What is your favourite Bat Album and why?

My favourite Bat album is Bat3 :) It was the album I started off with when I first began to really follow Meat madly earlier on this year. It isn't Steinman influenced which I love as you can get to feel and listen to the real Meat to an extent.

My favourite songs off Bat 3 at the moment would be;
(1) Alive
(2) Monster is loose
(3) What about love
(4) Blind as a bat
(5) It's all coming back to me now
(6) If it ain't broke, break it
(7) Cry to heaven.

DJLeen 12 Dec 2011 23:52

Bat 2 !!!!! Because i started to listen to Meat from that moment on... My favorite songs of the album :

1. AFL
2. Rock & roll dreams come through
3. Life is a lemon
4. It just won't quit
5. Objects in the rear view mirror
6. Out of the frying pan
7. Good girls go to heaven
8. Lost boys and golden girls

duke knooby 12 Dec 2011 23:53

my favourite bat album is bat 2... cause it's a fantastic album with pretty much something for everyone... the songs are simply first class, lyrically, musically, vocally... it reaches out to me in a way the more recent material has yet to, it reached deeply into my soul, my heart, my head... those aren't songs that meat performs... those are songs meat sings about ME... each and everyone is a story, and in each story i see parts of ME, only the songs aren't about Me, they are songs about all of us..

from a music perspective there is a great mixture of styles... you just need to listen... almost 20 years on i'm still finding new guitar licks... it's one of meats heaviest albums musically, only the production is layered and in places so delicate, it really doesn't become apparent...

nearly 20 years on, im still in love with it... yeah theres a couple of things i'd have preferred done differently, but as an overall package... First class!!!

as a benchmark, thats the album i use

(and as bat 2 generation, probably inevitable)

Yeah, I not long got the Bat 2 album, and I quite like it :) Probably more so than Bat 1 :)

Wario 13 Dec 2011 06:05

Bat 2, mainly cause its perfect in every freaking single way.

Every song except LB&GG and Back into Hell made it into my top 50 ML songs video and of the ones that did make it in all but AFL made the top 20.

Love it to death

Julie in the rv mirror 13 Dec 2011 06:47

It's got to be Bat I for me, because you never forget your first love...;)

My favorite song on it is probably FCOL, but Took the Words and Heaven Can Wait would be 1a and 1b.

Of course, Bat II is amazing as well. Nice description, duke! :-)

Evil One 13 Dec 2011 08:53

I think they're both equally fantastic. :bleh:

But that's the whole point of a Bat album and why Bat 3 missed the mark for many people.

Or perhaps the whole point for those who were disappointed? For those who feel Meat is the essence of a Bat album because it's been he who has continued to keep them flying round the world .. it didn't miss the mark at all.

True ;) But if that first love is the one you were meant to be with, each passing year gets better ;) So to use your analogy, Bat 1, (the year we met) was wonderful but every year has been special. We grew even closer with CHSIB, but the best time is the one we're enjoying now and the future beckons. As Browning wrote, grow old with me, the best is yet to be :-)

I love all three of them, though Bat 2 in particular because it's just raw excess - the thundering piano, the epic lengths of EVERY song, the haunting vocals...the general Steinmanism of everything is what makes Bat 2 so incredible. Sure, Bat 1 and 3 have all of this too, but not to the degree that Back into Hell does.

My vote probably would have gone to Bat 3 if What Part of My Body, Still the Children and Braver were on it. Even if they did have Desmond's production work :P

Sebastian. 13 Dec 2011 12:58

Bat 2.

I love it, it's perfect and every song on there rocks. It also has 3 of my all time favourite Meat songs on it. :-)

GDW 13 Dec 2011 13:19

Bat 4. The year 2013.
It's great. The best album Meat and Jim have done. All of the songs are masterpieces.:D

Elijah's way 13 Dec 2011 14:11

Bat 2

It's the album that got me into The Man, The Myth, The Legend, Meat Loaf. It also has 5 of my favorite Meat Loaf/Jim Steinman songs on it.

Well, I still have very fond memories of my first boyfriend, but I didn't marry him. He still has a special place in my heart, but I met someone else... lol

AndyK 13 Dec 2011 16:26

Much as I love Bat 2 and the brilliantly over the top production on it... having spent the previous decade living with Bad For Good, I was somewhat disappointed with Bat 2 and the number of recycled songs that it contained when it came out.

Bat 3, contains some great musical moments but it doesn't quite measure up to its elder brothers.

So, It's the Original for me.

nikox1 13 Dec 2011 17:14

bat 3 i would listen to more, bat 1 of course is classic, but bat 2 i have not heard for a long time? not for any reason, just have not.

That's something you need to sort out then.

The Flying Mouse 13 Dec 2011 18:03

 Both Bat 2 & Bat 3 have got some quality killer songs, but there are songs on both that I would tend to skip.

Although there are less songs on Bat 1, every one of them is top drawer.
Sometimes when you haven't listened to it for a while and then play it in it's entirity, it blows you away just how perfect it sounds.

Bat 1 for me.

Monstro 13 Dec 2011 20:26

Easy question, it's Bat 1, couldn't be anything else could it.......surely not

Or could it, favorite it says, well if it's my fav then obviously it's the one I play the most - heads to his Ipod - oh, Houston we have a problem. I say it's my fav and it's not even on my Ipod??? Problem is I can listen to the live versions all day, just not the album.

So, on play count only my fav Bat album (and it's by quite a margin) is.........Bat 3

But is that an entirely fair way of doing it? You wouldn't have had an iPod for the release of Bat II (or 1). It stands to reason that as Bat 3 is newer you will have played it more frequently. :rly:

BATOUTOFHEAVEN 13 Dec 2011 20:46

Has to be Bat 2 for me, It's the album that got me into Meat from an early age and everything on that album is just perfect. Nuff said!

Not really, only a few months ago that it was loaded with the songs, there's songs from 70's and 80's at the top of my playcount so the age of the songs is irrelevant, it's down to what I like to listen to.

lisa01 14 Dec 2011 01:27

what is your favorite bat album and why

I love all three bat out of hell albums i think they are very very special in there own way all the songs are fantastic and well put together on all three albums and i think the new album hell in a handbasket is just fantastic and i love all the new songs on the album.

forrest75 14 Dec 2011 14:32

bat 2

Bat 2 is my favourite as that was what got me into meats music, after that began buying his old albums the only thing I could liken bat 2 to is hiahb (absolutely adore his new album!)

samurai7 14 Dec 2011 15:39

Bat 2

robgomm 14 Dec 2011 20:58

Bat 2

There should be a poll on here.

Bat 1 for me as every track is absolutely perfect. Then 2, it is very close but has a couple of skippers for me, then 3.

Hey I'm glad I'm not the only one who could listen to the live version of BOOH over and over. I have many moments like that. I simply get a kick out of listening to the live version. Everything about it is awsome :D;):-)

We didn't really need a poll on this at all, due to it being a generalized question of personal opinions.:mad: But hey, if it floats your boat then so be it I suppose :|

That would be because Desmond Child butchered the Steinman tracks on there something I can never forgive him for.

For me it has to be 1, not because I think its the best produced album or even has the best song package overall but for one reason no other album or song by Meat or any other artist has ever managed before or since.

To this day I still get a shiver down my back when I hear the first few notes of Bat, Considering I got my first copy of Bat1 at 7 years old I have heard it probably countless thousands of times for one album track to still have that effect after so long speaks volumes.

Paul Richardson 16 Dec 2011 00:23

It has to be Bat1, just because of its originality, and that all of the songs are classics. Bat2 and Bat3 are mostly recycled, and you could argue are full of cover versions...

Vickip 16 Dec 2011 01:04

Never like using the word "best" ... but that's just me
It's a tough choice. I really love Bat 3, but my favorite is Bat 1 because the songs will always be classics, and I love listening to Meat sing them live now :-)

I agree, not previously released... but we all know mr steinman is a great song recycler, and will reuse songs (or parts of) until it finds the right home. It is also said most songs he writes are for/from his neverland concept. I could be very wrong, but i think took the words, 2 outta 3 and paradise were the only new songs...

to quote mr steinman in an interview for bad for good...

"So 'Bad For Good' is definitely written, conceived and produced as 'Bat Out Of Hell Pt. 2', just that I'm singing it.

:-)

Ollie241189 16 Dec 2011 23:23

Has to be Bat1 because its the start of an amazing partnership on record! Plus there's For Cryin' Out Loud on it and that's joint 1st with Objects for my favourite Meat song!!!!

Jeanie 17 Dec 2011 03:02

Has to be BAT 1 for me. :)
It holds a LOT of very fond memories for me.

J. xo

Battybarb 17 Dec 2011 19:08

a very close call between Bat 1 and 2 i love them both but having to pick gotta go for Bat 2

glamourgirl 19 Dec 2011 15:57

I love all three for different reasons. I would pick Bat 1 as my favorite.

SueL 20 Dec 2011 15:37

All three are in my daily rotation. :-)

I adore BOOH because of its personality, but also because it introduced me to Meat all those years ago. Oh, where did they go?!

Yes, I enjoy Bat II a lot, but Bat III takes the cake. ;)

Ditto.
If Meat had recorded Bad For Good it would be my number one.

Cherry.Loaf 07 Jan 2012 10:45

I'm gonna say Bat 1 as I was born and raised on it. Bat III comes second which puts Bat II in third; I've probably heard that album the least so that could easily change

nikox1 07 Jan 2012 12:50

[QUOTE=wolfy35;561161]That would be because Desmond Child butchered the Steinman tracks on there something I can never forgive him for.

in fairness, was land of the pigs even a proper song before? i think it turned out fairly good. bad for good was ok too imo, seize the night? suppose each to their own.

Evil One 07 Jan 2012 13:18

Land Of The Pigs was a proper song, but for a theatrical show. I think it needed some lyrics redoing (not by Desmond) for Bat 3. It's all 'them and us' instead of 'you and I' which doesn't really sit well with the rest of the album.

Bad For Good is 'ok' but 'ok' isn't good enough. It lacks the oomph that Jim's version has.

Yes, I believe I've said before that Jim's singing is the pits. He's the best songwriter the world has ever seen, but singing is not for him. :nope:
