Bat Out Of Hell SACD - Released

I know lots of people would have missed it when it came out, I know I did. I've also seen copies at high prices dotted around the place. We've managed to get a decision on a re-issue and it'll be out on monday. I'm not overly sure if anyone else is taking it though. I've managed to get it down to £13.99 (RRP £18.99).

Any interested parties can order from the link in my sig.

From Sony...

isnt the sacd the one that you need a special player for??

RadioMaster 11 Jun 2008 11:45

yep, mostly one connected to a dolby sorround system. some dvd players play them as well.

daveake 11 Jun 2008 11:45

Yes. Though there's at least one DVD player that also does SACD.

Really need to get my backside into gear and decorate the front room so the rest of the speakers can go up.

Looks like it didn't sell ... maybe a starting price of £80, and a buy-it-now of £110, were a tad too much

duke knooby 12 Jun 2008 18:01

is this the multi channel sacd?? is it a hybrid disc??

Kev 14 Jun 2008 12:49

As far as I know, its whatever the first release was.

Kev 18 Jun 2008 15:27

'you are holding the definitive version of this classic album. All titles in the mastersound series are produced to the highest possible standard. The latest sonic technologies and state of the art equipment, plus intensive archival research to find the original masters assures a listening experience that puts you in the studio with the artist himself'

Thats from the back of this version, its the gold disk version of Bat Out Of Hell and comes with a fold out poster/booklet with all the notes etc!

Can't actually believe this is the one I've almost bought many times before at much much more! :)

meatloaf-unofficial 18 Jun 2008 15:43

did the master's actually go up in a fire??? or is this a "story" the seller was trying to use to make mega bucks??

Diane 18 Jun 2008 15:50

That sounds like a re-issue of the 24 kt. gold 20 bit digital master collector's edition or have they now released it as an SACD?

The price is good. I've still got the price tag on my copy and I paid £13.20 for it in 1993 VAT free.

Diane

LucyK! 18 Jun 2008 15:52

Am I reading right that the gold BOOH is £13.99? I bought mine in HMV in Edinburgh the week before I was due to meet ML in '99 and it was £25!

Diane 18 Jun 2008 15:56

I saw them for sale at £20+ in England during the 90s. I was very lucky at the time to get mine at the price I did from a local record store.

Diane

LucyK! 18 Jun 2008 15:58

I bought mine to take to my first M&G, I feel robbed! Funnily enough I watched a great feature on TV a few weeks back about the tax free shopping in Guernsey!

Kev 18 Jun 2008 15:59

Yep, it's the gold disk SACD version. We're the only company I think that has taken it as I've pressed them hard for a re-issue.

If someone wants me to text them some pix to upload, message me your num etc :)

So, to get this clear, for the anoraky completist collectors amongst us (who, me?), this is a gold disc SACD release, which is therefore a new release of BOOH (the previous mastersound gold disk being a good old fashioned CD, and the previous SACD release being a standard looking CD, but playable only via SACD capable players)?

samurai7 18 Jun 2008 16:13

I'm confused. Is it deffo an SACD or is it the Sony Super-Bitmapped gold disc from the '90s? I got that one for £17.99 in '95 or thereabouts.

That's what had me puzzled too Andy.

Diane

LucyK! 18 Jun 2008 16:17

As I'm reading it you'd end up with three separate things - the gold disc from the 1990s, the SACD Bat album, and a gold SACD album? Have I got it?!

Kev 18 Jun 2008 16:18

I think I'm as confussed as the rest now! I've pullled it from sale at the moment.

I've mailed the guy who has been sorting this for me at Sony BMG. Should a SACD play on a normal CD player? I've put this in, and it works...

The notes I have state this is a SACD version... the packaging doesn't say anything about SACD but goes on about Mastersound.

Monstro 18 Jun 2008 16:22

I thought SACD's played on normal players but only played in stereo, you need a certain player to get all the channels

AndyK 18 Jun 2008 16:25

An SACD should contain a 2 channel stereo mix ... does the actual disc have the "Compact Disc Audio" logo on it? As well as the multi-channel audio mix.

To hear the Super Audio CD (mulitchannel) recording you need the specific player.

Sounds to me as if it's a re-release of the mastersound godl disc, which is a standard audio CD, not the multichannel SACD.

LucyK! 18 Jun 2008 16:25

You know what, why don't we all stick to vinyl

I believe only some SACD's will work in a standard CD player but only in stereo obviously. You need an SACD player for 5.1 surround sound.

The Couldn't Have Said It Better SACD plays in a standard player but the Bat Out Of Hell one doesn't.

Diane

Kev 18 Jun 2008 16:29

It's got
SDRM
SACD
SACEM
SGDL

below that the compact disk logo

Black vinyl, coloured vinyl, picture discs, shaped picture discs, audiophile pressings, picture sleeves, gatefold sleeves, foldout poster sleeves ...................... and we can't play any of them on the move! :lmao:

There's no way I'd part with my record collection though!

Diane

Kev 18 Jun 2008 16:39

does anyone else have the gold disk to hand? it mentions SACD on the right side on this disk...

I've got the gold disk in front of me now. It doesn't say SACD on the disc itself. The back of the insert says MasterSound and SBM (super bit mapping).

So it would seem the new CD effectively isn't so much a re-issue but a new release.

Diane

Kev 18 Jun 2008 16:49

I'm getting our audio expert over tonight to have a good look at it, he's said if 'SACD' is on the disk then that is what it is. But he'll have a look tonight and let me know tomorrow :)

daveake 18 Jun 2008 19:07

The next thing we need to know, Kevin, is whether it's a stereo or 5.1 surround SACD.

100% spot on... only a hybrid disc will play in both types of player, as it has the cd layer, which will play in any cd player, and the sacd layer which will only play on a sacd compatible player, as stated above, the sacd may by in stereo, or multi channel... however most home theatre kits this past 5 years have been sacd compatible anyway... (especially anything by sony or philips as they invented the format (and pioneer, cause they're great lol))

RadioMaster 18 Jun 2008 19:22

good old fashioned logic tells me that if the disc and cover say SACD then it IS a SACD.

could we get any pictures kev?

duke knooby 18 Jun 2008 21:18

only numbers i can see on this 90's release is ek64404 on the disc itself... (not just my first meat loaf cd... but my first cd ever lol)

duke knooby 18 Jun 2008 21:23

and for those bargain hunters out there...

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-lis...U/ref=dp_olp_2

low item price :-)

Kev 19 Jun 2008 10:40

I'm working on some photos, the cam on my phone is pretty crap though. Gonna sort some when I get home and have them tomorrow hopefully!

RJ, the disk says 'SACD' but the case doesn't. There's no proper booklet in there explaining anything either, its like a fold out poster of the album cover on one side and the other side has all the credits and lyrics etc.

The Amazon one is a joke, I uploaded our version at £29.99 but pulled it with the confusion over whats what!

The vinyl replica version is available again, its basically the BOOH cd where one side looks like a vinyl, its pretty cool too. I paid £13 from amazon market place a few months back, not impressed as we now have it again, and much cheaper.

Down the right hand side of the disk it has

Epic logo
4804112 - cat num
a square box with SACEM along the top
down the left SACD
down the right SGDL
and in the middle SDRM

Below that the compact disk logo

then LC00199

then 01-480411-01

4804112000

finally the clevland logo

Well at least Sony are putting that back on again now after the years of legal battles that Steve Popovich won!

Kev 19 Jun 2008 10:54

On that note, I think there was only the release of the bat CD which doesn't have 'Songs By Jim Steinman' on the front that didn't have the clevland logo?

RadioMaster 19 Jun 2008 11:00

did you try to put it into a dvd player with surround sound? many dvd players can play SACD's and if not, youd either get the info its a normal CD, or an error message, which would mean its a SACD.
