The thing I find weird is that it's an AMERICAN songwritter.

I thought the whole point of Eurovision was that the song was created by the nation it represents, well, OK, that and voting for people you want to be chums with :shrug:

didnt they scrap the rules that the writer had to be from the country and the song in the country's language a few years ago, when it stopped being popular (again)?

I'm surprised at the changing of the rule though.

they try everything to increase the popularity of the contest. since the russians win every year hardly anyone is watching.

Don't know about the writer but you don't have to sing in your native language anymore. Don't know if the contest still makes any sense if the songs / writers / contestants don't come from the country they're supposed to represent.

I remember Celine Dion taking part in the contest some years ago. She sang for Switzerland. :twisted:

And I agree that every country should be represented by the native with the song in the native language written by the native songwriter...

Also...how is Russia winning every year??? They have pretty awful songs in general...dear and near only to Russians???

And just to put my two-penneth in, I think Eurovision Song Contest is nothing about music except maybe to a couple of countries. It's political ass-kissing and each country taking part provides a song by way of entertainment. The way things are at the moment, England hasn't a chance of winning!

You're not missing anything. If at least the music was interesting but most of the time it's just torture. :wtf: There was only one band at last year's contest I liked (some long-haired heavy metal guys from Finland), most of the other performances were boring or annoying. It's a big disadvantage that they don't have to sing in their native language anymore (at least those Fins did) because now I understand the lyrics (unfortunately). :shock:
