Aspen Miller

Hi Folks

I've never posted on here and to be honest, i only joined in order to get a look at the set list before the Glasgow gig. However, i've really enjoyed reading everyone's reviews of the tour and seeing the photos.

Do you folks go to all the gigs on the UK tour? I think some of you must as it seems to be the same people posting for some of the gigs.

Anyway, i thought the Glasgow gig was amazing. Saw Meat twice before and thought he was excellent the first time (Greatest Hits tour) and poor the second (just after his health scare). This time he was incredible though! Very powerful and it was great to hear Objects in the Rearview Mirror live. Highlight had to Blind as a Bat, absolutely fantastic!

I was really disappointed when i heard that Patti Russo wasn't touring with him this time and even more so when i found out that it was some young lass who was a singer at Disneyland or something! I WAS WRONG. I think Aspen Miller is incredible. OK, she's no Patti, but it does seem to freshen up the whole show in my opinion.

Add to that the fact that she is gorgeous and i think Meat is on to a winner with Aspen! I just wanted to start a thread which showed some appreciation of Aspen.

That is all i guess.......

Benny 29 May 2007 09:32

Hi fat bat! Welcome aboard:))

Aspen is great! They do work well together.

Ankie 29 May 2007 12:50

Moved to Lost boys and Golden Girls thread.

Heli 29 May 2007 13:35

Thing with Aspen is, is that she's not just anyone....the torch was pretty much passed down from Patti Russo to here...

...And Brian May approves, so she's more than welcome to the Neverland Express, in my opinion! She's a fantastic actress and an amazing singer!

She's no Patti, but she's fab, I think! :)

JanT 29 May 2007 15:57

For a liddle thing she has a mighty powerfull voice. Pocket dynamite I'd say.

MissAsh 30 May 2007 00:35

I agree with all of the above, I had a few doubts until about 30 seconds into her beginning to sing at the Glasgow gig, completely blew me away. She's fantastic.

Mick Loaf 30 May 2007 00:51

I also think she's awesome!

I met Aspen in Manchester and she's a very very nice lady. Patti Russo was most definately a giant part of Meat Loaf's musical life for a long while. However times move on, faces change, and with new faces beings a breath of fresh air!

I really admire Patti Russo (she was always very pleasant to talk with) for her talent. But, as the history of the Neverland Express dictates, Patti was one of a number of leading ladies.

That role, playing next to Meat, demands some kinda presence! Aspen has, with her predecessors, risen to it and admirably - not in the shoes of anyone else, but as herself. I have nothing but admiration and respect for any talent that can put themselves next to one of Rock's most bombastic Artists and pull off one heck of a performance with it.

Good Luck Aspen - Welcome to Music History!

Totally agree with SteinLoaf

Deffinatly hope to see her in the band if they tour next year.
I too was a bit sketchy about her before i first saw her live but having seen her with Meat twice now, at RAH and Sheffield I am certain she is a good asset to the Neverland Express.

Keep Rockin'!

AndrewG 03 Jun 2007 02:58

Totally disagree. Especially on the comment about Patti. I think if you take Meat's musical career she should be classed as much more than a "leading lady" in the Neverland Express.

Patti was one of a kind in my opinion. Indeed Meat has had and now has other leading ladies in his band but none have and probably will ever come close to how Patti's stage presence / acting and vocal abilities helped Meat during his shows. She is funny / warm / interesting etc etc. Pretty much all other leading ladies in Meat's band lack exactly that in my opinion.
I find there is a real sense of "over-acting" by pretty much all other female co-singers Meat has worked with. It just isn't the same.

I'm really not impressed by the leading ladies Meat has in his band now (ironically while his musicians are actually fantastic)
For example the way Aspen sings the line: "sooner or later you will be screwing arouuuuunndd" in AFL is just plain awful to my ears plus Raven's lack of convincing acting has really taken away any meaning of the song when I now see/hear it live.
Don't want to ramble on but I have to add that Marion Raven's britney spears-esque voice is not quite suited to Meat's music and why she has been plugged so much by the record company to be on Bat 3 and this tour is something that I think beggers belief (espeically when you consider the two other co-singers on Bat 3 are in a completely different league). Instead they should have backed Patti imo. :(

rick 11 Jun 2007 12:33

Having finally got round to sorting through over 200 photo's
this is for all who are suffering withdrawl symptoms from ASPEN lol

emma811981 28 Jun 2007 15:19

I think Aspen is fantastic saw the concert in shefield this year and they work together well plus seen loads on vids on youtube she seems to get some rather negative comments but i think shes ace

wolfy35 29 Jun 2007 12:26

I must admit to being a little torn over my opinion of Aspen. I agree that she has a fantastic voice and an immense stage presence but I also agree with AndrewG's comment about the way she sings the screwing around line from AFL does really spoil the whole song for me.

Think in short IMHO Aspen is as good as any of the other lead female vocalists that have ever been with Meat but.....

Patti was never to me just a lead female vocal she was and still is the ONLY female singer that rose above being a supporting voice and reached the level of being Meats equal. They worked so well together both in the way they moved around each other on stage and the way their voices complimented each other it was just so special it should not been allowed to end.

Tim 29 Jun 2007 20:26

love the pics of her!! she is very cute!!

The Evolution 08 Sep 2007 15:41

I have to admit that I was totally wrong about Aspen Miller is previous posts. She is an amazing talent and wonderful to watch. Please keep up the good work. C

angel eyes 13 Sep 2007 04:05

Can I be really stupid here (or in other words just my normal self) and ask if anyone knows why Patti left?

Although I think Aspen has a good voice, for me she doesn't yet have the stage presence of Patti or the rapport with Meat that Patti had. This of course may come in time.

Has Patti left for good or does she just have other work committments?

Answering that truthfully on the forum would probably envoke the wrath of the Meat Police and probably a banning.

I'm sure you'd look good in handcuffs Pud:D

The easiest thing to suggest would be that Patti is long overdue a solo career and that after 13 years or so it was time for a change.

Bands change their lineups all the time and especially with as big a backing band as Meat Loaf has it only makes sense that it will change.

The other thing to take note of is that a show can go stale with the same performers doing the same songs in the same way and in fairness how much more of a surprise can you get from Meat singing 'I would do anything for love but i won't do that' to Patti?

Aspen seems good enough and her style is not that much different from Ms Russo although i think Patti has a better voice and a more rock orientated style.

Ma.Ra 13 Sep 2007 15:00

As far as I can say Patti did not have solo plans.

mszee 13 Sep 2007 15:26

Have to agree with AndrewG...

The Evolution 13 Sep 2007 17:55

I was unsure of Aspen in the beginning but now she has made the position her own, adding her own little bits to songs. In all honesty, I genuinely believe Aspen is far better in Anything For Love than Patti. I absolutely adore that song now. She has voice of an angel.

RadioMaster 13 Sep 2007 18:20

it's a little unfair comparing them after half a tour. We'd have to see how she'd do after 14 years, but I'm afraid he wont tour for that long anymore, lol.

You took the words right out of my mouth.
Aspen is not only looking better than Patti, she sends the songs to another level. Paradise & Anything with Patti were so boring in the end, now it's a lot better!:-)

Nope they' re still boring  That had nothing to do with Patti lol, we've just heard them to many times :-P

RadioMaster 14 Sep 2007 20:31

especially when it's repeating itself every show of the tour.

what was that? He's a member of the amazon street protection society for party planning?

LucyK! 14 Sep 2007 20:36

Paradise definitely had a new lease of life with it in May but then I don't know whether that was down to Aspen or the fact that it was a new story and therefore would have been good to watch regardless of the singer...

Either way though I'd seen enough of it by the end of tour, and I'm disappointed it's no longer at the beginning of the setlist where it's done and out of the way to enjoy the rest of the show

24K 14 Sep 2007 21:05

I really like Aspen, she has a tremendous voice,i wasn't sure at first but after seeing her several times i gotta say i think she is great!

Pudding 16 Sep 2007 03:45

I lost interest in Paradise many moons ago, it bores the crap out of me now along with Lemon and especially since it was performed at nearly every Bat3 promotional show

As for Aspen, she's nice enough but from what I've heard (which isn't much granted) she sounds a bit like a falsetto chipmunk. Why CC wasn't put into the frontline for the duet is a bit of a mystery. Perhaps they were looking for a mini-Patti.

Patti has officially left, reasons we still do not know and mabe never will unless Meat or Patti want to share that information. Patti has recently made her own as a solo artist recently at Italy's Umbria and Portteria festivals, by the clips and pics she looked in her element and seems to be at home on the stage so I think we will hear and see alot more of her in the future but in the mean time check out her myspace.
As for Aspen Miller I think she has a great stage presence but it's a different kind, I think she is very dominant and mabe more so than Patti was but it's good, I would hate Aspen to mimick Patti to the last detail, Aspen has taken the songs and made them her own and for me that makes it.
But again this is my opinion too.

Porretta not Portteria ;)

We may not know why, but by reading Patti's blog i'd say she's very unhappy about it all :? Maybe one day she will set the record straight, then all the debating can stop

It would be nice to have the facts out there.......it would perhaps allow the speculation and confusion to finally end and the healing process for all involved to begin. Ironic that it was exactly one year ago Patti announced her departure from the band. Of course we're still waiting for the official word from the ML camp on that subject :-P

Pudding 16 Sep 2007 23:09

The debating will never stop, because if the facts came out (whatever they may be) some people would struggle to logically rationalise them and the truth would become unacceptable.

Reality is sometimes stranger than fiction.

Deb 16 Sep 2007 23:11

Ain't that the truth Pud

duke knooby 16 Sep 2007 23:12

or is it fact??????????????????????????? lol

RadioMaster 16 Sep 2007 23:20

Im pretty sure it wasnt really her decision to go.
Just think one minute here:
She left a sure contract for backing at a 18 month world arena tour (not to mention the money) to play two or three little festivals? nah
AFAIK she IS working on solo stuff, but not in a dimension that would justify leaving before the last tour, when she easily could have waited one more year. 13 or 14 years, does that really make a difference?
I think its obvious that some things have been going on there we dont know of and (as sources obviously want to keep it to themselves) probably wont do.

Though it says a lot about her that she's maintained a dignified silence

citydweller 16 Sep 2007 23:24

Truth is in the eye of the beholder. It was the truth according to Patti that caused her decision to leave, and therefore Patti's truth I'd like to see out there. Her perception isn't really up for debate.

Pudding 17 Sep 2007 01:48

I agree, the perception of truth will always be in the eye of the beholder and unless backed up by irrefutable fact will be subject to debate.

The only facts that I can see at the moment are, Patti either left voluntarily or unvoluntarily Neverland Express at a time that completely makes no sense after 13+ years of touring with Meat Loaf, which would undoubtably be his last world tour.

That to me makes no sense that she'd just up and leave for no reason. And I think we can safely conclude, it wasn't because she had a lucrative solo career waiting.

Surely spliting the thread would be better than just telling people to stay on topic. Something I was actually going to ask for a mod to do last night as I thought this was unfair on Aspen

dont know if this is generally known, but I just found out that Aspen used to do the voice over for cartoons.
