 I'd Lie For You And That's The Truth? Got to number 2 in the singles charts? The thing I find weird is that it's an AMERICAN songwritter. I thought the whole point of Eurovision was that the song was created by the nation it represents, well, OK, that and voting for people you want to be chums with  |
didnt they scrap the rules that the writer had to be from the country and the song in the country's language a few years ago, when it stopped being popular (again)?
|
 I guess they must have, as last I looked, Diane Warren wasn't from Ellesmere Port, Bognor, or any other place that can be considered English soil.
I'm surprised at the changing of the rule though. |
they try everything to increase the popularity of the contest. since the russians win every year hardly anyone is watching.

I remember Celine Dion taking part in the contest some years ago. She sang for Switzerland. |
some years ago? wasnt that in the 70s?

That way Tony Blair could have inserted himself up the Presedents ass by voting for Americas song. As it was, that wasn't an option so he had to get us involved in one middle eastern war after the other  . So consider yourself lucky. All your country needs to do to kiss ass is vote for a dodgy song. We have to send our chaps somewhere hot so the American military can pepper them with friendly fire  |

I am sorry - wasn't following this since I've left Europe...here it doesn't appear to get a lot of publicity...unfortunately (?)
But how did Celine Dion represent Switzerland???? And I agree that every country should be represented by the native with the song in the native language written by the native songwriter... Also...how is Russia winning every year??? They have pretty awful songs in general...dear and near only to Russians??? |
Just read article...composer is still British...maybe he chose her lyrics for his music???

Crap songs and shit loads of oil. As long as you have plenty of the later, the former can be overlooked and you get to win. Eurovision is nothing more or less than a political ass kissing convention set to music. |
 Funny enough, here's what Chris had to say on the matter in 2006.........

I suspect he was right in 2006, and in 2007, 2008, and will be in 2009. Some things never change  |

Well, maybe then I am not missing much...on the other hand they will probably broadcast it on Russian TV which I have recently acquired subscription to...anybody can tell me when approximately this is taking place? Russian TV Guide is so way off, it is actually funny...

And just to put my two-penneth in, I think Eurovision Song Contest is nothing about music except maybe to a couple of countries. It's political ass-kissing and each country taking part provides a song by way of entertainment. The way things are at the moment, England hasn't a chance of winning! Edit: Despite that....I still love it! |
