Is Nothing Sacred?

Meat and Patti version for me

Meatfan4ever 01 Aug 2011 06:53

Storyteller' tour-1999. It's actually the only live version I have found.

evil nickname 01 Aug 2011 09:19

I'm not particularly fond of this song at all—for starters, it goes on for way too long, and it's kinda bland—but I seem to remember an unfinished demo version of Russell Watson with supposed Jimvolvement (yes, I just made that up) which showed promise.

JennaG 01 Aug 2011 09:40

As a duet, I really like the song and I think Patti really adds something special. I think it needs a woman's voice in there somewhere and it's why I'm not a huge fan of Meat's solo version.

samurai7 01 Aug 2011 14:46

Making it a duet went a bit wrong: "And you thought that I'd save you..." "Could have sworn that you'd save me!" makes no sense when sung by two people. Think about it ;)

Evil One 01 Aug 2011 15:06

You missed another one:
YouTube Video

Anyway, I don't like any version. I think the song is uninspired sentimental crap, the sort of rubbish you'd have expected to be churned out by the likes of Boyzone a few years ago. :bleh:

i agree. Not one of my fav songs overall but prefer the solo VBO version

Adje 01 Aug 2011 17:06

I'm not a fan of the song either. It works as a Celine Dion song, 'Nuff said

Steve6 01 Aug 2011 17:18

I agree, this song is very poor, and should NEVER have been put on the very best CD considering some of the songs that were left out.

glamourgirl 01 Aug 2011 18:43

Meat and Patti version. It brought me to tears on the VBO tour.

Elijah's way 01 Aug 2011 20:12

I think that it's an amazing song.

DJLeen 01 Aug 2011 23:17

Meat and Patti's version offcourse!

CarylB 02 Aug 2011 00:49

I adore the song .. one of my favourites with Don Black lyrics I love. Meat's vocals are so powerful. I like the duet with Patti, but prefer Meat's solo version which is stunning imo

I luv Meat's version, but I also really like Russell Watson's version. Luv cx

Meat & Patti duet. I loved the video too. It was simple but full of emotion.

Clearly you have never had your heart broken by someone you thought never would break your heart.

And if you would have quoted the correct words, it makes perfect sense. "And you thought that I saved you, could have sworn that you saved me." Have you ever been in love and thought that the other person saved you from a world of lonliness and distrought? That's what it means. They saved each other.

The song is an amazing song that speaks volumes of a how a person does not understand how the other person broke their heart when they never thought they would.

No way near the best. I can't for the life remember the full name of a guy who did a brilliant cover of this song. His first name is Darren I think. Pudding posted the cover on his blog a few years back maybe someone still has it. This guy's version blew me away. Maybe daveake or Evil One will know who I'm talking about.

evil nickname 04 Aug 2011 01:24

That's Darren Holden, who also did a pretty good version of Surf's Up.

Steve6 04 Aug 2011 01:40

Thanks for that man. That's the guy, fantastic singer he is. You don't know where I might find the mp3's of him singing both those songs? I had the both of them a few years back. That's if there still around.

loaferman61 04 Aug 2011 18:10

I was not too impressed with the song on VBO, then when they added Patti and made some changes the song came to life. Meat's vocal was fine on the original but the song worked so much better as a duet, I totally got the concept of 2 people saying "Is Nothing Sacred" to each other much better. Just based off the first line I think called for a duet to answer the question.

loaferman61 04 Aug 2011 18:13

I could never stand Karine (or Karnie) Hannah. Is she saying "fuh-fighting for"? I will never know what Jim heard from her or that guy from Dream Engine.

Whoah, where did that come from? I was merely pointing out that splitting up that particular line between the two singers made little sense, because that way they're essentially both saying the same thing, rather than one person saying two different things. I understand completely what the song means, and can see that the line makes perfect sense when sung by one person, but it was (in my humble opinion) clumsily done in that particular version.
I actually like the song, and as I said in the original post "Think about it."

Elijah's way 05 Aug 2011 05:00

It's amazing how he sounds just like the studio version in this live one.

Love this song. Especially as a duet with Patti & Meat. Beautiful lyrics. They come from the heart. Powerful and inspiring for me. I cried the first time I heard this song One of my fave songs that he has done. Maybe it touched me so much cause I have had my heart broken so many times. I do like the Karine Hannah version. Nothing beats a duet by Patti & Meat

Looks like playback to me. Those backing vocals are a dead giveaway it's the studio track.

Sorry about that...so many peple were saying how they didn't like the song. Perhaps I jumped to concusions and completely misunderstood your comment. Now that I think about it, it was a bit clumsly done.

No worries, appology accepted :)

robgomm 05 Aug 2011 17:47

I really like this song as both solo and duet, but more so as a duet, i thought it was really well done.
