Has New Zealand ever had a similar earthquake before? Is it true there could be another one soon? incase I planned on going to the World Cup next year. I don't want to get myself caught up in something like an earthquake? :yep:

Anything along these fault lines is at most risk, so yeah NZ is not in a good place with regards to that, but there are many places around the world like that. If you are not going to live or visit somewhere because of that it's up to you but then you can also step out in the street and get hit by a bus anywhere. Apparently the chances of dying in an earthquake are less than by means of legal execution!

Thread re-opened following a purge of the off topic stuff. Please stay on topic.

Cheers Andy.

Although it's extremely nice that people are/were concerned for me and my family, the long term rammifications of the earthquake in Christchurch is Meats possible tour here.:(

He's only ever been known to go to 3 places when here, Auckland, Wellington & Christchurch. Since Auckland & Wellington are on the North Island and Christchurch is on the South Island, if the Christchurch gig is cancelled due to the earthquake, I'm kinda stuffed at best. Also there is the possibility that if he can't play in Christchurch then he might scrap New Zealand tour altogether.

I consider myself pretty fortunate that I've lived in places not affected by floods, bushfires or cyclones.

The only way he would cancel a tour is if the venues were destroyed? or if there were more earthquakes coming? Meat would like to lift the spirits of his New Zealand fans I'm sure; so he'll come!!!!....Fear won't stop him. ;)

Evil One 19 Sep 2010 23:42

He's going to NZ just for Pudding's barbecue.

More stupid irrational nonsense from you I see

Meat may want to come but structural engineers might refuse him because of the safety of the public. Also if there's a high risk factor involved then Meats insurance might refuse him to come. If there's only 3 shows for New Zealand and 1 of them is cancelled, then I don't know if that'll create a big enough profit to justify the big trip. Not unless they're going to charge a daft amount of money per tickets, which in this economical climate isn't going to go down too well.

Have the venues been damaged? Are there more earthquakes coming? Those are the two most important questions that need to be answered before getting into insurance details. If things are fine in New Zealand then he will go.

Pudding 20 Sep 2010 01:23

Getting into a conversation with you is like playing eye-spy with my 3 year old, except he makes more sense.

No I'm just saying there is no reason for Meat Loaf not to go to New Zealand if there is no more earthquakes coming and the venues aren't damaged. That's all I was saying.

There's always earthquakes, you can't predict when one is or isn't going to happen, a bit of common sense can tell you that Click HERE to see the latest quake drum.

I have absolutely no idea what damage has been caused to whatever venue Meat had planned for Christchurch. What I do know is that it'll be very low down on the priority list to get fixed whilst they're trying to rebuild the infrastructure for parts of the city that has been severly affected. There's also 1000's of homes that are going to have to be either knocked down or remain uninhabitable for quite some time, they're going to take priority.

So yeah, there's plenty of reasons for Meat not to come.

But there is also plenty of reasons for him to come too. Everyone has to take a chance in life; there was an earthquake but that doesn't mean the whole country has to shut down and not allow shows to go on. Everything has to go on. Onwards and upwards as the saying goes. Having artists coming can only help the New Zealand economy.

Here's the latest quake drum picture for Christchurch area.

As you can see there's still quite a lot of activity.

Monstro 20 Sep 2010 11:59

Stupid question time Pud, would it be right to assume that the threat/risk of earthquake would affect cancellation insurance for events /concerts etc?

Pudding 20 Sep 2010 13:00

It could affect it. Obviously if the tremors increase then there's a strong likelihood that the event could be cancelled, because having a few thousand frightened members of the public all running to the hills at the same time's going to cause a serious problem. Also there's the structural integrity of the venue itself, if the engineers don't think it's safe then there's no event there at all.

I can't imagine an insurance company insuring an event when there's a high risk of payout, and I can't imagine an artist or event organiser holding an event/concert without having insurance.

It's a pity he couldn't do an outdoor concert down there, it would be a lot safer than an indoor building if the tremors were only minor.
