Worst Song Ever...by Meat

What, in everyone's opinion, is Meat Loaf's worst recording? My least favorite song is definetely "Dead Ringer". I just feel everything was a poor attempt by Meat,Jim, and Cher. They all could have done a hell of a lot better if they had really had their hearts into it.

P.S. This is just my personal opinion, do not take offence. Any one else feel there is a song out there that just rubs you the wrong way?

Heli 30 Aug 2005 19:24

I think i'd rate Dead Ringer as one of my faves!

I'm not too keen on some of the mid 80's stuff....with all the daft dance mix lark and stuff...tbh i havn't listened to that kinda stuff enough to name anything in particular...i sorter just flicked through songs and turned it off. Not his best stuff!

LucyK! 30 Aug 2005 19:39

I don't mind Dead Ringer every now and then, though I think it's over-played and therefore has become annoying!

Not overly keen on Man And A Woman but I can't think of any songs I'd skip if listening to an album...I'll have a ponder!

djfierce 30 Aug 2005 19:47

i love you so i told you a lie was pretty duff :(

JGrayland 30 Aug 2005 20:15

Gotta be masculine.

Heli 30 Aug 2005 20:42

"When it's time to get tough i'm masculine (masculine, oh masculine)"

:lmao:

ChloeLee88 30 Aug 2005 22:10

Wow  well to be honest this is a really hard choice to make, i can honestly say that i like all of meats songs but..........if i had to choose one......... :-? Martha!!!! I like it its just my least favourate one!!
I like dead ringer i think its fun to listen to :angst: ........especially in the car, but the live versions are much better than the original recording!!

LucyK! 30 Aug 2005 22:16

Noooooo! Martha is amazing!!! One of my favourites!!!!

Caelan 30 Aug 2005 22:23

man and woman....like the lyrics somehow but the music sound cheap..
and Mercury blues album version..don't really like that ...prefer Alan Jacksons version
but live is great..

Soweeee
Chloe :?

batloaf 31 Aug 2005 03:16

 hmmm let's think since i don't have any all time favourite meat song i also don't have a All time Worsed meat song.

a few tracks from MALAF and BFIS would be at my bottom list

Priscilla
you can never be too sure about that girl
Man and a woman
Getting away with murder
Burning down

:-)

allrevvedup 31 Aug 2005 13:59

Like every artist and group there's going to be some songs that just don't work.

For instance 'you're right i was wrong' doesn't suit meat loaf at all. Maybe Michael Bolton couldve crooned it ten years ago!

A lot of Blind Before I stop and Midnight at the lost and found sounds dated now, Priscilla, wolf at your door, fallen angel, man and a woman, standing on the outside.

Compared to the amount of good songs he's had there's very few bad ones

QT 01 Sep 2005 13:44

Wolf at your door. I agree MATLAF and BBIS are the worst albums of Meat, although some songs on those albums are quite good.

Leah 01 Sep 2005 20:11

My least favourites have to be Priscilla and You can never be to sure about that girl...

Nick 01 Sep 2005 20:16

Hmmmmmmm :( i like most all of his songs, but it all depends on what mood im in, like if im angry , usually i want my money back, or if im exited bat out of hell. I like all music, i just gotta be in a good mood for it. Oh and i love the song martha!

:D

amethyst 03 Sep 2005 10:33

Nope, cant think of one i dont like ~ they all mean something to me in one way or another. :D

wizardofodd 03 Sep 2005 21:27

i love the album "blind before i stop" think its realy good. i cant think of a song i least like atm.

DIZZY DRUMMER 03 Sep 2005 21:29

The only Meat song I have never got on with is "Martha"

Chris 03 Sep 2005 21:35

The only ones i dislike are Night of The Soft Parade, Priscilla, Mercury Blues (it should be law that no one ever gets to cover Alan Jackson!!) and BOOH:oops:.

Surprised at how many people dislike Martha - i really like that

PanicLord 04 Sep 2005 21:49

Razors Edge - the first couple of notes just really turn me off

JGrayland 06 Sep 2005 18:47

actually for me its a tie between masculine and do it

Winston 06 Sep 2005 22:18

If This Is The Last Kiss, that song is dreadful.

rockfenris2005 07 Sep 2005 12:40

Kiss me Again
Lady be Mine
The Promised Land
You Never can be too Sure About the Girl
Masculine
If This is the Last Kiss
Because of You

White of High 07 Sep 2005 19:45

Burning Down... what a f..king terrible track...

Totally agree, there's just something about it that i just really can't get on with!

Skeleton 20 Sep 2005 10:59

I would say Masculine.. But if I listen it twenty times I think I going to like it.. That happens me all the time.. If I donīt like some song I listen it many times īcouse every time I hear it differently..

Space Monkey 28 Sep 2005 23:31

Masculine is saved IMO by the excellent live version on the 'Objects' single. The album version is OK, but the live version, I think, is quality. I think it's really cool how Meat took a song that was relatively unheard of and, let's be honest, probably not universally like, and completely changed it; basically making it awesome.

"If you're looking for love... ohhhhhh you've come to the right place."

My two least favourite songs are "Priscilla" and "You Never Can Be Too Sure...". Both very eighties and just not Meat Loaf! Rest of this album is OK, with a few gems.

I didn't like Martha at first, but it grew on me. It's odd because most Meat songs are about youth etc, whereas this was completely the opposite. That was the point of the album though, was'nt it? The progression from young to old?

I like 'Because of You'. There aren't many more romantic lines than; "Life is beautiful because of you."

I think this could be true also in the case of wolf at the door, they are both musically unappealing but i like them though cos they like most ML songs they have great lyrics. I found a ML album called The Collection on a download site i wasn't crazy about the songs i hadn't heard from other albums

allrevvedup 29 Sep 2005 18:00

Man and a woman sounds like pub rock and very bad pub rock at that, but with the dance beat that was on BBIS, a lot of songs come out like that.

the_bengal 29 Sep 2005 20:07

When I first heard 'Do It', I thought it was the worst song ever done by Meat. Everytime it came to it on the cd i would have to skip it :( Then I went and saw The 'CHSIB' tour at the SECC in Glasgow and was praying he wouldn't play it!
But, it was one of the opening songs and I thought it was cool :-) The whole opening was (anyone who saw the tour will know) ;)
I can listen to it now, but i still don't love it.

Gez 29 Sep 2005 20:57

Did anyone hear 'Oh what a beautiful Morning' on i think 'I'd lie for you' single.

Awful :barf:

amethyst 29 Sep 2005 22:04

Okay ~ i've found my least favourite one ~ not saying i dont like it ~ i just dont like it as much as all the others........ A kiss is a terrible thing to waste.... sorry ~ it just doesn't "do it" for me.

ames xx

RSG 29 Sep 2005 22:18

I'll be the first to admit I like the songs from MATLAF, there are some that I can't always hear... cause personally I don't mind if alot of Meat's 80's songs aren't as BIG as the big ones are! B-)

I don't care alot for Priscilla time to time. Man And A Woman (shivers) I don't like that... and well bottom line I have to be in a mood to hear certain Meat (80s) songs. The live covers I've heard do justice... I wish there were more.
There's always time for both BAT OUT OF HELL & CHSIB I think! :D

allrevvedup 06 Oct 2005 22:32

Don't leave your mark on me, kinda bounces along but doesn't really go anywhere

Burning Down sounds like a 60's protest song 20 years too late

Everything is permitted...not a happy song

good points from the 80's albums though are Masculine, Dead Ringer, Bad Attitude, Sailor to a siren, modern girl,I'm gonna love her for both of us.

Pudding 02 Nov 2005 03:34

Life Is A Lemon, I can't stand this song. I'd rather listen to the whole of Blind Before I Stop backwards before I listen to this song again through choice.

Pud

The Flying Mouse 02 Nov 2005 05:03

Two songs I don't like are......
Burning down.
Man & A Woman (Christ that song bores me  ).
I'm not too keen on Night Of The Soft Parade or Special Girl either.Really have to be in the mood for those two songs :?
And yes, I do realise that all four songs are on the BBIS album
I'm not BBIS'ist, there are some great tracks on it.Fav is Standing On The Outside.Love it  .
As Space Monkey mentioned before about Masculine, it was much better live than on the album (although I don't mind the album version of that song).I think that's very true when it comes to that album in particular.
As Meat didn't have anything to do with the post production, Frank Farian just threw it together his way :? .When you hear the live versions you hear them played the way Meat would have had them on the album 8) .

Tim 02 Nov 2005 12:22

well, mostly it depens on my mood haha, but a song i can't stand very good is: All revved up!

Damn what a crapy song that is.

AndyK 02 Nov 2005 14:29

For me it has to be Why Isn't That Enough IMO it's weak and badly constructed and it's also far too much of a rip off of 2 out of 3.

Bart 02 Nov 2005 16:57

I hate his vocals on Nothing Sacred. It is really awful.

chrissylf22 02 Nov 2005 17:17

im not that keen on you can never be too sure about the girl

Paul191 26 Nov 2005 19:22

I like nearly all of Meat's songs but i just can't bring myself to like 'Burning Down' no matter how hard i try

Leah 26 Nov 2005 22:33

Hmm "why isn't that enough" just kinda grates on me....

Jackoutofhell 29 May 2006 01:55

You're Right, I Was Wrong is only decent. I still like it, but the vocals are the only thing that pull me through. 45 Seconds from WTTN is crap, enough said.

Razor's Edge and most of the songs from Midnight. In fact, everything besides the title track on that album is worthless, in my opinion.

heat 05 Jun 2006 08:53

I really am not keen on Do It... it reminds me of the huggies nappy advert... do it... do it... do it in huggies!!!!

And Martha.... urg... i really dislike that one!!!!

sunneke 05 Jun 2006 09:15

i really don't like Do it... i skip that song. To me it's not Meat Loaf.

Meat-of-the-action 05 Jun 2006 10:21

i really hate......

ROCK 'N' ROLL MERCENARIES, HATE IT WITH A PASSION

I even remember the video with Meat and John Parr in combats ;-) and meat had his hair slicked back :-P god im getting old.

RadioMaster 05 Jun 2006 10:27

Always MATLAF.
Although the version on live around the world ainīt bad.

mszee 06 Jun 2006 02:14

The entire Midnight At The Lost and Found except for title song and duet Don't You Look At Me Like that...and latter one only for the song itself more or less

Actually, I really like Wolf At Your Door! Just cannot Stand Razor's Edge.

Paul191 18 Jun 2006 18:44

If I had to choose one it would have to be Burning Down. I'm suprised about some of the choices people have made, especially Martha. I think that's a nice song.

Leah 18 Jun 2006 21:52

For me the worst song is Priscilla.

wenners 27 Jun 2006 22:41

I can honestly say after 28 years ive never heard a meat song i didnt like,
though i rate steinamn songs way above the rest.Blind is the album i play the least but the goff sisters live on stage
shawham, hot or what

Blainey 19 Jul 2006 13:45

Heaven can Wait is a song that sticks out at me-I think it was in the wrong place in the album-it's more similar to . Oh and Midnight and the Lost and Found (the song..think the album is OK in general :??: , I like Priscilla and Keep Driving)...

Didn't like Objects for a while but now I fully appreciate it for what it is:oops:

Only heard a few live from BBIS, kind of liked them LOL.

Space Monkey 23 Jul 2006 17:34

Razor's Edge

I can see where people are coming from re Razor's Edge, although I personally like it. For those who really don't like it, try and get hold a live version of the song (Milian 1983) or the exended 12" version. The live version is particularly good.

Wario 11 Mar 2007 02:10

WORST MEAT LOAF SONG EVER??

what do you think is the all time suck-Meatloaf anthem?

i think:

Everything under the sun - Whoever wrote it has editing problems
&
Blind as a Bat - i really think it wasn't BOOH material and never caught on to me.

SW31 11 Mar 2007 02:36

is there one

if i had to choose proberly getting away with murder

Blackkat13 11 Mar 2007 02:58

Oh Man! You want us to get our heads taken off. What we don't like someone else does so this is a 2 way street So here goes mine........ducks & runs for cover.....Cry Over Me again not Bat material

duke knooby 11 Mar 2007 03:54

well most of the album isnt bat material, but they are still good songs. i say once upon a time, popcorn blizzard.. but i have never heard midnight at the lost and found album... and other rare treats... so i'm sure there is worse than this out there

Evil One 11 Mar 2007 06:44

Cry Over Me is terrible and doesn't belong on Bat 3, but the honour of Meat's worst song ever goes to Priscilla. An utter pile of shit.

RadioMaster 11 Mar 2007 10:43

most of the BBIS stuff

dead ringer for me , hate it hate it hate it. R.A.R.M a very close second. dead ringer hate it hate it hate it.

Hypnobabe 12 Mar 2007 10:14

Probably a cop out, but I'd say 45 Seconds of Ecstasy - I loathe and detest that song, and have to skip it whenever it comes on

AndyK 12 Mar 2007 10:39

The one I like least of all is Why Isn't That Enough ... personally it comes across as a poor poor rip off of Two Out Of Three to me, dont' always skip it though as Meat is in fine voicen in that song ... likewise Martha and Meat's version of Left In The Dark, whilst I don't hate them, they'd come at the bottom of the list if I had to rate every single song Meat's recorded in order.

Have to agree with Why Isn't That enough...for me it's not just a rip off...but something extremely needy and whiny...

Martha I skip on a consistent basis...

RadioMaster 12 Mar 2007 15:02

very interesting to see the different opinions here...

for example, I would put Martha in the upper third of all songs.

allrevvedup 12 Mar 2007 16:40

So would i...but again different people different tastes.

Thankfully it shows we're not drones

AndyK 12 Mar 2007 16:42

It's all relative anyway ... even though I think Why Isn't That Enough is Meat's "worst" song, it still to me rates above 99% of the other stuff that's out there by other artists, all it means is that I like his other songs more than I like that one

mszee 12 Mar 2007 16:46

Agreed 100% or...what is it...oh yeah...CHSIB  !!!!

Bart 12 Mar 2007 16:48

WITE is a very very good song.
I like Do it!
Left in the dark is also fine.
I like 45 seconds, It makes me laugh.
I like (almost) every song on BBIS.

I hate Midnite and Bat 3 so there are mine worst Meatsongs ever.

Blackkat13 12 Mar 2007 23:55

45 seconds skip it, if this is the last night it goes on i'll post more later

it was in 83/84 on British Tv and he said that he did not like one song from each of his then 3 albums (BooH,DR,Matlaf) the reason at the time that he gave was that he could not find the character of the songs. This interview i always remember because he said he did not like "you took the words" which came as a shock to me... the 3 songs he liked least back then were as follows

Bat- You took the words
Dead Ringer- Peel Out
Midnight- if you really want to

I am not suggesting what songs Meat likes or dislikes, you asked what interview it was and I merely passed on the information. Meat always passionately sings every song he performs, even songs he may not like.
I don’t know were you can find this interview now but it was right after midnight was released and yes maybe he has changed his mind now

RadioMaster 14 Mar 2007 17:03

didnt he say once, that they put YTTWROOMM just on BOOH to make it sell better, to make it more mainstream-like? Cant remember where I read/heard that...

LucyK! 14 Mar 2007 17:33

Dunno if he said that but would certainly make sense to do that....BOOH was very much stage music, and as Todd said on Classic Albums, you pull YTTWROOMM apart and you've got an Eagles song, which certainly would have sold better than theatre music...

Have to say, Meat not liking a song certainly wouldn't affect his performance - people who have paid to see a show (any show, not just Meat) can't be expected to be a song/scene/whatever that's dull with no passion just because the artist doesn't like it, and Meat's a great example of someone who wouldn't do that

LucyK! 14 Mar 2007 17:35

And to get back on topic...

I reckon my "worst" song would probably be something like Never Can Be Too Sure About The Girl, definitely something form that era

RadioMaster 14 Mar 2007 17:37

but theres surely a difference in the performance between songs he likes and dislikes. For example, I think the performance of Objects one of the most passionate, and not at least because he likes the song.

LucyK! 14 Mar 2007 17:39

Objects is a difficult one to judge by though as we know the emotion and the history that comes with that particular track...I'd imagine that psychologically there'll be a difference but I don't think there's a difference on stage that's clear to see..

AndyK 14 Mar 2007 18:59

Meat 's said time and time again that his aim to to perform every concert at this peak, and he's not happy if he feels he's let people down. Some songs he may find harder to perform at that level than others, that's probably true but; Meat being the professional "heart on his sleeve" performer that he is, I really can't see him adding a song to a set list that he felt he couldn't give 100% to.

RadioMaster 14 Mar 2007 19:30

But dont you think that he performs a song he really enjoys in a different way than a song he doesnt really care about?

AndyK 14 Mar 2007 19:40

Perhaps, but that's my point, I don't think Meat would perform a song he doesn't really care about.

Wario 14 Mar 2007 19:46

Agreed, but its been 20 years since that interview. he may have grown to love took the words after YEARS of preforming it. ;)

not necessarily. Some songs are just DEMANDED by the fans, like AFL or BOOH. I'm not saying that he dislikes them, but if he'd do, he'd still "have to" perform them, though he doesnt like them.
