Banned? Why?

I suspect he was expressing an opinion contrary to the one the site or certain members wish to project.

The Flying Mouse 10 Jun 2010 23:45

 The main reason was persistant arguing on the forum concerning something that is based on another site.
Ignoring several warnings in the process.

As you all know, we have a policy that if a fight is started somewhere other than this site, don't bring it here.

As the "dowload the single to get Meat to No 1" effort is not based here, we don't want arguments here between people involved.

That simple.

A Slice Of English 10 Jun 2010 23:52

I assume the ban is only short term? Doode was a good character to have around here. This place needs balance after all.

Good to hear that R, as A Slice Of English is quite right. Understand the need to stop the forum descending into a brawl though. Not saying that's what the Doode did as I am not sure, just making the point in general.

I respected the lads enthusiasm and I actually agreed with a lot of what he has said over the short time he has been here and I liked his positive outlook. If he doesn't return here after the ban ends, it'll be a shame, IMO.

IMO I think some people have the mentality that too many Positive Polly's make it boring. At least that's what the shoutbox implied the last time this topic came up.

Like politics you'll always find fans who are loopy left or radical right. Those who are fans of the music and those who are fans of the artist. If people didn't have a difference of opinion then what a boring world it would be.

What I find really interesting when we talk about balance is. When Bat3 was released there was a few people who didn't like it for whatever reason (like me) I and others got almost driven out of town for our views because this is a 'fan site' and if we didn't like it, then we should basically f*ck off and weren't 'true fans'. Yet it seems now that we were right because Meat Loaf himself has said he doesn't like Bat3. Now I ask you, when the artist is agreeing with what the 'other side' are saying, albeit a few years later, then the opposite view of what the general populous are saying might not be so wrong and might be worth a listen ;)

i liked Bat3 then ... and i still like Bat3 ... despite what Meat says ... it's my favorite Bat ... Meat's saying he doesn't like it is bothersome but not crippling to my psyche ... imo he should look at it as i do ... it's the album of my adult angst ...

who can define universally "better" ? ... i think it's opinion... y'know ?... i like the songs ... i like the sound of Meat's voice... i'm not that fond of the sound of his voice on the studio Bat 1 and prefer live cuts of the Bat 1 songs... ie ... those featured on Live Around The World ... Rock & Roll Hero ... and some other compilations ...

i wasn't aware of a "Meat Loaf" until he was promoting Bat 2 ... i heard an interview on the Howard Stern radio show back in 1993 maybe ? ... what Meat was saying was interesting to me ... what caught my ear was his talking about being in Hair ... that's of my AND his generation ... i guess that's why my ear tuned in ... then a clip of AFL was played... i found it interesting ... then some time later i saw the video on tv ... and remembered that this was the guy interviewed by Howard Stern ... loved the sound of the song ... found the video interesting ... couldn't quite get a good look at the guy until the end... when the hood is removed... and BAM ... hooked for life... on the look of the man ... and the music ... so... it's the total package for me ... i look forward to seeing Meat in films... concert... and always to a new cd ... no matter who writes the tunes ... or who produces ... so... all that said... Bat 3 speaks to me and my life more than the teenage-angst tone of the other Bats ... i'm also a big fan of WTTN and CHSIB... i like them better than studio Bats 1 and 2 ... and if you've hung in this far... lol ... thanks for listening... and don't be too mean to what i said ... ;) ... lol ...

Evil One 11 Jun 2010 13:55

When have I ever been mean?

I do agree with a small bit of what you've said in that on the whole most of the Bat 1 songs are much better live than on the album. Bat 2 songs on the other hand are mostly better on the album than live. I thought the idea of Bat 2 was to be adult-ish instead of teen-angst?

As long as the other side, every once and a while, says something positive about something. The thread "Bat III is a good album" has more than half the posts discussing what's wrong with the album. The thread is "...good album", not "...what's wrong with the album".

This is true. Goodness knows how many honest posts I've had in mind that were not really negative, but did not hit the post button because I know even the slightest hint of certain things is going to set off a certain segment on here. It can be a bit stifling. I will probably regret posting this as well.

A Slice Of English 11 Jun 2010 20:12

You're just being honest Loaferman, and shouldn't have to apologise for that. It's when honesty becomes abusive or harsh that people can justifiably get their noses out of joint. Unfortunately, on this site you will indeed find yourself stifled by those people who feel anything but positivity on a fan site is unwelcome and should not be posted.

This thread you are referring to is someone's opinion about the album, opening up the floor for a valid discussion. By saying "You can only post in a thread about what's good about Bat 3 if that's all the opening post is about" is a bunch of nonsense. How can there be legitimate discussion about what people found good and bad about an album if you're not allowed to say what you think was bad without starting a new thread saying "Bat 3 is a bad album, because..."?

Utterly ridiculous. Yet again.

So why does almost every thread turn negative?

I can respect the guy sitting next to me at the home team's football game; who's cheering on the home team but then boo's when the home team's coach makes a bad decision. But what if a "fan" shows up decked out in the home team colors and then spends the entire game booing everything? Does that make being a fan of that team fun or enjoyable.

And you proved my point, because you couldn't resist taking your shot with the last sentence. Now that's being positive!

PanicLord 11 Jun 2010 21:54

I agree with English - hope Doode comes back as he seemed enthusiastic and I shared his sense of humour.

Not convinced the site needs balance as such imho - we just all need to be able to say what we really think without getting jumped on while taking responsibility for how we phrase our posts so that they're not deliberately inflammatory.

Lol - just re-read the last paragraph. Guess that's quite a good definition of balance! In that case, gimme balance.

Good points. I like to be as positive as the next guy, but to always be positive is just unrealistic as is having any concern that someone will take an honest comment the wrong way just because it wasn't what they think belongs on a "fan site". I like the vast majority of Meat's work and am a huge fan since the very beginning, but sometimes this site feels stifling and that is just how I feel. I think half the people who this would apply to would not even see it in themselves. I think this site expects you to either wear blinders or rose-colored glasses with no in between. Unfair? Maybe, but that is how I see it.

Exactly.

A Slice Of English 12 Jun 2010 01:59

Rage, you make it sound like EVERYTHING posted by some people is negative, but the fact is you choose to take stock of ONLY the negative stuff or whatever you perceive to be negative and then throw it back at people saying "How can you be a fan when you're booing things". That in itself is inflammatory to some people. Of course I can be a fan and still not like certain things, that doesn't mean I'm negative. People can dislike the album, that doesn't make them negative. There is no black and white with these things and your attempts at point scoring really, really don't help matters.

Absolutely. I've posted more positive than negative things about Meat yet I get jumped on for being negative when I don't talk about MEat in a Godlike fashion. Ah well, I'll keep voicing my unbiased balanced opinion

stretch37 12 Jun 2010 02:44

I can no longer stay quiet on this matter. My view is fairly simple, and i think there are several people who will agree.

I've been reading this forum since 2006, and have been involved with a large amount of great discussion involving Meat. The discussion has become heated - threads closed numerous times. But we all are able to bounce back and laugh at it. I see this time as different. The diverse group of comments have disappeared and I miss the humor in the posts, and the relaxed feeling of this place. I'm saddened. I see only a small group of outspoken individuals posting the majority of the time.

...Why?

It, again, seems simple to me. There are individuals on this forum who think that they can say whatever they want and they expect all of us to simply 'deal with it'. They have little regard for how it effects others feelings on this forum.

The vast majority of us, myself included, generally choose to not comment. Because when I post on this forum, I think about how others will be effected by my post and I adjust it accordingly. it is obvious that several people right now do not care about me in return.

I coming closer to saying that I am done with this place. The bullies are becoming in control and I feel that I have no place here anymore.

For those of you who have been pushing for thoughtfully worded opinions, and common courtesy, I'd like to say thanks for voicing your opinion and allowing yourself to be scrutinized. It has helped me find my voice and stand up for what I believe in.

Matt.

You just keep reading the parts you want to read, Rage.

And Stretch, I have always been courteous about other peoples opinions until it comes to personal attacks or discussions on what you "HAVE" to do to be considered a fan around here. I think some people need to back the hell off from those people who MAY have an OPINION contrary to their own instead of jumping all over them accusing them of being negative ALL the time.

I say this again:

1) You may not like the new direction Meat has taken.
2) You may not like some of the promo that has been done or the way it was done.
3) You may not like the new album

But it does NOT mean you can't be a Meat Loaf fan if you agree with the above 3 statements, and I wish people would simply accept that. I DO love the new album, more than anything since Bat 2 but that's my opinion and I can accept Pud's opinion and other peoples opinion that they DON'T like it and WHY they don't like it, without having to question their credentials as a fan. THAT is what I find offensive, and I don't even fall in that supposed category of people!! The fact that those who don't like the new album are making posts questioning certain topics such as sales and the albums success is NOT, from what I have seen, intended to be a DIG at anyone, least of all the man himself and how anyone can think that what is being said by those people who don't like the album can amount to inflammatory remarks is beyond me, because they clearly, clearly aren't.

And if people think they are, then that is what the mods are there for and the posts should be reported instead of peoples characters being questioned and rubbished.

And you keep selectively reading what you want. I keep saying, this is not about one post. This is about posting something not connected to someone and then having a person feel like they have to put the comment down.

One example of many: I post a comment about HCTB saying it's a good album and Meat Loaf is singing his ass off. And someone feels the need to post back, well should we all like it if he sings the Village People and sings his ass off. Why not leave my comment alone. It wasn't directed at this person. Why? Why? Why? Now the defense is going to be, hey I'm just joking or having a laugh. But that happens all to much. And then when someone responds back to one of those persons with humor, their post is labeled as a "stupid response". And I never questioned anyone's character or got personal. I think getting personal or questioning someone's character would be saying, "Utterly ridiculous" or "stupid". Hmmm...wonder who's said that.

To reiterate for the last time. This is not about one post. This is about someone posting and then having their post attacked for no reason. Now you'll say I'm attacking and being negative now. And you and others don't like it. Lesson to be learned.

I was not attacking your comment. I was responding with a question of my own. How you chose to interpret my post is entirely down to you.

Because there's no reason to do it. And it's not the first time. All I'm saying is, there are plenty of posts I disagree with, there are plenty of posts I don't look twice at. I just don't think every post I make needs to be questioned. Now I think you would say I didn't respond to you negatively when you made the "Village People" post. I tried to come back with humor. I didn't call your response "stupid" or "ridiculous". That Is The Difference. If I quote someone, they should feel free to fire back, but if I just make a comment, there's no need to take a shot. Why take a shot when someone just comments, i.e. my "400,000 isn't bad" post. I can keep going with examples, but it's not going to help. Contrary to popular belief, I don't think we should all sing Kumbaya around the campfire. I don't like every Meat Loaf song. I don't have rose colored glasses on. Disagreement is fine. Many people have said something I don't agree with and I don't feel the need to post back or make a comment. I just want that same treatment.

i liked Bat3 then ... and i still like Bat3 ... despite what Meat says ... it's my favorite Bat ... Meat's saying he doesn't like it is bothersome but not crippling to my psyche ... imo he should look at it as i do ... it's the album of my adult angst ...

I feel the same way tink. I loved Bat 3 back then and still do. While it does bother me a little that Meat didn't like it, it doesn't change how I feel about it, but it saddens me that it was such a negative experience for him and I feel badly for him for it. And I do love the fact that he had so much fun recording HCTB and that it was such an enjoyable experience for him.

If you're going to quote my post, you should of read it first. Most of my post was referring to what Stretch said. I have given up trying to explain or be reasonable with you because it is clear you don't accept reasoned discussion and perceive it as negative. If you have a problem with anything I post then refer it to the mods.

Yet it seems now that we were right because Meat Loaf himself has said he doesn't like Bat3.

Exactly what I think as well. What would have once had you catching all kinds of flack on here is now said by Meat himself.

I don't wear rose colored glasses either, but I sometimes feel the culture on this site can be boiled down to:

"cool" = saying songs/albums are shite, or crap, or Jessica Simpson (?)

"uncool" = saying songs/albums are beautiful, exciting, heartbreaking

"Cool" people appear to view "uncool" people as somehow less discerning, just because they aren't full of criticisms.

This occasionally pisses me off. I'm just making an observation, not rubbishing anyone's character.

stretch37 13 Jun 2010 07:45

Thats exactly how I feel. If i am to "Take a risk" and actually post around here....i have to understand that everything I say is going to be scrutinized and responded to in a criticizing way. If I express my true feelings, for example, to describe how amazing it was to hear Love is not real for the first time, someone will scoff at me for being someone with "Rose Colored Glasses" who is just "Brown Nosing Meat" and being over-emotional and overly-positive.

..You can look back on my comments, and you'll notice that I dont say much, and I'm fairly positive.

Perhaps I should be more blunt. And say how utterly disgusted and pissed off I am that there are people on this forum who are willing to CRITICIZE and JUDGE others, and say things that are meant as put downs because you dont care?

such as the way the folks doing the promo for the single campaign have been openly and mockingly criticized and told they are doing it "wrong" and that they likely wont get "enough" to make a difference in front of our faces while we work. And just not giving a flying f*ck about our feelings.

How does that make you feel, those of you who did that? That you have successfully, by not caring, removed positive energy from a (and yes, I hope you cringe at the word) beautiful, awesome, full of love campaign for Meat Loaf?

Mission Accomplished?

I suppose I am now part of the 'Cool' club for being a bitch right back at you?

melon 13 Jun 2010 08:12

Lol...... this thread is ridiculous.

A Slice Of English 13 Jun 2010 11:28

This thread has indeed become ridiculous, yes. Now we not only have those who have been somewhat critical of the new album being targeted for their views, apparently those who are positive about the new album are being targetted as well!

There are no winners here it seems.

A Slice Of English 13 Jun 2010 11:30

However, I would like to add that the discussion about the Fan Campaign single belongs off board, as has been mentioned so referring to it here is largely irrelevant now. As for the criticism on the album, I would be interested to see these posts that accuse people of brown nosing Meat or wearing rose-tinted spectacles. I haven't seen one that's for sure.

totally agree with you!! but all this is nothing new, is it? there is lots of people on here that dont bother posting for those exact reasons? but when your on here long enough you learn to ignore it, its very funny actually when you sit back and read the shit!!
as you say they troll every page and look for something or someone they dont like to post a response to? he he, its always the same? i read only certain things, when the title interests me. so i can understand why you lost your cool? but it aint worth it.
just laugh at the shite that gets written, its so funny!! its pure boredom, and the crave for attention. they pine for a reaction, and love when Meat responds to the jibes and pokes they send and direct at him. and then turn around and say Meat took it up wrong? ha ha, its great stuff!! they attack like a pack of wolves, and love to twist everybodys words? and my favourite part is after they cause murder, they then turn it around and act like they are the victim? he he , classic stuff!! and when i started the campaign, i emailed a list of people to somebody that will say lots of crap about it? and guess what? every name i wrote down was spot on!!!
shock/horror!!!!

Sarge 13 Jun 2010 14:56

Folks, why do you spend that much time and energy on fighting with each other? The more posts I read on this thread the more I imagine Meat Loaf singing "MAAAAADNESSSSSS" being the soundtrack to this.

I just read the post you're referring to on another thread and I haven't seen anybody "scoffing at you" so far.

Back to the topic of this thread: I hope The Doode will return. I didn't agree with many of his posts, yet I think they were interesting. Some people seem to spend more time on questioning the personalities of certain forum members than on discussing the actual content of posts and Meat and his work.

dukesofhazard 13 Jun 2010 15:23

So, on the topic of this thread I too hope The Doode is back soon cos his posts often made me smile.

As does the way the every thread these days ends up being a dissection of posts made in every other thread and the whole negativity/positivity thing  I just don't bother replying to the many (many) views I disagree with here, seems to work for me and doesn't provoke anyone. As long as I know I disagree that's good enough for me ;) (and yes I realise I've sort of contradicted myself by posting that here!)

Same here. I'll keep posting the news alerts (interviews, etc) when I see them, but I don't have the
time, energy, or desire really to get involved in any of the discussions.

For the record ..... you can call me one of the "uncool" ones
And I still like Bat 3, but not as much as HCTB, which IMO is something truly special that Meat should
be extremely proud of.

LisaT 13 Jun 2010 20:31

This is all quite sad really, isn't it? My fear is that all these power stuggles (which is how it looks to me) will eventually drive Meat away from this site for good. Once a topic starts to get a bit 'personal' between two people, perhaps it would be better for them to 'thrash it out' by PM?

AndyK 13 Jun 2010 21:17

Or maybe they shouldn't let it get personal in the first place. Each of the "groups" that are mentioned in this thread are as guilty as each other at different times.

It's interesting that some of those who are eager to accuse others of "writing shite" and "attacking like a pack of wolves" had their posts edited by the mods due to "insulting lines" or "provocations".

Vicki

Although by Kathy's definition of uncool here, I cannot call you uncool for expressing a heartfelt positive opinion about something Meat related. I think it's totally cool that someone can put into words how they are moved. Many people can't.

I'm also of the opinion that I like Bat 3 no matter what Meat says. I do not share Meat's opinions of the songs on that album. We all know where I stand on HCTB, and right now it's new and flavorful, so no other CD is being played in my car right now. I can't tell you the last time I listened to the radio. Songs from HCTB may be promoted on my favorite station, but I'd have no idea.

I know the Doode will be reinstated soon, but whether he chooses to come back and post.....is completely in his court and at this rate, if he reads all this bickering he may exit stage left for a while.
