Best performers over 60
Who are the best live performers you have seen over the age of 60? My list includes The Rolling Stones, Tina Turner, Cher, Fleetwood Mac, and of course Meat.
|
Meat, Bruce, The Stones and Tina.
|
I've seen Fleetwood Mac and the Eagles, and Bruce (although I think he may have been 59 at the time ;) ) and the brilliant Neil Diamond, who was nearer 70! And this Summer I saw the amazing Paul McCartney!
|
All the above.
The thing that sets them to stand out is simple... They all have real talent |

Cliff Richard is still going strong.
|
Meat & Bruce
|
Meat, of course, Tom Jones still belts them out. I saw Ozzy Osbourne in Oxford in July and he can still go.
|
Steven Tyler...without a doubt
|
I saw Elton John and Billy Joel last year.. not too bad for a couple of piano players! :) they still have the audience in the palm of their hands!
|
Meat, Elton John, Huey Lewis and Tom Jones.
Simon & Garfunkel were amazing when I saw them live a few years ago, but I think Garfunkel is having throat problems now and had to cancel their tour. I would love to see Neil Diamond or Cher in concert just once :-) |
Kenny Rogers, Neil Sedaka

I wonder if Patti's going to be back with Cher again (temporarily) before she goes over to the UK with Meat :??: Anyway, I heard that Cher may be going back on tour again, so hopefully I'll finally get my chance to see her. |
Thinking about it, the artists we've had tickets to over the past few years have all been over 60 (and if not over 60 then pretty close!)...
Meat, The Boss, Kenny Rogers (my god I love that man!), Tina (most amazing woman I've ever seen, I swear she and Patti could rule the world), Elton John, Def Leppard and Whitesnake, Southside Johnny... For someone my age that's actually quite an odd list isn't it, oh how different things could have been had I got into Boyzone as a child  |
Forgot about Kenny. For someone I wasn't too fussed about in the past, I'd go see him again in concert in an instant!
Most "new" bands or artists these days don't spend the time learning their craft on the road and so don't learn how to put on a good show from hard earned experience. I can think of very few exceptions to this apart from The Gaslight Anthem, who must be one of the hardest working bands in the business at the moment. They've been on tour since around April and are continuing until December they've barely stopped. As an example they played Reading and Leeds Festivals this last Friday and Saturday in the UK and then back on the road in the US on Tuesday! |

This should be The best performer over 60 BESIDES Meat.
Id have to say Robin Williams |

I've only seen Tina Turner on TV, but IMO, she blew Beyonce off the stage at the Grammys Last year (?). I would love to see Cher as well. |
Having listened to Tina for years I expected to be disappointed with her show as she couldn't possibly still be as good as she was, we also saw some reviews that weren't brilliant but she absolutely blew us away. Andy and I met up with a friend of mine during the interval and we were all in complete disbelief at how fantastic she was...note perfect and still doing every move of every dance routine in stilettoes...what a woman!
|
Many of the artists I would list have been mentioned already. I'd like to add Ray Charles (unfortunately he died some years ago) and Neil Young.
|
most of the older established performers have still got it (as mentioned). but, i'd like to add mr joe cocker to the above list of luminaries if i may

Meat, Bruce, Elton John and Status Quo!
And I'm only 21! I consider myself lucky to be honest... My life would be complete if Billy Joel and Phil Collins were on that list. Mark Knopfler would then be the icing on the cake... |

However I would prefer to see Knopfler if he were to do only or at least mostly Dire Straits songs. Been looking at his recent setlists and two isn't enough for me to be convinced to go. :-( |

Meat Loaf, Elton John, Billy Joel, Fleetwood Mac, Ozzy Osborne, Cher, and Tina Turner
Soon to be Phil Collins, and Tom Petty |

Come to think of it, the majority of the shows I've been to have been by what might be refered to as 'older' artists. But then I've always had good taste when it comes to such things, obviously! ;) |
Meat and so many mentioned so far and a personal very very fave, Peter Tork.
|
If we're adding legends to the list then James Brown has to be there, I wouldn't say his was the best show ever, but good to have ticked a legend off the list.
Although I mentioned the Stones in my earlier post, as well as seeing them as the complete entity, I've also seen Bill Wyman with the Rhythm Kings and Ronnie Wood in a solo show, both of which were excellent. |

I agree with all here, does AC/DC count? Brian Johnson is same age as Meat the others are all in their late 50's |
|
The Stones. The Who.
|
well as a lot of you said meat and bruce, sarge i'm glad you mantioned the dubliners and i must admit i was never a big fan if him but tom jone's new album is great! i saw him on tv yesterday performing john lee hooker's (which brings me to all this over 60 year old blues artists i would add to the list) burning hell. amazing!
 |
many of my favorite over 60 artists have been mentioned, just like to add Shirley Bassey and the great Darlene Love. And Allman Brothers. but there are so many more
|
there is a great bunch of em, most mentioned. From what ive witness myself i'd have to say Steven Tyler and, Rick Parfitt and Francis Rossi from Quo. And is a slighty different...
.....ya know wht fuk it, he's still a performer/singer. Ken Dodd. The man is in his 80's and still performs his mammoth 5hr shows 100 times a year. Joking aside he's best selling artist of the 60's appart from the Beatles. Even if someone isnt a fan, you gotta respect his ability. |
No one's mentioned Daveake yet. :bleh:
|
and "duh" at me ! Crosby, Stills & Nash ! YES !

I'm adding them to the list . JOY TO THE WORLD... WOW~D~WOW !!! I used to see them every time they came to town ! I talked to Corey Wells on the phone ! (bit of a stalker I was in my HEY ! day ... lol ... )
|
the late mr johnny cash deserves a mention i reckon
|
Has any one mentioned Jerry Lee Lewis ??? He has a new album out called Mean Old Man and was on The View the other day and wowDwow ! He still plays a mean piano and can sing along to the playing as well ! I was rightly happy and impressed.
