A Christmas Album-Uncharted waters for meat???
Am I the only one here that thinks meat should have done a christmas album? I mean it's the only real creative challenege that I don't think he has taken.I have know doubt he and the band would have done a great job(The thoughts of Patti singing "Santa Baby"......ho..ho..ho! wow! ) In fact,I even thought about stienman coming up with some christmas orignals for meat but knowing jim he'd probably have the song end with meat doing a hatchet job on some carolers.
Here's an imaginary track list..... 01)-Sllient Night (The whole band-A capella) 02)-Santa claus is coming to town 03)-Jingle Bell Rock 04)-The Christmas Song 05)-Ruldoplh the red-nosed reindeer(Played for laughs with the band switching Meatloaf for ruldoplh in the begining, singing a full verson.Meat acting angry and then them doing the real thing) 06)-Grown up christmas list(Pearl or patti) 07)-Santa Baby(Patti) 08)-Something new from Stienman 09)-Winter Wonderland(Meat and Patti) 10)-Do you here what I hear 11)-Something new from stienman 12)-We wish you a merry christmas(The whole band-A capella) Afterwards,Meat is prasing their work and they launch into the meatloaf version of ruldoplh again. He yells "oh shut up!" They then all say "Merry Christmas!!!" |

If he does an improve on stage 'cause he feels in a good mood, that's cool 'cause we know he sounds great no matter what he sings! but not a cd! yuk! :? |
I think Meat could do some lovely Xmas songs. His voice has a wide enough range to cover a lot of varieties of styles
You never know !! |

One of my favorite Meat Loaf songs is Come Back Sorrento .... I love the combination of him and Pavarotti. Personally I would love to hear Meat do more opera. Vicki |

My dream Meat CD is a collection of traditional and/or bluegrass gospel songs. He could SO pull it off- it's in his genes!

IF Meat would do a christmas album, I hope he is smart enough to come up with all new christmas songs. There is absolutely no good excuse to rehash all those "classic" christmas-songs again. Why the hell would the world need another version of silent night, santa clause is comin' to town, or jingle bell rock?
IF he would do it - better do it the right way. But then I still hope we won't do it at all. |
.. I have two Christmas cds by my favorite country singer, Garth Brooks. He does the traditional songs and a couple I've not heard before. To me, it's lovely to be able to put his Christmas cds on and listen during the season. It would be even lovelier, imo, to be able to be listening to a Meat Christmas cd, as well, traditional songs or otherwise.

Christmas albums are only there for commercial and money making use (okay 99 from the 100 christmas albums) so meat should not do one. I agree what another member said, if he is improvising on stage... that is cool. But an album. No way!!
|
I agree with Tim and Mariella
Christmas albums are the kiss of death for rock stars. Just look at the pap on most of them. Surely we don't want to turn Meat into Cliff Richard or a Rod Stewart now so lost in direction he's turning to standards better done by the likes of Tony Bennett. It wouldn't sell in sufficient numbers to justify production costs and it would devalue his back catalogue - stick to the knitting please Meat. Mike - Scrooge rocks!!!!!!!!!!!! |
On the other hand, you must say that albums like "Christmas Eve & Other Stories" and "The Christmas Attic" by the Trans-Siberian Orchestra are massive hits (in the US, and from things I've read). Which would plead for my "if you have to do it, do it originally" theory... still, I say: don't.

Title of the album:
Mince Meat ? Mike |
I think Meat should do a christmas album. It would have been great. Put like a rockin' twist to it though. That would be awesome! and I know steinman could write a song or two for it. :)
but i'll take what i can get. 8) |
As much as I hate to, I have to agree that the sales vs cost of production probably would make it not worth to do, but that's not to say that I still wouldn't want to have a Christmas cd by Meat.
Meat singing a studio production of SILENT NIGHT would be lovely. Just call it a whimsical entry on a fan's Meat wish list. |
I'd love to hear Meat sing "Do You Hear What I Hear?" In fact I almost CAN hear him singing it, in my head - or maybe that's the Fijian Flu fever
|
As much as I am a Meat fan and look forward to new material from him, the minute he sets out to be commercial is the very minute he looses all credibility as a dedicated performer, he is a rock opera singer and although he has an amazing voice Christmas songs are not his style, huge, passionate operatic anthems are.
|
I think my problem with the type of Meat fan I am is that I personalize everything. I'd never look at Meat putting out a Christmas album as commercializing himself or his music. I'd look at it as a Christmas present for me.
It's a personal Meat issue with which I will have to learn to deal. |
On this subject...
I sometimes write Steinmanesque songs which I try and imagine Meat singing. One very "rock n roll" song I wrote is called All I Want For Christmas (Is To See The Back Of You) It's even got brackets in!! I reckon Steinman could write a really great, darkly funny Christmas song! Don't want anything to sweet though :) |

... but back to Xmas and commercialism for a moment... interesting to ME ...at anyrate... Cyndi Lauper... who opened a few concerts here in the states for Meat... was at Times Square.. New Year's Eve... performing and waiting for the ball to drop... and it came over some entertainment news report that Blondie... whose lead singer... is Deborah Harry... who was in ROADIE... with Meat... was entertaining at Disney World.... shame Meat couldn't have gotten in on some of that action somewhere on New Year's Eve... get some promo here in the states.. ay? |

but then againe... i suppose this can be chalked up to another whimsical item to put it on this fan's meatie wish list ... |
With UK in Jan and Australia after, considering Meat is/was ill, im sure he doesnt want to have to do anything more than needbe so as hes recovered and 100% for the rest of the tour.
I think sometimes fans are too demanding and realistically hes a human being like everyone else and still needs to take it easy. And the way Meat performs a song or too could take a great deal out of him. |

I dearly hope this never ever happens. Chirst(let it stop)mas albums are for artists who released a few semi-decent albms in the 70/80's, made a comeback, got a lot of media hype and jumped the shark a long time ago.
