Rock star survey

Was reading on teletext earlier about a survey of the best rock stars, think it was carried out by virgin. Ozzy osbourne was voted number 1, they didnt mention meat, so was wondering if any1 else had heard about this survey. Robbie Williams was mentioned in it too, since when has robbie been a rock star

Since he produced that horrid piece of pop vomit called rock dj :evil:
The only time he should be on a stage is when he is sweeping it after the concert has long finished :bicker:
But anyway, I wouldn't worry about the lack of a mention of Meat too much :wink: .I wouldn't be suprised if the participants were selected to get the right trendy results :roll:
If the Virgin execs have any sence, they will be breaking down doors to get to Meat for the chance to release Bat III.

Tim 30 Dec 2003 20:35

INdeed strange. Mr williams a star... no.... a pop star... hell no!!!!

Ozzy Osbourne okay... but not at number 1. Think Meat must be in that list.

RSG 30 Dec 2003 22:16

Ozzy would definetly be in that list. And so should have been Meat. But if you read around somewhere, Meat says, he doesn't consider himself a Rockstar. Maybe he might send us a message on why he thinks that way. I remember him saying something like....

If I were a plumber and I came over to do a job, and it wasn't that good, are you going to hire that plumber again??

Okay, maybe I used the wrong quote for this topic, hehe, I know a few ladies on this board that will call him back again. :lol: But that was his words "somewhat". But if you were to ask me, Meat would definetly be in the top 5 rock stars!! I feel he's number one. But a lot of people will say,
Ozzy Osbourne, Elvis Presley, Jon Bon Jovi, John Lennon, & whoever else they may want to say.

Personally if Meat don't want to be known as a Rockstar, then he is A Rock N Roll hero. And that should be greater than a Rockstar. :)

DebGreaves 31 Dec 2003 13:50

I agree RSG that Meat should be a rock n roll hero, agree that ozzy should be in their somewhere but maybe not at no 1. My sister is into Robbie Williams and when I lived aith my mum before I got my own place that is all my sister used to play, so I can tell you his music is definately not rock, lol, so how can he be a rock star. I also agree he should be sweeping the stage not on the stage, lol :D

This was featured in yesterdays Daily Sport, aparantly it was a survey for the rock personality of the year voted for by virgin radio listeners.
The top 10 personalities are as follows:-

10. Pete Doherty (Libertines)
9. Gwen Stefani (No Doubt)
8. Jack White (White Stripes)
7. Sir Paul McCartney
6. Keith Richards (Rolling Stones)
5. Chris Martin (Coldplay)
4. Robbie Williams
3. Bono (U2)
2. Justin Hawkins (The Darkness)
1. Ozzy Osbourne

How many of these do u agrre should be in the top 10.

Debs :D

rockfenris2005 31 Dec 2003 14:21

If it wasn't for Pink Floyd (God bless their souls) Robbie Williams would have REALLY been sweepin' the stadium - after concerts. God bless Pink Floyd. As for Meat Loaf - the people who didn't vote him (and they didn't vote anyone from Pink Floyd*) are brainless.

ChrissybabezNI 31 Dec 2003 19:29

Pete Doherty (Libertines) ---- Maybe im stupid but I have never heard of him, or the group name

AndyNI 01 Jan 2004 00:30

Rollingstone had "100 Greatest Guitar Players" once. Jack White and Kurt Cobain were in the top 20 and Slash didn't even made the list. :?

I don't like Slash as person for many reasons but as a guitar player he should have been in the top 20, he is far better a guitar player then Cobain or White.

What about Bon Jovi?

Heather.

AndyNI 01 Jan 2004 02:10

He's more pop than rock.

tukayaway 01 Jan 2004 18:00

What about Freddie Mercury and Keith Moon?

Crystal Eyes 02 Jan 2004 14:58

Bon Jovi is more rock than pop.

Have you heard 'Slippery When Wet'?

Some people have a very skewed perception of what constitutes pop music.

Crystal Eyes 02 Jan 2004 18:43

Yes. I own 'Slippery When Wet' and I still think Bon Jovi is rock. Perhaps not hard rock but still rock. Just my opinion and I'm saying no more.

Fair enough, you're entitled to that opinion. .

Anyway, there are some serious gaps in this poll. Robbie Williams made one song with a guitar in it and now he's a rock star!? What?
Ozzy got number 1 due to recent media attention. . .
Macca shouldn't even be near this, where is Robert Plant? Bowie. . .

Personally I think Axl Rose should be in there, even if he is a w4nker. . .
Jack White has done wonders for music recently, and good Lord can he play well.

Also they're missing Thom Yorke.

I think Axl Rose in the 80's or early 90's would have been there, but lately, he has lost it slightly. Before you jump down my throat, I have been a Guns n Roses fan for ages, and I really rate Axl Rose both as a singer and a looker but his latest songs from Chinese Democracy onwards have seemed as though he has lost the ability to scream! All voices change with age, and as you know Axl had problems with his voice after years of screaming on stage, that is not to say that he is now over and done with, he is still good but in a different way, a way that is not (in my opinion) so good as he used to be.

plukie 04 Jan 2004 09:54

My Top Ten Bands Are:-

1. Guns n Roses
2. Metallica
3. Meat Loaf
4. Black Sabbath
5. Queen

Can't really think of any more bands plenty of singers but these are my real favourite bands.

Bohemian 04 Jan 2004 11:04

My top ten artists or bands... in no order would be:

(Well I am not one to classify music - it's dodgy at the best of times. I just hope that this list is of what the majority of you guys would consider "Rock").

-> The Beatles
-> George Harrison
-> Alice Cooper
-> John Lennon
-> Meat Loaf
-> Talking Heads
-> Annie Lennox
-> Todd Rundgren
-> ELO / Jeff Lynne
-> Elton John

Bohemian

You should check them out. They're very good.

shadow1000001 05 Jan 2004 01:39

My top 10 would be:

1. Meat Loaf
2. AC/DC
3. Ozzy
4. Bon Jovi
5. Queen ( the early stuff)
6. Aerosmith
7. Def Leppard
8. Alice Cooper
9. Gun's N' Roses
10. Poison

little_dancer 05 Jan 2004 18:00

1- Meat Loaf
2- Frank Black (The Pixies)
3- Ozzy
4- Kurt Cobain (Nirvana)
5- David Bowie
6- Elvis
7- Jimmy Hendrix
8- Gwen Steffani
9- The Darkness
10- The Ramones (any of 'em)

Draven 05 Jan 2004 18:16

Hmmmm top 10 :-)

1. Guns N roses
2. Meat
3. Kiss
4. Iron Maiden
5. Van Halen
6. Metallica
7. AC/DC
8. The Darkness
9. Alice cooper (early stuff though, not any of that poison lark...altho that was great for his comeback)
10. Nirvana

Again though it depends on how you decide what rock n roll is, i mean many of the above bands can be put in to categories such as metal, grunge etc... so does that just make them alternative and not rock n roll?

Bon Jovi are good, id say they are kinda softrock or pop rock, im not sure. Like i said there are 2 many labels attached to music these days its terrible, i mean busted are labled as punk pop or pop punk whichever, when they are clearly just a boy band, and punk pop are bands like blink 182, bowling for soup, etc

Rob The Badger 05 Jan 2004 21:47

I can't believe I missed Nirvana!
Anyway, the good name of punk (The Clash, Stiff Little Fingers, The Ramones etc) is being dragged through the dirt recently, Busted and Good Charlotte punk? Pah, gimme a break.

Chris 05 Jan 2004 22:55

In NO PATICULAR ORDER!!!!

Meat
Alice Cooper
Bruce Springsteen
The Sex Pistols
Genesis
Heart
Queen
Bon Jovi (the earlier stuff)
Robert palmer
The Darkness

little_dancer 05 Jan 2004 23:32

Badger !!! How are you my furry little friend?! :D

I know what you mean re: 'the good name of punk'...I have to be honest, I clasify things in only 1 of three categories now: Pop, Rock, or Hip Hop...the slippery and ever-changing lines of Disco, indie, punk, heavy metal, techno, hip hop, rap, country, alternative -to name but a few!-(ha!) etc. are just far too dificult (and IMO pretentious) to navigate!!!

I know what punk feels like, and that's the only way to classify it... (and it sure don't feel like Good Charlotte or Blink 182 :lol: )
