cereals, Fruit Juice, Coffee/Tea, Croissants, Bread, Cheese etc

English Breakfast - Bacon, Eggs, Sausage, Tomatoes, Baked Beans, Hash Browns, Fried Bread, Heart Disease, Black Pudding, Mushrooms, Lard, Toast, Cholesterol, Coffee/Tea, Fruit Juice, Cereals ...

Go for the English breakfast.... you won't need to eat anything for hours (possibly days) afterwards! Continental breakfast and you're hungry again in 30 minutes. Well, I am anyway!

You need to bring MUCH time with you for this hotel to discuss everything at the reception desk!! :lmao:
But a good hotel though..... :-P .... I have great memories!

you should have in your mind to be a little bit carefully about Ryanair!
A group of my German friends did miss a Meaty show in London 2004 because Ryanair canceled the flight very short-dated!!

I still can't believe we got that free one in Luton!! I couldn't finish it! :lmao:

In all hotels that I´ve tried up to now were no more rooms available, but now I´ve found one.
177punds for 3 nights.
Very central.
Just have to ask the other part of this travel-team and then I will book it!

Now that I´ve booked the hotel, i can tell you what it is: :twisted:
It´s called Fairway
500m distance to King´s Cross
An en-suite double room with English breakfast for 60 Punds per night.

The booking is confirmed,
got the tickets for the flight
got the tickets for WDTW( I would take photos of the show, but that´s not allowed:-().
Now nothing can go wrong anymore!

Sorry Radiomaster, but I think you've jumped the gun a bit there in asking for the thread to be locked ...... have you organised your 'Short Occupancy Dispensation - Official Fleeting Freedom' documents from the Queen? You need to do this as you intend to be staying in the City of London, rather than just 'London'. It's an ancient form of visa document. I think you need to apply to the Lord Mayor of London (Ken Livingstone) for it. Wouldn't want you to travel all this way and have to leave immediately.

Having just returned from six days in Estonia, my mate Angie and I thought up a fun game... when foreigners come over to the UK and ask how do you say "hello" or "thank you" or "please" or whatever in English, you tell them a rude word instead.... highly amusing.... tee hee hee....
