The Bat

For those of you using a decent browser (like Firefox, Konqueror, Opera, Safari, ...) that fully supports alpha blended PNGs, here's a new theme called "The Bat" (you'll see why). Please note that current versions Microsoft's Internet Explorer do not support this kind of transparency.

Also, please note that this theme requires significantly more CPU power than the other ones. In other words: It's useless on a slow computer.

Ageing Bat 27 Apr 2005 10:06

I like...... but it does my eyes in after a while!! 8-O 8O :tard: :tard:

RockingBat 27 Apr 2005 16:25

Nice one..... but my eyes have it rough after some time just like Aging bat said. I love the bat in the backgroud... does anybody know how i can download it so i can use it as my wall paper?

Keab42 27 Apr 2005 20:28

it does interesting thing's to FA's avatar. the transparent bits of it are black and the black lines don't show up!

edit.

the wysywig post reply function is a little bit tricky to write messages with.

http://img204.echo.cx/img204/6427/image66bi.jpg

from the higlight you can see that there is a message there but its in a wonderful grey font. i know i could change the font to black, but then i have to change it back to white so i can see it when it gets posted.

Fixed. :bleh:

The avatar would never work, because you simply cannot see transparent blank lines on a black background. :p

Skeleton 29 Apr 2005 11:10

It looks really cool..

But unfortunately I donīt have Mozilla in computer in my classroom.. Some of the computer have Mozilla.. :?

Now that's quite interesting, because a Google search for transparent PNGs not working in Internet Explorer finds thousands of hits.
It does not work with IE 5.5+ unless you use a rather complex workaround.

This is a transparent PNG image:
http://www.mlukfc.com/images/mlukfc.com_forumlogo.png
Does this look transparent in your browser?

However, I have modified the theme and installed the workaround.
It does look the same now with IE 6, with the exception of the two title images.

Sample IE Screenshot (notice how the visibility of the bat changes):

SuperLoafMan 29 Apr 2005 18:35

Thats really wierd that....I have the same success as Winston if you can call it that....when i first had the bat as my background it didnt work, the transparancy wasnt right, so i downloaded Firefox and was using it on there, i then came back on to Internet Explorer today and the transparancy works fine....Very strange...but am happy :D

R. 29 Apr 2005 18:39

That's probably because I have installed the above mentioned workaround. http://www.mlukfc.com/forums/images/icons/icon12.gif

SuperLoafMan 29 Apr 2005 18:50

Oh....Sorry i didnt read all of that....if i had i would have known why.....:D

Thats brill anyway....I really like it....It is very good...I wanted to come back to Internet Explorer because using Firefox when scrolling down the different threads it was really really slow...dont know why

Doesnt matter now anyway :D

georgy7856 30 Apr 2005 00:46

:D Love the background ,didnt think i would be able to see him was pleasantly surprised, :D have printed his picure and he is on wall next to computer :D

For those of you using The Bat as website/forum style, here's a slightly changed child style called: "Bat III"

IE does support it - no problem...just hard to hide at work and pretend that you're actually working...also...the page appears to be longer to load...is that anything to do with bat or with me and my "slow" computer?

It only does because I have installed a workaround and that's what's slowing IE down. If you look close, you will see that the header (mlukfc.com forums graphics ...) isn't transparent at all - it only is when using the before mentioned browsers.

The picture or the style setting?
For the style: http://www.mlukfc.com/forums/profile.php?do=editoptions, scroll down, select Forum Skin, click Save Changes.

AndrewG 22 May 2006 20:08

Done it. For some reason I had to select Bat III on that page and the forum save settings otherwise it did not work. Weird.

I promise to look closely at home...here I use standard...if I look too close at Bat...I will get fired most probably...hahahaha...

Thanks!!!

But I saw transparencies on other sites through IE...do they all use workarounds then?

In America almost everybody is writing for IE...so sometimes using other browsers makes a kaka out of the site...I should probably break down and download Mozilla...I think it reads all sites just fine...

R. 22 May 2006 20:32

Transparency here is done with PNG images, due to quality reasons.
Look here: http://www.mlukfc.com/forums/showpos...1&postcount=13

AndrewG 23 May 2006 10:47

R., I still have problems with the Bat. The old Bat keeps appearing and the new one goes away. Any ideas? Some kind of caching problem?

And now it is okay again. This is driving me nuts.....

R. 23 May 2006 20:00

Might be a cookie issue. If you use the Quick Selector bottom left corner, style information is stored in the mlukfc.com cookie. If you save your settings, they are stored in the database. If these settings differ, the cookie setting will override the profile setting for the current session. Change profile, then delete cookies and login again. That should fix it.

RoknRollJesus 24 May 2006 16:48

I love it R! Thanks for the update.....and might I just say that the animation on the front page was a nice treat!

Cheers!

Looks like that worked. Thanks R..

R. 31 May 2006 20:41

I have replaced the background image for the Bat III theme with a new, more detailed one.
Also, the animation on the frontpage is clickable now. :rly: :))

meatloaf-unofficial 09 Jun 2006 11:24

I love it R.
