If the Germans didn't have the bad habit of dubbing foreign movies and TV series, it maybe wouldn't take that long. It's especially annoying when it comes to Meat because you'll miss his voice.

Says on wiki (so obviously not 100% reliable) the series should start in the UK in Autumn 09 but Meat Loaf is in the 20th episode so it'll probably be next year by the time it airs...

Dunno what you think of House but this season is going like this:

Start of the show - 8 pm

8:05 pm somebody gets very ill with something very mysterious...

8:05 - 8:50 pm - we're pondering all known to mankind illnesses and take House's insults in stride.

8:50-8:51 pm - somebody says or does something that makes House freeze

8:52 pm - House finds solution and all is/are saved...

If it wasn't for Hugh Laurie...dunno where this show would be now...

We're way behind in the UK, season five hasn't even started here yet as far as I know but they're on episode 16 in the US.

I've been keeping up to date with season 5 thanks to the wonders of the internet though so I should have a megaupload/similar download link for the episode a day or so after it airs.

There's a bucket load of sites on the internet where you can dowload TV programmes soon after they air. If you have a rapidshare account there's more sites to download from than megaupload I find. I'll have downloaded the show about half an hour after it has finished being shown in the US :))

Will it let us UK dwellers do it Pud? And is there anything clever you have to do for your computer to let you download? I've tried downloading Meat concerts from things called torrents before now and only got a tortured scratching noise after waiting 8 hrs...:-)

It appears to be that the big thing in watching new TV shows on computer is "hulu"...we have a bunch of creepy commercials running about it...

We're starting to see the first episodes of season 5 in Italy this week, and we too have the habit of dubbing the voices, unfortunately

AndyK gave a link where it says it'll air March 30th, since we're only in Season 5 it would be a bit presumptious to predict he'd be in Season 6 in an episode on March 30th 2010.

grr, i went on the House website, it said watch full episode i thought brilliant! clicked on it and it said thank you for showing an intrest, but this is only available to residents of the usa. it not fair america takes hugh laurie but wont let his country watch him!

I am so very confused now...so episode premiers on TV on 3/30/09 chock full of commercials...and yet they show this episode on the Net now???

I think the webpage by default displays the last episode that was aired, so the one with Meat will be available later. Unfortunately, that does not affect the fact that I won't be able to watch it online. :(

Yes, they do. Season 5 started yesterday (I didn't expect them to be that quick) but a German-speaking Meat Loaf always appears a little odd to me, that's why I'd like to see the original version.

Well, I can always try to DVR it and then send the tape over or something if somebody wants it...

As I said earlier in the thread, I should have a download (& poss. streaming) link for the episode a day or two after it airs, that link should work for everyone.
If I can find my blank DVDs I'm also happy to stick it on disc for anyone who can't/doesn't want to download it.

FOX hasn't updated the schedule on their website yet.
But, according to my DirectTV guide, an episode called "Locked In" starring Mos Def will be on March 30th.

So hopefully Meat's episode will be on April 6th.
After what happened with DFTL, I'll believe it when I see it :roll:

i watched it up to series 3, haven't seen it much since, but i do have it on my hardrive to watch eventually

I am just in love with Dr. House...so I watch...

After last night's episode, they showed a really brief clip of Meat leaning forward and tenderly kissing a woman's (I'm assuming his dying wife's) hand. It looks like it's going to be a real tear jerker.

According to our next week's TV Guide, it's the episode Locked In which is the episode before Meat's one, so we should have it in a couple of weeks. They usually stop regular programming over Easter, so hopefully will be after that. I CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!!!

When it comes to legendary Rock gods, Meat Loaf has earned a seat at the table reserved for only the very best in the history of rock and roll. Anyone who grew up in the late Seventies and Eighties already knows that Meat Loaf's still amazing 1977 "Bat Out of Hell" album was a fixture in almost any personal record collection. You'd be hard pressed to find anyone who, at some point in time, hasn't sifted through a record or CD collection and not spotted one of the coolest album covers of all time.

Over thirty years later, after one of the best comebacks in the history of music with the release of "Bat Out of Hell II: Back Into Hell" in 1993 and Bat Out of Hell III in 2006, Meat Loaf is gearing up for a new album with Green Day, Goo Goo Dolls and My Chemical Romance producer, Rob Cavallo.

First an accomplished stage actor before his musical career, with stints on Broadway and the Rocky Horror Picture Show, Meat Loaf re-establishing his acting career after a memorable performance in the 1999 film Fight Club. Now Meat is back in front of the camera for a guest role on the popular Fox series, House, in which he plays a man dying of heart failure in the episode "Simple Explanation" that airs Monday, April 6 at 8pm. Interestingly enough, as we found out when we hopped on the phone for a recent conference call with Meat Loaf, House doctor Hugh Laurie may be playing piano on the forthcoming Meat Loaf album.

It's not often that you get a few minutes with rock opera royalty, but here's a look at our brief time with Meat Loaf who filled us on his upcoming guest role on House while we schooled Meat on TheDeadbolt.

THE DEADBOLT: Hello, Meat Loaf.

MEAT LOAF: What is Deadbolt.com? I have to go there when we finish.

THE DEADBOLT: It’s an entertainment site - TV, film, interviews, etc.

MEAT LOAF: I have my computer in case I needed names. I went for a name and it didn’t [pop up] on there. Wait a second, that’s not fair. No, you’re not the budget locksmith.

THE DEADBOLT: No, I’m not the locksmith. It’s TheDeadbolt.com.

MEAT LOAF: The Deadbolt.com. There you go. Yes. That first thing that came up was a locksmith. Now I’m on your homepage so I can see what it is. Cool. Great.

THE DEADBOLT: Great. So what type of research did you do to play a guy dying of heart failure?

MEAT LOAF: Well, I’ll tell you: The main thing that was perplexing was - "Okay. How to be sick without playing sick?" You follow me? And they’re very good. The casting on House is very good, about getting 75% or 80% of their actors that come on that just figure it out. So that was the hardest thing because I’ve never played anybody - I mean, I’ve played crazy people; they’re sick, but not in the fact of being ill. It’s real easy to play sick, but to be sick is a lot harder. And I remember we were shooting one scene and when we finished it I said, 'I’m glad we’re not shooting anymore of these because I swear to god, I’d die of a heart attack.' My chest was killing me.

I mean, it was hurting. I don’t know really how I got there. I will confess that I was watching Damages. You have to understand - I love Damages, I love Glenn Close. I don’t know if you’ve worked with her. I don’t know if you have, but I have and man, oh man. Ted Danson was in a hospital bed and I had it on TiVo, so I just rolled it over and over and over again. I just kind of watched Ted Danson. Ted Danson playing sick, I went, 'God, he looks really sick!' So I just studied him for a little while.

THE DEADBOLT: "Simple Explanation" sounds like a pretty emotional episode. Were there any scenes that were tough to get through?

MEAT LOAF: Yes, the opening scene was really tough to get through. I’m still paranoid about it. I am, I’m still paranoid. I do this all the time anyway. I’d say, 'Was that okay? Was that fine? Was that okay?' Driving home I was cursing myself going, 'I’m a moron. Man, you could have done it this...' That’s me.

THE DEADBOLT: Second guessing a little bit?

MEAT LOAF: That’s all I do.

Meat Loaf on being an actor instead of playing music on a show:

"I would never play for the show. I wouldn’t. I have been offered more TV shows than you’d even understand. I won’t do it. First of all, I started as an actor; I didn’t start as a musician. I was a stage actor in New York. People don’t actually realize it, but I did the Rocky Horror movie before Bat Out of Hell and people don’t get that. I did it in L.A., I did it on Broadway, I did Shakespeare in the Park for Joe Papp. I worked at Lincoln Center and Kennedy Center. I did three or four Broadway’s. I can’t remember now, it was so long ago.

"So I started as an actor. Hopefully, my ideal situation is for people to watch House next Monday and not even know it’s me. That’s my ideal. I’ll give you an example. When I did Fight Club people would go, 'Oh, what movies have you been in?' I’d go, "Fight Club," and they’d go, 'Fight Club?' They would always look at me like a dog, turn their head like, 'Fight Club?' I’d go, 'Yeah, Bob.' They’d go, 'Oh, my god. You were Bob.'"

Meat Loaf on working with Hugh Laurie:

"You know what? I have to tell you, I really don’t know ... but he walked on to that set and he has all that dialog every show, and a lot of it, and all the technical terms. I really don’t know how he did it. Every time he would walk on that set he didn’t have a script, he just went. I was in awe of him.

"As we were shooting, because it shoots over a two-week period, I got to watch. There were two episodes of House on while I was shooting it. The last one that I’ve seen, because I’ve been off doing a movie now so I haven’t seen anything, he was playing piano. I knew he played piano, but they really featured him in this one playing piano. I have a song on my album that is just piano - we’re going to record this piano - so I just wrote him a little note saying, 'Here, listen. This is a demo and I’d love for you to play on it.' That’s all I was going to do. I wasn’t going to go up to him and go, 'Did you hear the demo?' or any of that. The next day on the set he walked up to me and said, 'Are you kidding me? Yes, I’ll play.' So I’m hoping that happens.

"As far as an actor, the guy’s amazing. And he’s right there. I mean, he’s very, very generous as an actor. I mean, I just found the experience amazing."

Meat Loaf on his next album:

"Well, I don’t know. I have to say this - and it has a connotation, but it’s a new world now - I went into Nashville. Everybody goes, 'Oh, Nashville - country,' but no. All the songwriters have moved into Nashville. All the rock writers, everybody. I work with writers. I don’t pretend to be a writer. I’ve written, but I hate everything. In fact, that’s what I would tell them down in Nashville. They’d go, 'Oh, we want to write with you,' and I’m saying, 'No you don’t, because if you do, it’s not going to get on the album because I’ll hate it.' That held true. I’d sat down there and worked on three or four songs and they demo’d them, sent them back to me, and they’re not going to be on the record. When we get into the studio and start doing tracks and things, I will change lyrics and write lyrics. I always do that. But that’s a different thing. I just can’t stand anything that I do. But I went down there.

"When I do deal with writers, I guide them. I tell them storylines and I tell them what I need, this is where I’m going. I changed management this year and I went with Ken Levitan and Irving. So I met with them and they said, 'Well, we have to get the next record together.' Ken looked at me and said, 'Look, why don’t we get Rob Cavallo?' I said, 'Okay.' So I said, 'If you can get Rob Cavallo, then hey, fantastic.' I met with Rob Cavallo and he just had a lot of projects stacked up in front of me, so I’ve been waiting for him."

Meat Loaf on why he’s doing Don’t Forget the Lyrics:

"We’re playing for Painted Turtle, which is a subsidiary of Paul Newman’s Hole in the Wall. It was put together by Lou Adler and Paige Adler. For people who don’t know who Lou Adler is, he produced the Mamas and Papas, Carole King, Cheech and Chong. He was one of the biggest. I have a long history with Lou. He was the producer of the stage version of Rocky Horror Picture Show in L.A. in 1973. So I worked for Lou. Lou is really responsible for putting me in the movie of the Rocky Horror Picture Show because he was also one of the producers who did that. I have a long history of playing basketball with Lou and Jack Nicholson out in the Rainbow parking lot in the afternoon. I’ve just been friends with Lou for a long time.

"So I hadn’t seen him for a while, and I saw him probably seven or eight years ago at a celebrity racecar driving thing - I don’t know. He was there and he was telling me about Painted Turtle. One of the co-founders was Larry Brown, the NBA coach. It just does great work for the kids just like Newman had always done. I try to do things for kids. I mean, there are so many charities to play for. I go to the hospital sometimes. If you ever go to the hospitals, the musicians, there are all kinds of things, but that particular charity is unbelievable."

Season 5 will be aired on Channel 5 sometime in 2009. I did a quick search and one site said that C5 have requested the rights so hopefully it will be shown then if it doesn't get onto the net before hand. Mind you, is House not on DVD sometime?

I've watched all episodes of House...this was by far THE BLACKEST, THE DARKEST episode...and I've cried for the first time while watching House...

The ads for the show weren't wrong...but for a very different reason...

ohmygosh, I can't believe that actually happened. And that's only about the third or fourth time I have ever cried at a tv series.
Meat was great, I'm slightly overwhelmed by the other parts of the episode though!

It was dark and sad (one of the reasons why I actually don't watch medical dramas). Meat and the actress playing the wife (sorry, forgot her name) were very good. It was one of Meat's best, most intense performances, in my opinion.

That's the thing...House is NEVER THIS dark...sometimes it's almost a comedy...

just watched it, I thought the idea of House not accepting the truth was good, really fit in with his character I think. (from only ever having seen two or three episodes)

I won't post a spoiler, as this thread is avoiding that. But I agree with Zina - it is a dark episode, and the regular House fans should watch it in sequence.

Meat was great; he underplayed the character beautifully.

The rest of the episode steals his thunder quite a bit.

He played the character and Eddie was a low-key guy; there wasn't any of Meat Loaf super-intensity; just an average guy going through a very tough time.

That's true, but I thought in this case that was rather disadvantage(sp?). While he's used to play over the top characters like the lizard, bob paulson, etc his performance of this rather quiet character seemed a little....wooden...to me... especially compared to Hugh Laurie who did an outstanding acting job in this one...:?

I just watched it and that it was a great episode, even though I don't watch House.

Meat played his character really well and didn't underplay anything in my opinion, he played it spot on. I'd really like Meat to do more TV drama shows.

Well, he plays an inpatient, what do you expect? :-) I like the fact that that character doesn't have any "Meat Loaf" traits, it wouldn't have fit. That appearance gave him the chance to prove that he actually is an actor, not just some typecasted guy.

basically I agree, I thought it was a good idea at first too, but, I cant help it, his performance seemed a bit static to me.
Maybe I'll have to rewatch it, or maybe it's just that this has been completely different to anything else he's done lately (actiiing wise).

I, too, wish he would do more dramas. From what he said, he keeps getting scripts, but not many appeal to his character acting sense. This House obviously did.

The House character is very over-the-top; Meat would have to have a role that would be equally as intense to match House himself. Now, THAT would be some episode!

Maybe that's why they are supposedly singing together now...to get it all out....

Just like RJ, I can't say that I've enjoyed Meat's performance greatly...

I was just the opposite ... I'm not a House fan (I've only seen bits and pieces of it once before this week). I really enjoyed Meat's performance, but I didn't like the rest of the show.

Meat is an excellent actor, and I too would love to see him do more dramatic roles like this in the future.

I think Meat's a very good actor. Since he moved back to LA and has had more and better roles in different films he's shown the depth and breadth of his skill in a variety of characters he's played. The Lizard was an over-the-top role, and the bible quoting Red in Black Dog .. but his role in Outside Ozona wasn't .. nor in Everything That Rises, or his imo best role to date, Fred in Focus, and there was nothing "over-the-top" in the heavy but restrained menace of Sheriff Dogget .. nor the psychopath in Blacktop, where he entered as an affable and easy-going trucker and one watched his character unravel.

To me each role is played to show the character he wants to bring to the screen .. from Wishcraft to Learning Curves .. Hole in One to Fight Club .. Crazy Love to Trapped .. and the storyteller in the Ballad of Lucy Whipple. And of course the passionate over-the-top on stage performer Meat Loaf, who bursts on stage to lift us to a different place :)

Imo Meat's "intensity" is what he applies to each and every role .. what we see on screen is the product of that, whether it is a quiet and thoughtful man, a larger than life villain, an unravelling psychopath, a menacing bigot abusing his power, or a guilty one who has to run with the crowd .. He has said he was asked to "overplay" the drug baron Lizard .. but to me he plays each role with thought and skill to bring a particular character alive, and in more recent years he's had quite a variety and has shown just how versatile he is. He has that ability that not all actors have to let you see what a character is thinking when it's at odds with what they are saying .. he's sound ..

This is a thread discussing Meat Loaf in his role in House and was covering his skill as an actor. So I replied .. talking about my opinion of his acting.

Were this a thread about Alec Guiness I would have talked about his skill and the roles that illustrated it. Were it about Derek Jacobi, or Meryl Streep I would have done the same. But this is a Meat Loaf site and the thread is about Meat .. so I posted about him and his acting.

I don't post that Meat's "the best actor in the world", nor the best singer in the world. I happen to think he's a very good actor, arguably one of the best stage performers ever to grace the stage and certainly one of the best in my lifetime, and he's MY preferred stage performer. But then I'm a fan .. which is why I come to a Meat Loaf fansite and post about Meat's work .. not surprising imo ..

Something else I'm curious about. Were you one of the people I sent a free Meat concert Tshirt to?

All I did was ask a completely reasonable question, because I wanted to understand the way you are thinking about Meat Loaf's acting.
I expected something like this, that's why i specifically stated I was asking this without any ulterior motives.

There is no-one I would state is "the best actor in the world" .. it's simply a statement I could not make. However, you wanted to understand my thinking about his acting? I believe I illustrated my initial post with examples of his roles in a variety of films to show very clearly how I see Meat's strengths as an actor, without any suggestion that he was the best in the world, so found your question rather unnecessary, given I didn't imply that in any way ..
