Tonight Show With Jay Leno

According to this website, Meat will be on the musical guest on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno

August 10th

http://www.interbridge.com/lineups.html

They haven't updated the Tonight Show website yet, but I was able to program it on my DVR :-)

Me too. That's why I hope Meat & Patti sing "If I Can't Have You" on Leno. I think that performance would have the most potential to boost album sales.

I agree with you. Its a very powerful song. He's been performing it for weeks before the shows, and it will showcase a very different side of hang cool teddy bear than Los Angeloser.

I personally hope they do NOT touch like a rose for all sake of mankind. Don't get me wrong, its a great song for when your working out or driving, but Its not a good representation of the album as a whole. I think IICHY is a much better representation of his vocals, the quality of the music, and the emotion that runs through it.

He hasn't actually performed If I Can't Have You yet ... I only heard a bit of it once, during the soundcheck in Boston  But I agree, it is a very powerful song and would show a different side of HCTB :-)

I remember Meat posted on the forum that they may try Like A Rose because it would easier to mix for tv than Los Angeloser. Guess we'll just have to wait and see
Either way, it'll just be great to see Meat on tv again :))

Man I hope not.

you cant say the F nipple on Public Access TV. I dont think bitch either. the song would be censored to no end.

But yes, Meat on TV should tell us how hes been. Hopefully when the tour starts up again well see IICHY and LAR

Exactly :-)

glamourgirl 06 Aug 2010 21:26

I agree. There are many great songs on HCTB, but for a promo performance, "Like a Rose" is not a good choice. "Living on the Outside" has a similar style to "Los Angeloser" so I don't think that song would sell any more albums than "Los Angeloser" did on QVC and Huckabee. Meat and Patti singing "If I Can't Have You" would be most likely to attract the audience' interest and improve album sales.

The song my mom liked the most is If I can't have you. She kept asking if it was Patti, and I said no. I think a lot of female fans love seeing Meat duet because that's the side of him they like.

Yeah thats what I was meaning Vicki, when you heard him at the soundcheck :D I think a few others said they heard him do it at a few sound checks, so obviously he's practised it quite a lot already. Like A Rose is great but its more suited for concert, not promo.....Because LAR gives off this vibe of meat trying really hard to be modern. A lot of adults don't like that. They want to hear Meat's signature sound

Very true. Meat and Patti's promo performances of AFL, ILFY, and CHSIB helped to sell the previous albums and I bet their performance of IICHY would help this album too.

But they were also the lead singles so they kinda had to be played as promo, much like Los Angeloser when HCTB was 1st released.

I think that a solo Meat song is the way to go - maybe If It Rains if the rockier ones are gonna be too much for a studio production, but not a duet with Patti as that's what everyone associates with his past albums which isn't necessarily a good thing imo.

Depends if he wants to promote it as similar to the past or a new direction really.

allrevvedup 08 Aug 2010 11:38

i'd say Running Away from me (as i've really been getting into that recently) but hey it'll probably end up being one of the duet's or Los Angeloser.

Where are the tweets from his account and/or facebook posts reminding people and letting folks know of the appearances???

Running Away From Me would be really great :-) After what Meat posted,
I doubt it'll be Los Angeloser. But we'll just have to wait and see.

I was wondering the same thing :(

LisaT 08 Aug 2010 18:40

Meat, we miss your tweets! Come back to us!

stretch37 08 Aug 2010 18:50

I say let him retreat back into no tweets.

Its better to have slightly less exposure on tv (still millions of viewers) and to put on a better show. Having to keep up on tweets, facebook, this forum, etc is extra stuff that he shouldn't be worrying about....hopefully he's in rehearsals practising his ass off so that he can kill on Tuesday and show everyone what he's made of.

Having said that....the suspense is killing me

Dave 08 Aug 2010 18:55

...even some verified celebs have people who update fans for them...

stretch37 08 Aug 2010 19:05

Ya but Meat still has to tell her what to post about, or participate in the video tweets, and his assistant could be doing other things that help prepare for the live show instead. Its all speculation, but obviously by the lack of communication, the crew have their hands full.

I miss the tweets too Suzie. And I absolutely agree with you .... hopefully she'll post something about it and the Lopez show tomorrow, just like she did when Meat was filling in for Eddie on the radio show :-)

I just posted the links for both the Tonight Show and Lopez Tonight on Meat's Facebook page.

Don't get me wrong Suzie I want to see them tweeted too.

But if Meat's crew is already overwhelmed with prepping for Leno, they should stick to whatever helps Meat's needs to help him be ready for it. Maybe it will stress Meat out having it announced on tweets?

wtf? that would slightly miss the point of tv promo, wouldnt it?

stretch37 08 Aug 2010 20:28

What's the point of a ton of promo if your not ready to perform?? Why is that hard to understand? Based on meats tv performances this year he wasn't ready for them. It's just an opinion based on speculation. I doubt they've forgotten to tweet the update. There's either more important stuff to do or they haven't gotten around to it yet

Yes, although given he has the album featured heavily on his FB page, he may be hoping to catch the attention of people who haven't visited it or don't visit it regularly.

I doubt a quick tweet to remind people is likely to be stress for either Meat or his PA ;) Just a twittered line isn't overtaxing, but neither does its absence suggest anything particularly significant to me. And like others, I look forward to seeing him twittering again :)

In that case it's either do it or dont. He has to be up to the challange. If he isnt, he shouldnt perform.
I'm not an expert on american tv, but the fact even I know about Jay Leno means that this is one of the most popular shows in the US. You cant really hope no one will see it so he can get away with a crappy performance.

yea, Id say his lawyers, guns, and money performance on Letterman was watched by a huge slew of people and got sales of the VH1 storytellers CD shot up.

His last performance on Leno as far as I can ponder was Deadringer For Love back in 1998 to promote his very best of album.

We also gotta say that Leno has lost a huge slew of his popularity since last year.

Ya good point RadioMaster. Leno has a huge audience. His 160,000 or so social networking followers are like a fraction of that. so I guess its either a marketing mistake or a personal preference by Meat

Exactly. It is a huge opportunity. Thats what I said isn't it?

The mistake is f**ing up and not making the twitter/fb updates part of the marketing plan. For instance, a simple 5 day countdown would have been great.

duke knooby 08 Aug 2010 23:00

ahhhhh right,

youngJB 09 Aug 2010 00:34

Leno is damn lucky to get a guy like Meat on as a guest act. The writers on the show suck, so the musical guest usually carries it.

on the other hand Meat Loaf's fb/tw followers already know about the album, so there's no need to make them aware of its existence. it's the people who would never check meat loafs facebook/twitter pages who are the target audience for this (i guess)

so marketing wise it wouldnt really make a difference

Meat will wanna target people who dont own hctb, and convince them to buy it. Twitter/FB would only be useful to pass on the word to others.

Not only can Leno get anyone he wants, but he can do whatever he wants too. But truthfully, having seen his show a number of times, it's really lost the humor recently, so I'm sure I'll watch Meat then turn the channel, as will many.

To include violating union contracts, violating entertainment contracts, destroying the precious legacy of the Tonight Show that Johnny Carson, Steve Allen, and Jack Parr worked long and hard to establish. I am making the rare exception of flipping over from the wonderful David Letterman or FoxNews to watch Leno based solely on Meat Loaf being the guest.

O'brien sucks, he was haemorraghing viewers at an unbelievable rate. Granted Leno's show wasn't that much better. NBC could've handled it better, but they did the right thing by showing O'brien the door.

Did you see Leno's white house stand up performance? It was probably the most painful thing I've ever seen. I don't know how this guy still has a job.

At least we've got Lopez to look forward to. His show is much better anyway. And whatever Meat performs, it'll help get people's attention.

Just learned the news. Sad that I won't see Meat tonight, but there must be a good major reason why. Joe Libretti facebooked that he was in Burbank, CA and ML tour continues, so forward march.

Good point. And I agree with you about Mike Posner.

I agree Suzie. And Pearl just posted on her twitter page about her upcoming shows with Meat starting on Thursday August 12th

Unfortunately I did, absolute shite. The thing is though, Leno doesn't write his own jokes, he 'pays' someone else to come up the lame crap that he does.

Fingers crossed he'll still be on Lopez.

Anyone know what the ratings are for these late night talk shows? I'm assuming Letterman is #1

At the moment (July's moment): Nightline #1, Letterman #2, Leno #3. It varies.

I am over thinking. But I'm going to take it as a positive sign that Pearl tweeted her upcoming dates and Meat has tweeted his upcoming dates as well. So I'm going on the assumption that he is well enough to get out there and tour. I guess it may be a little to much assumption as we've been getting shows called off at the bell.

Kinda' wish he would just say something here, there or anywhere.

I wish he had been going on Letterman, we get that show here, but not the other two.

Yes, but with Meat's appearances anywhere now-a-days it's usually about an hour at the least or the next morning at the max before it's generously uploaded online for all of us to see everywhere. And at these times is exactly why I love technology.

he should pay someone to read them as well ... i took chance and tuned in last night... number one... UGH... he's hard on the eyes... B ... his horrid habit of looking to the left... and then to the right looking at the audience... and then squinting at the cue-card placed in the middle... is totally annoying ... it reminds me of how the grade school teacher told us to read our reports in front of the class... lol ...

the last i remember watching late night tv was with my mom when i was a teen and i'm an ol' fart now... i only tune in or tape if there's someone on the show i like ... throw all those hosts into a bag ... your Lenos... Lettermans... etc... shake it up and pick out anyone and pop them into the host's seat... no matter to me ... i'm there to see the guest ...

i wonder how many others do the same... only watch for the guest ? ... i so dislike most of those hosts that i can't imagine why they would be getting ratings at all ?... and how are ratings figured what with all the automatic taping via dvrs and the like ?? ... does anyone here know ? ...

but most important... ARE YOU ALL TYPING WITH THREE DOTS TODAY TO CELEBRATE MY 10,000th POST ?

back to topic... serio... does anyone know how ratings are figured here in the States ? ... ta ...

July 30 ... that mention could be the day after the doctor's order ... which would be ... July 29th ... EXACTLY two weeks before this Thursday show !!! (i WAS anal enough to lift my big butt off the chair and check the wall calendar... ) ... let's keep in mind those late night shows are booked in advance... so... there ya go ...
