Rocky Horror Picture Show Remake?

Found here

MTV has announced plans to remake the 1975 cult classic "The Rocky Horror Picture Show."

The original film is considered by many to be the ultimate cult classic, and it will be interesting to see how diehard fans react to news of a remake in the works. It starred Tim Curry, Susan Sarandon, Barry Bostwick and Meatloaf.

Since its release, the film has grossed $140 million in domestic box office – thanks to midnight showings that have ran for three decades and the loyal fans who return to see it many times.

Variety reports Lou Adler (who executive produced the original film) has partnered with BermanBraun and Fox Television Studios for the remake.

The film will use the original screenplay by Jim Sharman and Richard O'Brien, and may also feature music not included in the original film.

Fox is in talks with BSkyB and Sky Movies to co-finance and distribute the film.

So far, a director and cast have not been announced, and a time table for getting the film into production has yet to be put in place.

In Variety, Adler stated: "I'd like to see it shown a year from this coming Halloween, but that's up to MTV."

The 1st Battalion Parachute Regiment.

samurai7 24 Jul 2008 17:13

I'm game! :p

It would be good to see who the cast is :-)

They'll be in camouflage so they'll all look the same anyway.

Oh, you're not talking about Samurai's "audition" process ...?

Dave

No I was just saying. It would be interesting to see who comes and replaces Meat and Tim.

Regarding Sean's Audition though, would be good to see a mlukfc member in the film ;-) If that was ever to happen....

I wonder how you'd get an audition anyhow? Be living in the US perhaps? lol

bit of sarcasm gone to waste there, poor

Yes, shame. I did have another joke lined up about an "dishonourable discharge" but I don't think I'll bother

Dave

mszee 24 Jul 2008 20:03

Well, that's a damn stupid idea and it probably won't take off anyway...

With this said...I did appreciate the sarcasm...especially the last bit of it...LOL

RadioMaster 24 Jul 2008 20:15

hasnt there been rumours on this been floating around for years?

I seem to recall that Marilyn Manson wanted to play Frank N. Furter...

The remake wont hurt the original movie....so bring it on!! Might be good, might be bad, but we cant lose on this one...

PS: Id love to see Meat return as Dr. Scott

I can quarantee right now it won't be any good...this is what happens when you try to re-make cult classics...

Tend to agree with you, and it will also be completely over-hyped in to the deal.

And that's why I think the entire thing is much ado about nothing...They've been talking for year and years now about remake of The Secret Life of Walter Mitty...whatever happened to that I wonder...oh right...everybody signed up pulled out one by one...

MeatGrl1 24 Jul 2008 20:36

I still hate Sing-A-Long-A ruining the RHPS showings, you don't go to these nights and sit and sing along, the whole fun is to dress up, shout at the screen and dance along to the Timewarp, not sit there and read the lyrics !!!
Never forgiven them for doing that and so my RHPS nights are over :(.

This has been a rumour since as far back as 2001 and I can say that we as die hards don't want it, a few of the original members have sadly passed on now and I just think it'll be disrespectful and wrong to try and remake something that was so promionant of it's time.

The Flying Mouse 24 Jul 2008 20:50

 The only members of the original cast I know of who have passed away are Charles Gray and Johnathan Adams.

I can't see this being a success
RHPS is a classic, and I can't see anyone else bringing something more to it.

On the other hand, it might draw more attention to the original, which is never a bad thing

you might be right.....but we wont know until its out.

Worst case youll go to the cinema and be bored for two hours....which isnt exactly the end of the world.

Im staying optimistic :D

Going to the cinema indeed would be the worst case for me...LOL...that is one movie I will definitely watch on DVD...so that I can turn it off and go do something more productive if necessary at a nominal price...

~Helen~ 24 Jul 2008 21:36

Aah but there's the fun of dressing up if you go out to see it...sure you can dress up at home, but some of the entertainment value is taken out if you don't have to cross busy town centres in RH gear...

MeatGrl1 24 Jul 2008 21:39

I remember seeing the show in 2003 at Bromley, I was walking back to the hotel with one of my friends, we were both Frank, I was Floorshow and he was the caped one and some person decided to pinch my arse  !! And someone asked if we were a couple, all in all we found it very funny !!
And picture the whole front row doing Wild And Untamed Thing at the end , I miss the show it was alot of fun. Miss the movie showings that bit more though :(.

Very true. Even if it is quite a good remake it will just get trashed by everyone simply because its not the original. Leave it alone and try making a decent version of a film that flopped first time round

Going to the cinema for a coupl eof hours the night this is premiered is probably the best option, since it appears that the remake will be a "made for TV" special ...

Pudding 25 Jul 2008 11:10

A little bit offtopic I know but I only found out the other day that Brian May once played the same part as Meat Loaf 'Eddie' on stage.

Pud

Getting visions of the nightmare that was the pointless remake of Psycho.

It may be good...for some reason I could see Johnny Depp taking the lead role....and me playing Eddie:shock:

Wario 25 Jul 2008 13:15

wonder if meat will play doc. scott? :|

djfierce 31 Jul 2008 11:16

i highly doubt he would do a remake but who's to say, guess it depends how much he wants the cash.

The original never did much for me so i wont be getting too excited about this either ;)

Yea I just recently was allowed to watch the entire movie and 99% made me feel I was in a 1960's porno movie

that 15 was Meat's bit and I'm very distrought the ycut the "Whew!" from the CD soundtrack ....... Gonna beat whoever mixed it Out :kickass:

Kinda glad Meat wasn't in the entire movie, just for the three minute Hot patootie song ..... seeing him in a g-strap would make the most flamboyant person shudder

(Note: i love that kickass smilie and will try to incorperate it into any post I contribute from now on)

MeatGrl1 14 Aug 2008 02:56

Please don't....

I take it you have not seen the stage show photos, they are interesting .

mszee 14 Aug 2008 04:32

Definition of cult classic...

A work of fiction that is extremely popular with a select audience but may or may not be successful at the time of the work's original publication/presentation...

Thus not everybody knows about Killer Klowns or Killer Tomatoes...just like not everybody likes or even understands Rocky Horror Show...

The only difference between those and Rocky Horror Show was that Rocky debuted at least 4 actors which subsequently became very successful and very famous...audience participation didn't hurt it either...

I like the movie but I can see how some will not just NOT like it but even hate it...

mszee 14 Aug 2008 04:33

P.S. Movie did ruin Tim Curry's career and he can't stand even remembering being in that movie...

amethyst 14 Aug 2008 09:27

Have to say I dont think it ruined his career at all, he was great in Annie and fantastic in Clue (in my opinion anyway lol) ~ and if you read:- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tim_Curry it seems he's accepted it for what it was now.

ames xx

That's a real shame, just yesterday I said to Andy that I was pleased that if they insist on remaking RHPS then at least Richard O'Brien would keep it true to the feel of the original if he was involved :? I may have jinxed it :? !

Well would you like to be asked about fishnets every interview you did after that ?!? That is why he's kept out of all the anniversarys and stuff. But Tim Curry's career has not been hurt by it, he's had much success with films such as amethyst has said with Clue and Annie, two of my favourites btw and recently did a successful stint in Westend's Spamalot. He has also appeared in Terry Pratchett's Colour Of Magic so to say it's damaged his career is not true, Tim's thriving  :)).

When you were posting it...did you count on fingers how many movies did you list and in how many years did he make it? Just curious...

Spamalot was, in fact, his big comeback...and that's when he gave interviews here saying that he was absolutely blacklisted and it was one of the biggest mistakes of his life...I saw him on Broadway and he was terrific...I was lucky enough to see the original cast...

Playing transvestite now is nothing...everybody seems to be doing it...back then...not so much...
