Dead Ringer Movie
Does anyone know where you can get the Video or DVD: Dead Ringer, the movie with Meat Loaf in it?
Or maybe anyone has seen it, and knows if it is worth watching / buy it. Hopefully someone can help me. And the same question for the musical More Than You Deserve, has someone seen it, or have it on cd (as audio) or videotape / DVD? I'm very curious about them. |
Not possible
I don't think the Dead Ringer movie is available for rental or purchase anywhere. As far as I know, it has only shown at a couple of film festivals. Meat talks about it in his biography.
Someone on the Dream Pollution message board (or associated list) should be able to tell you more about the More Than You Deserve musical. |
There is a small clip from "Dead Ringer" on another Meat Loaf website - it is brief, but maybe the site owner has a copy of it?
|
Thanks Meatles, do you also happen to know which page? I know, it's the easy way to ask, in stead of going to find out on my own
I thought maybe you have got it, with your huge ML collection  |
Hi Tim
I can't recall the specific URL, But I know it is in the video clip section on www.republic-of-loafdom.com/ It is quite brief - 10-20 seconds. I do have most of Meat Loafs movies, except "Gunshy" and the new 2002 releases. I believe I have 24 or so Meat Loaf movies. I am now searching for Meats appearance in "Monsters" and "Odd Couple". |
Meatles,
I do have Gunshy. It is a beautifull movie, very nice. Only Meat Loaf is in it for one scene. That's a pitty, but a very good scene  Still, this movie is worth buying. |
Thanks for the info Tim
I was curious about how long is the Meat scene in Gunshy? I heard it was around 2 minutes. Also, Does Meat beat someone up? |
That scene with Meat Loaf is pretty cool. He beat someone up, but offcourse, in the end he is the victim. Well, not really, he is sort of a bad guy, offcourse.
|
I have all the songs from the stage production of MORE THAN YOU DESERVE, and I might be getting the complete show in MP3 format.
You can hear the songs at: w3.one.net/~smeghead/meat/musicals.htm. I also have a 3CD set of THE DREAM ENGINE, as well as the entire live recording of THE CONFIDENCE MAN. |

Here's the direct link for the Dead Ringer video clip : http://www.republic-of-loafdom.com/M...ies/Movies.htm I wish I had the movie :))) They were playing it in the background during an interview Meat did, and I was able to get a small clip from it. So far we have clips from all of his movies, along with a lot of television episodes, live concerts and interviews. Hope you enjoy them !! Vicki Pearson |

Ive searched high and low for this video, ive never seen it, - it cant be bought anywhere, from manufactuers either, best bet is ebay, but it comes up once in a blue moon.
Sorry im not much help |
I still hope they will release that movie... or maybe by an MLUKFC offer or something like it.... Dead Ringer Movie... must be find somewhere!!!
|
I really want to see "Dead Ringer" the movie and More Than You Deserve. Tried the website link but it didn't work :( I'm gonna try again later and see if it will be nice to me...
|
Apparently Meat's managers at the time, David Sonenberg and Al Delentash added scenes into the movie which lacked of any sense what so ever. Meat got up and left halfway through during a screening for CBS executive. I'd love to see the film, but I bet it's really stupid, however, I don't think it could be any worse then "From Justin To Kelly".
|
I would rather see the movie as it was before sonnenberg and delentash got their hands on it.
I read that was quite good.....until indeed those two laid hands on it.. But still, I would love to see either... Asha |
Yeah apparently it showed at the Toronto Film Festival and actually got good reviews! Hopefully it will surface one day.
|
But.... has anyone got the movie??? Still looking for it. And also for To Catch A Yeti.
Where can i find them / trade them / buy them? Any info is welcome! The Butcher. |
Sorry Tim, I wish I could help you out there........ :(

That silly ~~~~~~~ of a Sonenberg is also on the Classic Albums DVD. He really looks like a Moneymaker. Never undrestand why he still was Steinmans manager for years after that.

Dead Ringer movie...
Hi, does anyone know where I could find a copy of this? Thanks very much :D
|
Short answer; you can't :| IT's never been officially released :(
I'm sure someone somewhere has it and if they do, I'm willing to convert it to DVD and send it to whoever wants it ;) Pud  |
thanks Pud.
I should've known you would have the answer! :) I'm new to the forums (but not the music) and have read a lot of informative posts by you (over at Rockman too). |

ROFL! The best was about Steinman being a kitten :retard:
|
You're talking about Susan! She appeared out on nowhere and started rambling on about Jim Steinman being a cat  that's what promted the board being changed to a registered one if you want to post. By all accounts this Susan's ISP traced back to California, who'd have though she came from the land of fruits and nuts
Pud  |
:lmao: yep, that's the one. ~~~ meeeowww ~~~
thanks for the info on Rockman. I'd probably be in over my head over there. I think Jim is a phenomenal writer, but I don't know as much background info as a lot of the others  |
I have a copy of the video on a TV programme (cann't remember which) video tape, just need to find which one of the 100 hours I have!
I hope to be in receipt of a DVD/video recorder for Xmas so if you can hold on that long - I'll willing search it out for you and place on DVD.... :-) |
So you actually have the Dead Ringer movie? not concert but the actual movie - holy crapsticks  If you can convert it to DVD, I don't mind running off some copies and shipping them out. However, if you've been naught this year and Santa doesn't give you a DVD/Video recorder, I know some people who could convert it for you and I'd still run off some copies and ship them out.
Pud  |
yep thats correct Pud, taped it off the tv years ago (top of the pops If I recall) this is the one isn't it.... just need to locate it amongst the tapes I have and hey presto father christmas is going to buy me the means to do it:D Just hang on in there folks......
|
I would love to get ahold of a copy, lemme know if this happens.
|
Well I've found it - and just want to confirm it is the Dead Ringer Video with Cher we're all talking about isn't it?
Lucky for me it was on the VH1 Meat Loaf Day....... Can some one confirm regarding above please.......... |
I think they're talking about the movie called "Dead Ringer" that Meat filmed in 1981, not the music video he filmed with Cher. The movie itself was never officially released.

For those who've seen is... what exactly was the movie about? Was it a full fledged movie with a story and all or just one of those short ones regarding the song/album, but a bit more than a music video.

Somebody on IMDB.com has given a review of the film, which I will kindly cut and paste here.

Sounds like one I would like to see! And yes, it is a shame we are not able to test if these lines are also our opinion...
Did anyone hear a reason why it never was released? Even better: if there is a chance it ever will?? |
Thanks Pud, I always wondered what the subject matter of the Dead Ringer" film was, and now I finally know. Just wish we all could have seen it...
If I'm not mistaken Ankie, I think Meat says in an interview from around that time, that because of the bankrupcy ect, he was going through, the government confiscated the film, and that's why it's never been released. < I could be wrong, that's what I remember though. J. |
It would seem that the cheeky beggar on IMDB who gave the review, copied it from a review given By JEFF MENELL, which is actually on Jimsteinman.com

Dead Ringer movie?
just got the information from "to hell and back"
I thought it was never shown/released, but then I found reviews on IMDB. Do you got any information about this movie? was it shown somewhere? Is it even available to buy? As far as I know it´s not, but maybe you´ve got further information.... I think the best known scene from that movie is the part they took for the DRFL video clip.... I´d really be interested to see that movie... |
Wouldn't we all RJ!
I think it was shown once at some film festival somewhere and then got snatched and hidden away ... |
here is the review from IMDB I was mentioning.
|
According to Meat's autobiography the movie was shown once at the Toronto Film Festival.
A very short trailer with Meat and Josh Mostel was shown on The Old Grey Whistle Test in the '80s and also during the excellent BBC documentary series The Music Biz in 1995. Diane |
Not wanting to burst any bubbles here, but I will, the ass who posted that review on IMDB.com copied it directly from http://www.jimsteinman.com/deadmovie.htm
Pud  |
Yes the only program really to show clips of Deadringer movie was BBc Music Bizz's Which I have a copy of the program!!!
|
I want this movie!
LOL |
All I know is the clip on ROL and thats all I have ever seen on this movie.
|
Wasn't the More Than You Deserve music video taken from the film?
Pud  |
Quote:
I think this is one of Meat's better music videos. :D |
I've no idea if it was or it wasn't, it just looks it could've been part of a bigger story.
Pud  |
Yes the video to More Than You Deserve was going to be part of the Deadringer Movie!!!
The Dearinger movie has Never been released and to this day, I don't think anyone has a copy. Meat might but I don't know!!! |
Found this on the CanMag website. I especially like the "stay tuned for updates". There are many of us who would like to think the movie will eventually see the light of day!:
As a fan of Meat Loaf’s music, my heart broke when I read in his autobiography that he made a movie based on the Dead Ringer album that never got distributed. The film featured Meat Loaf performing the album’s songs in concert, and playing a Meat Loaf look-alike in a parallel story. Meat Loaf on Lost Dead Ringer Movie Even as a curiosity piece, the movie sounds awesome, but Meat Loaf couldn’t even tell me whether even a bootleg copy still exists. “Not that I know of,” he said. “I’ve never seen it.” The Dead Ringer album was considered a dud after the smash hit of Bat out of Hell, but fans like me have warmed up to it. With Loaf’s current performances focusing on the Bat out of Hell albums, the lost film could be the only chance to see Dead Ringer songs performed. “Yeah, that’s what was in there. That’s the songs that were in that movie. No, I have no idea where that movie is. I think Jim Steinman’s manager does but that’s it.”With Meat Loaf’s popularity exponentially larger with new generations of fans today, it is surprising that nobody has tried to resurrect the film on DVD. “It actually showed in whenever we did that, ’81, at the early stages of the Toronto Film Festival. So it actually had an airing. Somebody wrote about it. So I don't know how you’d research that but it did play one time. But it’s a real mess. The people took it out of the hands of the director and took it out of the hands of me. Crazy people took it over.” Stay tuned for updates. |
If anyone has a premium account on IMDB, you can find out the contact details of the director, or anyone closely related to the film, maybe you could send them a leeter, and hope for a reply of information, maybe they might know, usually a director would know, where his film has ended up.
