Hear hear - I was there for Hurricane Katrina last year so I know what they're going through. All the very best to all. |

I live in Queens, New York for college. I am feeling all this stuff first hand. |

I was actually thinking of flying out to New York for the Beacon Theater show but I wasn't allowed the time off from work so in a way, I'm glad that I wasn't allowed to go since I just know how scared I'd have been in a strange country where I don't know anyone.
I've been reading about this online and my thoughts and prayers are with everyone in the affected areas. |
Some of the pics going online look bad, lots of people without power, doesn't look good.
|
:twisted: Hope nobody gets hit too bad, and that everyone stays safe and well.
|
Good luck to all

My Mom and I haven't been able to go over and check the store today .... but our State Senator told us everything was fine when she went past earlier this afternoon. They're expecting minor flooding in the area when high tide hits later tonight, so hopefully it will be ok tomorrow.
After seeing the pictures and videos of New York tonight, I'm extremely worried about Meat, the band, crew, Katrina, and Kathy who are traveling back from Canada to New York :( |

Thinking of you all there's some scary looking pictures out there! Really us Brits are very lucky with our weather

Did anyone see the photo of Ground Zero flooding? :(

The people of the USA have a proven track record of facing terrible adversity with courage and determination. I feel great sorrow for those who have lost their lives and their families, and faith in the people in the cities devastated by this storm. They will set about the task of recovery with strength and purpose. Hope all keep safe and strong, and that all those undertaking journeys manage them safely.

It is a mess here...I am right across the river from Marshall University in Huntington WV. If you google map it, you can see we are no where near the coast, but the hurricane brought us a full on blizzard. Snow is starting to stick to the ground and schools are cancelled/trick or treat has been delayed. My prayers go out to all affected by this storm. Stay safe, be warm and dry, and follow all safety precautions.

It looks pretty bad to me. 17 dead. Doubt that's just a photo effect. Doubt there will be any concerts in that region for a while. Wall Street probably closed for several days and wouldn't surprise me if the whole election is postponed by a week or so.

Just been looking at Google news about this storm, the media is full of images of NYC and surrounding area (the images and coverage of the boardwalk in Atlantic City are particularly distressing to see) and a few of Canada.
It's impossible to deny that the scenes are terrible, there's far less coverage over the impact Sandy has had in the Caribbean over the past week or so in the build up to events of last night. 69 dead in the Caribbean including 52 in Haiti alone. Many affected in Haiti hadn't rebuilt their lives or their homes after the devastation of the earthquake 3 years ago. It's saddening to see that in a world shrunk ever more by digital media, much of what happens in other countries goes unnoticed. My thoughts go out to those Caribbean nations affected as well. May they receive the aid they need as quickly as it will be delivered elsewhere. |
I think everyone should just head over to Wario's room. They'll be safe there. :-P
|
just hope nobody else gets hurt ,it is so terrible what has happened ,we just dont know how lucky we are , think we are all guilty of whinging and moaning about our weather at some point or another when in fact ours is a piece of cake when you see what has just happened
|
Update : Mom went over to the store today, and thankfully everything is fine :D
As I posted in the other thread, Danny posted on his FB page that they have made it safe and sound to Albany, NY and are in a "holding pattern". The Beacon Theatre show may still be up in the air .. but IMO the most important thing is that everybody stays safe and sound. |

With regards to Meat's show on Thursday, he's just posted on Facebook that they're hoping to go ahead with it...is there any point if the access roads are flooded?
Here in the UK we've had some serious flooding over recent years, not the storm elements that the US has but shocking amounts of water, and that's not been cleared in 8 hours. ~~~~~~ all point in risking Meat, the band and crew travelling unnecessarily if no-one (or very few people) can attend :? |

I have a ticket to the show and as long as the trains are running (and I can get there safely) I'll go. But if they decide it's everyone's best interests for him to cancel that's fine too .... safety should always come first. |
~~~~in' Hell. Just saw a video of a man filming in his street and 3 huge trees just ripped down completely in the space of 7 seconds. Crazy scary. :-(
|
some light at the end of the tunnel:
The busses are now up, and the majority of bridges have been reopened. Just took awalk around the neighborhood near my dorm. saw like 5 big-ass Trees uprooted. jesus christ. |
I'm glad to hear that people are safe. ;)
We're feeling the effects of the storm as far away as Chicago. No rain, but high winds and extremely large waves on Lake Michigan. |
The show at the Beacon Theater in NYC for November 1st has been postponed.
There is a benefit concert taking place tomorrow night (Friday, Nov.2) starting at 8 pm Eastern time. It's being broadcast on various channels and online:
