WWE RAW 05/10/10

Meat has announced he will be at WWE RAW tonight in Pittsburgh. Airs at 9 PM Eastern Time on USA Network.

allrevvedup 10 May 2010 19:56

I don't think he'll be the guest host since Flava Flav is scheduled to do this, as per wwe.com, but will be interesting to see if he is on it in some form

Yeah, he said he planned to show them a thing or two so I'm assuming he will be involved in some sort of skit (sometimes they are embarrassing on WWE) and get to mention HCTB.

RadioMaster 10 May 2010 20:00

think he will perform anything?

allrevvedup 10 May 2010 20:08

I hope he just turns up without a performance...although something of a brief sing off might not be bad...a bit like the Avid Merron thing.

I don't know, but kind of doubt it. Most likely it will be some backstage interaction where he gets to plug HCTB, anything beyond that will be a pleasant surprise. If WWE "creative" actually produces something for him that is not embarrassing it will be good enough for me. Some of those skits are atrocious.

Fire Ball 10 May 2010 21:36

It all comes down to how they are done. You have to commit to it and it will work.

wizardofodd 11 May 2010 03:50

Well it looks like i will be up so i will catch what i can before i drop off. Creative on WWE are a case of hit and miss but it is very dependent on the performer. Meat is a great actor and i am sure it will be highligted here in whatever role he will have. Should be great!

wizardofodd 11 May 2010 04:11

RKO this is great

suzieq 11 May 2010 04:11

OH NO RANDY DID NOT JUST DO THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LMAO!

wizardofodd 11 May 2010 04:12

Ok meat took the bump well, surprised they allowed it. i am sure he is fine. This was funny

meat_loaf2008 11 May 2010 04:14

That. Was. AWESOME!

wizardofodd 11 May 2010 04:17

Out of all the things i didnt expect meat to take a bump, not at his age. I think this is the last of mr loaf tonight but that was pretty awsome. Meat played the lively slightly anoyin heel well. Great moment

That was excellent :))

I feared for Meat as soon as he started singing Elvis in Vegas. But it went over well. AND they replayed it. LMAO! Can't stop giggling. Talk about committing to the show.

wizardofodd 11 May 2010 04:28

Nice quick upload. Talk about plug an album haha it was kind of a micky take of the whole promotion thing which contributed to the story of getting rid of the guest host spot (as a power role) Meat really is a great sport, full of energy. Nice crowed reaction too

He didn't take the bump that good. I applaud him for his efforts though!! WWE could have done a better job of creating a segment for him. I think Vince McMahon might be a Steinman fan.

If Meat took the bump without break or bruise, I'd say it was a successful bump taken. :))

Easy Chris. You saw Fight Club right? It's all acting...and Randy went easy on Meat...I'm sure Meat had a few practice rounds on the mats in the back. Yes, we need our guy in good shape and we know about his knees, ankle, feet and all kinds of things, but I bet Meat had a blast selling that move.

"The movie's over fade to black"

Considering he's not used to taking bumps he did a nice job of setting it up for Orton and Orton did his job of protecting Meat and both sold it great. Meat did a pretty nice tuck and roll and laid out like a chalk outline, which told me he landed OK. I've seen indy wrestlers take moves worse and they usually land awkwardly not neatly sprawled out like Meat did. Good job and much better than some silly skit backstage that I had feared they'd do.

wizardofodd 11 May 2010 15:43

Yes it was a very safe and clean bump. Vince (the owner) wouldnt risk hurting a celeb if he didnt feel it was safe and Meat was up for it. Considering the insurance probs meats had in the past i am surprised they let him do it. I have seen many botched moves performed on celebs and non wrestlers but this was fine. I just hope when i am Meats age (i have 40 years yet) i will be able to have his energy and commitment to performance (i am an actor) that he showed last night and Meat can sure cut a decent promo compared to many wrestlers.

In the end, I think the WWE appearance was great and did it's job. It's being talked about and helps the album. Many celebrities have been on WWE to promote their projects. It's the same thing as a print ad in a music magazine or going on Today or Fox News. Good for Meat Loaf for having fun, plugging the album and allowing me to have a good laugh (and make fun of another fan).

Meat said earlier in this thread:
Quote:

You have to commit to it and it will work.
Well, he certainly committed and made it work brilliantly imo.

He played his part wonderfully .. he could have BEEN one of those managers who jump in the ring to wind their wrestlers up. This was our coaching sports-lover Meat at his peak! I think he had fun and enjoyed it, it was a shrewd move to reach millions and make them aware he has a new album out and he punched out more information than I'd have thought possible whilst waiting for his nemesis. It's years since I watched any wrestling, and I've never watched it USA style, but to me he fell like a tyro.

Can't help feeling that to have been up in the ring, promoting in trash-talk style, and pulling off a fall like that might be one of Meat's treasured moments, if not the realisation of a secret ambition ;)

Also, the people fearing for Meat's safety/health...he puts his body through more than that every time he does a concert.

Yes, he's a grown up now........ he can choose to do something like this if he wishes, in controlled circumstances such as this, now if on the other hand, in the extremely impossible chance he was in a match, now there would be reason to worry lol. But this is just Meat having fun promoting HIS album. At least he wasn't doing cartwheels lol. He does more damage to himself doing those than a controlled stunt with a professional, whom must have completed that move how many 100's of times?

allrevvedup 14 May 2010 12:53

I thought the segment started off really well (apart from the bizarre choice of Paradise as Meat's theme, Bat would've much more of a kick to it)

The "Randy Orton" screaming bit was good as well but to me it started to go downhill from the second he held the cd upside down, never a good thing for live tv when trying to promote your product:D

It just went on a bit too long and trying to sell Elvis in Vegas with such a slow build up in the intro just wasn't going over well at all.

Orton was Orton, a much better character then he has been in years and the best part being that he has a steely eyed look of determination and says very little which in terms of television is a great character to have for the intensity alone.

I suppose if it helped to sell even one copy it was worth it, but I can see why people were upset at Meat being there. To some it can seem like he is flogging himself out in desperation; to me I saw it as promotion but the photo and interview afterwards were all really good imo.

carole 14 May 2010 13:08

Well I thought it came across as Meat having fun and going along with it and acting the part, which he does so well.

I'm with you on this. It looked like the actions of someone desperate to do anything to promote an album. Will be interesting to see if his appearance = sales.

Now, I will confess to being a wrestling fan, so to see Meat walk down the ramp and step into the ring was just priceless. I did not think that it came across as desperate at all, it seemed more fun and lighthearted (except for the RKO, which Meat took pretty well). All in all I thought it was a good way to reach a large audience. Meat walked out playing a loud heel character, and he played it well, kudos to Meat for trying new things with promotion.

When you feel passionately about something, like Meat Loaf feels about this album, you will do anything to promote it. It's not like he channeled the Sham Wow guy and is doing infomercials at 2am on SPIKE. Damn, he's promoting an album people! He's marketing his product. And...if I ever get the chance to be on a WWE program, let me state for the record, I want to take an RKO, Pedigree and Sweet Chin Music in that order!!!!
