Question about the movies ML was in

I am wondering if anyone could help me out on which are the greatest movies to own that Meat starred in?
I have Roadie,Blacktop and Pelts but am wondering about other movies?
Does he just have bit parts in these other movies or appear in them quite a bit?
I found Rustin and Black Dog online along with others that star William H. Macy,Lacey Chabert and others and am curious as to his role in these movies as no real plot was offered in the advertisement.
Any descriptions and recommendations would be appreciated because I have to get my Christmas and birthday list together and I would like to know which ones are a must see, etc.

Thanks! :D

I think you should take the skimpy list, as alot of movies Meat has been in are poor productions, regardless if Meat was in the film or not. It's a shame he is not in more big budget movies like Fight Club, but maybe with touring he just does not have the time, which surprises me, as he regards himself as an actor first over music performer. Actually, with his health not being the best over the last few years, maybe he should really concentrate more on movies, now than live shows, at least we will get to see him on the big screen. :D

maybe it's not his descision...

Jayd 07 Dec 2008 14:43

In what sense, about performing live, or what movies he appears in. If you meant the first part, I don't know, Meat comes across to me as a person, who will not be told what to do, if he wants to quit touring he will, maybe it's the feeling he gets when on stage what draws him back to performing live. Obviously, if you meant the second, unless a director or producer wants him in their paticular movie, then he has no choice unless they ask, but I gotta say, he has been in some real turkeys, and Meat himself is not a bad actor by any means. To me, he is one of them who can play a villain really well, and would love to see him do more of these roles, but better movies instead of those really bad cheesy B movies.

Just to add, i don't think all his movies are bad, but there are some awful ones.

:D

Canadian Cutie 07 Dec 2008 16:38

Thanks everyone for your suggestions and info!
I have gone with Rustin and Black Dog so far and will look around for other ones.I have been looking on eBay for them because sometimes you can get a better deal with powersellers.
I also just wanted to apologise for posting my question in the wrong forum.
I am new here so I am learning now where each question or topic goes in which forum.

Thanks!! :D

I simply meant that he might not get as many roles offered as he'd like.

That is most probably the situation. Think Meat Loaf, think more Rock Music than acting, that's what it is most probably, and it's a shame, because he is alot better actor than alot of others I see in bigger budget movies. :(

Albeit I am pretty sure it is complete...

America is INFESTED with movie actors wannabes...it is actually a compliment to Meat that he was in as many movies as he was...PLUS...somehow we don't have older people...actors here change with a speed where you don't even get to know them...and young replace old before you get to know any of them...and only until recently people in show business in their late thirties were considered OLD...now...it's changing a bit now...but afraid it is just too late for people like Meat...if you haven't made yourself a big name in your young years...slim to none chances you will make it in more advanced age...

 There's probably a lot of truth in that.
Meat IS recognised first and formost as a singer.
It's like Randy Travis, he's been in approx 30 films, but when you hear his name you think "singer" and I imagine that's not an easy thing for someone to get over who is looking for more movie roles.

When a director is thinking who he can cast for a film, the last thing he's going to think is "I wonder if Steve Tyler facies doing some acting?"

Meat has said though that he will turn down a part if the character doesn't challenge him in some way, and that he's had a lot of offers he never took, so you never know what he had the option to play

mszee 07 Dec 2008 17:29

Plenty of singers who are also in the movies...Elvis, David Bowie, Roger Daltrey, Frank Sinatra...so the argument is pretty invalid...

I wonder what was the challenge playing a bus driver in Spice something movie...hmm...

RadioMaster 07 Dec 2008 17:29

Meat says a lot when the day is long though...

I am pretty sure that some of the movies he has made he actually came first to mind of the casting director...he is a character actor...not precisely mainstream...

But I do have to agree with your statement...until recently I completely forgot that he was in Wayne's World...so...the last time it was on TV, I got myself a large popcorn and settled on the couch...ummm...missed first few minutes though...LOL...

RadioMaster 07 Dec 2008 18:18

i agree, but that's certainly not the case with all of his movies.
There are quotes of several directors (including David Fincer and the guy who made Extreme Dating) who actually say that they definitely wanted Meat in their movie.

Exactly my point...he must have been the first choice in most of the movies he has made...but you do need a particular part to get him into the movie in the first place...he always had this particular look to him...

RadioMaster 07 Dec 2008 19:03

my simple guess would be that the bigger his part, the more they wanted him in particular to play the role.

mszee 07 Dec 2008 19:04

I would probably disagree...For example, I think people at Wayne's World definitely wanted to get him in even for a few minutes or so...

RadioMaster 07 Dec 2008 19:10

really? now I would have thought the exact opposite. His whole airtime is probably less than 30 seconds, it doesnt really matter who you get to play that role...

EXACTLY...so why Meat? Because they wanted him to appear in the movie, even if it was just for a moment...

It often happens here...somebody EXTREMELY famous is given a walk in part...like a waiter in the restaurant...usually that movie is done by friends and it signifies some kind of an inside joke...

The Flying Mouse 07 Dec 2008 19:21

 In a sense, a very small cameo can be much more effective.

For example, remember.....

"Excuse me, Your Holiness," says the driver," Would you please take your seat so we can leave?"
"Well, to tell you the truth," says the Pope, "they never let me drive at the Vatican when I was a Cardinal, and I'd really like to drive today."
"I'm sorry, Your Holiness, but I cannot let you do that. I'd lose my job! And what if something should happen?" protests the driver, wishing he'd never gone to work that morning.
"Who's going to tell? Besides, there might be something extra in it for you," says the Pope with a smile.
Reluctantly, the driver gets in the back as the Pope climbs in behind the wheel. The driver quickly regrets his decision when, after exiting the airport, the Pontiff floors it, accelerating the limo to 105 mph. (Remember, he's German.)
"Please slow down, Your Holiness!" pleads the worried driver, but the Pope keeps the pedal to the metal until they hear sirens. "Oh, dear God, I'm gonna lose my license -- and my job!" moans the driver.
The Pope pulls over and rolls down the window as the cop approaches, but the cop takes one look at him, goes back to his motorcycle, and gets on the radio.
"I need to talk to the Chief," he says to the dispatcher. The Chief gets on the radio and the cop tells him that he's stopped a limo going a hundred and five.
"So bust him," says the Chief.
"I don't think we want to do that, he's really big," said the cop.
The Chief exclaimed," All the more reason!"
"No, I mean really important," said the cop with a bit of persistence.
The Chief then asked, "Who ya got there, the Mayor?"
Cop: "Bigger."
Chief: " The Governor?"
Cop: "Bigger."
Chief: "The President?"
Cop: "Bigger."
"Well," said the Chief, "Who is it?"
Cop: "I think it's God!"
The Chief is stumped, " You been drinking, John? "
Cop: " No Sir."
Chief : " Then what makes you think it's God?"
Cop: "He's got the Pope as a chauffeur."

You MUST be something special if you have MEAT LOAF in a bit part opening the door for you.

hold on...youre talking about getting him as himself, so the name appears in the credits and his fans will recognize him and see the movie. I was talking about directors who cast him as an actor to play a character. In that sense I repeat my thought, that the bigger his role is, the more likely it is that the director wanted especially him to play the part.

He saw Meat's picture on the cover of his autobiography through a shop window and thought "THAT'S The Lizard".

Precisely

Meat's apparently filming 2 movies at the moment, he said recently. But Focus, Trapped, 51st State, A Hole In One and Blacktop are pretty good.

It was indeed but I like odd movies.:lurk: But I don't know what to think of the villain. On the one hand he's a ruthless, despicable killer, on the other hand he appears to be a quite likeable guy. Maybe I'm just biased because I'm a Meat Loaf fan but I even felt sorry for him in the end. :?

Yeah but so was Rocky Horror and don't even get me started on Fight Club. But being odd doesn't mean it was bad though, just different.

Carole

RadioMaster 09 Dec 2008 14:04

yeah but those two were good.

carole 09 Dec 2008 14:07

I didn't say they weren't good, just that they were different.

Carole

RadioMaster 09 Dec 2008 16:58

that a movie is odd or different doesnt mean it has to be good. (speaking of HIO here, which was in my opinion poor)

What I have seen the good and the bad............everyone is a critic.......
Good Movies
I liked Black Dog, Leap of Faith, Roadie, Black Top, Formal 51, Rocky Horror, Waynes World, Everything that rises, Pelts, Dead Man's Guntwlight zone Gettysburg episode, Extreme Dating (corny but funny), Fight Club,The Ballad of Lucy Whipple, Trapped, Crazy in Alabama, The Mighty, Tales from the Crypt, & Nash Bridges.

Bad Movies
Motorama was weird, Bloodrayne sucked (video games shouldn't be turned into movies) A Hole in One (strange & has a weird monkey in it) & Wishcraft, .
