i am also sharing every artical and post about the show on my facebook i have changed my fb cover to the show artwork to advertise the show i so want this to be a success for jim he deserves it after years of working on it :)

Press night? Wonder if Meat or Jimmy will come over for it? No doubt local celebrities (so the Corrie lot, Jeremy Kyle and every other person who is on ITV) will be there.

"Join the eternally young Strat and his wild gang, The Lost, as they roam the streets of Obsidian, a post-apocalyptic Manhattan, ruled by the wicked and tyrannical Falco. When Strat first sets eyes on Falco's daughter, Raven, who has been locked away in the palace towers, he sets out to rescue her from her evil father's clutches in a full throttle tale of teenage love, youthful rebellion and living the rock and roll dream. <--- !!!!

Bat Out of Hell is a breathtaking new musical that features 17 of Meat Loaf's greatest hits including I'd Do Anything for Love, Paradise by the Dashboard Light, You Took the Words Right Out of My Mouth (Hot Summer Night), Dead Ringer For Love, Two Out of Three Ain't Bad, Bat Out of Hell and more."

I knew over 20 would be a lot!!

Extra! Extra!

Cast announced! Jim interviewed!

Read it in the Daily Mail!

anotherday 28 Oct 2016 04:57

Ooooof. Those photos of Jim...Its like whoever took them had no idea how to take a solid photo

letsgotoofar 28 Oct 2016 06:17

I sympathize to a certain extent. I mean one wants to capture Jim, but also they want to get a view of the collection of kooky shit he's got in his Bat Cave, and it's got to be a certain size so the text isn't lost... it's not easy photographing for a specific layout with a specific vision. But it could have been better, yes.

YAAAAAAAAAAAAY!! Exciting to finally have concrete details, confirms London June & July, an article somewhere read that it was running through August, which was wrong. Andrew Polec was also Strat in the workshop - he should know the character inside out by the first performance.

I think the photographer was the journalist?

To celebrate the Box Office opening to the general public, there will be a special live performance by the cast at 5pm on Thursday 3 November outside the London Coliseum in St Martin's Lane.

The world premiere of the long-awaited Jim Steinman's Bat Out of Hell- The Musical will take place in London's West End at the London Coliseum, opening on Tuesday 20 June 2017, following previews from 5 June, for a limited season until 22 July 2017. This follows previews at Manchester Opera House from 17 February to 8 April 2017. The box office for the London Coliseum will open at 5pm on Thursday 3 November. Please visit www.BatOutOfHellMusical.com for more information.

As with many great works of art, the genesis of the Bat Out of Hellalbum occurred across a number of years. One of the songs was written while Steinman was an undergraduate at Amherst College in the late 1960s. In the 1970s, Steinman wrote a theatrical musical that was presented in workshop in Washington D.C. in 1974 and featured many of the songs that would ultimately appear on the Bat Out of Hell album, which was released in 1977.

Bat Out Of Hell became one of the best-selling albums in history, selling over 50 million copies worldwide. 16 years later, Steinman scored again with Bat Out of Hell II: Back Into Hell, which contained the massive hit I Would Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That).

For the stage musical, the legendary and award-winning Jim Steinman has incorporated iconic songs from the Bat Out of Hellalbums, including You Took The Words Right Out Of My Mouth, Bat Out of Hell, I Would Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That) and Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad, as well as two previously unreleased songs, What Part of My Body Hurts the Most and Not Allowed to Love.

Jim Steinman's Bat Out of Hell - The Musical is a romantic adventure about rebellious youth and passionate love, set against the backdrop of a post-cataclysmic city adrift from the mainland. Strat, the forever young leader of The Lost, has fallen for Raven, daughter of Falco, the tyrannical, ruler of Obsidian.

Jim Steinman's Bat Out of Hell - The Musical is produced by David Sonenberg, Michael Cohl, Randy Lennox, Tony Smith
Will the performance be streamed live? I'm sure if they're out in the street there will be videos on social media.

Grrr I'm so HUNGRY to feast on ths show!!

Danny L 02 Nov 2016 16:41

Absolute Classic Rock will be live streaming the event on their Facebook starting at 5pm London time; Thursday November 3rd!

If you're around this will be at London Coliseum, St Martin's Lane in beautiful Covent Garden

I guess this finally answers the question of if Jim has written any new stuff

ThatWriterGuy 03 Nov 2016 19:42

No, that question was answered weeks ago, publicly and directly, by Meat.

rockfenris2005 03 Nov 2016 19:44

He said Jim would never write another song again. It's in one of the articles somewhere. Though Jim IMO need never have written another song after FCOL and the Bat album. Of course I'm glad that he did.

If that guy is singing BODY, i sure as hell hope Meat records it for the record.

For something produced by Jim himself, i was expecting Rob Evan type vocal power.

The guy has A LOT of charisma and loved the clip, just cant see him singing BODY.

Wishing this all the best.

That choreography tho is pretty sloppy, probably due to stage size.

Let's also not forget that this will not reflect the show itself necessarily, this is just what they threw together for the launch.

I attended the launch night in London as I work in Covent Garden so I sneaked out early to get a glimpse. I already have my tickets and I'm very excited for the musical - I thought the lead was really good- a very different vocal to Meat which was probably the point. It's a very young cast and it was a little weird seeing Meat and then hearing someone else do Bat. The Musical certainly feels like We Will Rock You - and if this show can have a slice of that success it would be massive

Really good crowd for the promo by the way- which should be expected considering the location. Many passers by stopping to have a listen.

Meat sounds better to me than he did during the Braver promo. He clearly is in pain with his back. I admire his commitment and dedication for promoting this for Jimmy- he is such a good sport for someone who should be resting up but we know he loves working.

K1ttycat 04 Nov 2016 13:51

Feeling absolutely gutted at the moment.

The Palace Theatre and Opera House in Manchester had a competition on their FB page and the prize was two tickets to the launch on Monday. They were giving away several pairs of tickets. There were 62 replies. I replied and I really spilled my heart out in my answer. Just found out that I didn't win. A few of the winners were fine - gave birth to Bat of Hell but then there was one that said he was on a game show and knew all the answers to questions in the Meat Loaf category - great, can retain info but really a fan? - and another said she was writing her own version of Bat Out of Hell: The Musical and would love to compare the two. Most of the other answers didn't even seem to know what they were trying to win, thinking it was tickets to the show rather than the launch! Nevertheless, very very upset right now. :( Thanks for letting me vent!

Just looked at the Twitter stuff and the AOL Build video, both very nice. Can't wait to see what happens next! Really hoping Meat does Body for the cast album.

Danny L 04 Nov 2016 17:01

We've got a list of songs building from promo:

BAT OUT OF HELL
ANYTHING FOR LOVE
IT'S ALL COMING BACK TO ME NOW
DEAD RINGER FOR LOVE
TWO OUTTA THREE
TOOK THE WORDS
FOR CRYING OUT LOUD
NOT ALLOWED TO LOVE
WHAT PART OF MY BODY HURTS THE MOST
WHO NEEDS THE YOUNG?
SPEAKING IN TONGUES
PARADISE BY THE DASHBOARD LIGHT

12 titles right there - All mentioned as making it in - surely All Revved Up and Heaven Can Wait will be there to cover the whole first album? I'm hoping for Rock n Roll Dreams too

letsgotoofar 04 Nov 2016 17:28

I've got a sneaking suspicion we will know everything in the score, Danny. :P

But more seriously, based on TWG's response to my hope that nothing from Tanz crops up in the show, I think there's a good chance "Objects" will be there (much to my chagrin, but what can you do?).

I know, even the two 'brand-new-never-before-heard songs' but this is not a 'list of what I'd like to see', but rather what's been confirmed in interviews.

I've been keeping tabs, obv more will be added :D

letsgotoofar 04 Nov 2016 17:47

Oh no, I know it's what's been confirmed in interviews and promo, and kudos to us, we've figured out 12 (maybe 13, if I'm right about "Objects") of the 17 songs that are in the show!

dde11678 04 Nov 2016 21:22

letsgotoofar 05 Nov 2016 15:57

Total Eclipse has already been used in another show of Jim's (not, as TWG pointed out, like that would stop him from using it, foolhardy as I think that would be).

Well that and The Endless Appetite are technically different songs, with completely different choruses

ashkent7 07 Nov 2016 15:29

I could be wrong, but I expected pretty much all of Bat and Bat 2 to be included in some form, so up to now what has been confirmed how I would have imagined it.

I would think the rest will be from the remaining Bat/Bat 2 songs (Frying Pan, Just Won't Quit, Lost Boys, All Revved Up, Heaven Can Wait, Everything Louder)

And based on the original website I am still expecting a couple more non Meat songs.

Oh and Love And Death And An American Guitar (Wasted Youth - whichever you prefer) is clearly in there as well.

letsgotoofar 07 Nov 2016 15:31

Quote:

Originally Posted by Danny L (Post 619136)

Completely different choruses, intro, and ending are the only actual differences; the rest are substantially the same song, and if Bat is a success, then the chances of Tanz coming back in English are likely hurt by the elephant in the room that is Jim's recycling.

But, having said that, we'll wait and see.

Danny L 07 Nov 2016 16:02

Surely HEAVEN CAN WAIT and ALL REVVED UP have to be in to make the whole of Bat 1? I can understand stuff being left off Bat 2, that was longer, plus we have All Comin Back, two from BTWA then the two 'new' songs

letsgotoofar 07 Nov 2016 16:11

Well, if memory serves, although we've been told that things have changed, Jim once said on his old blog that there would be 15 songs from Bat I & II (which suggests, to me, all 7 on the first one and 8 from the second) in addition to 3 new ones.

So far, that's one thing that hasn't changed all that much -- we are now hearing there are 17 songs total in the show, 2 of which are new (or "new," depending on what fandom you're in), and we've already identified 15 (16 if you count "Wasted Youth," but I consider that dialogue). I don't think we've got far to go.

So far, the song count (excerpted from Danny's posts) is:

Bat I: BAT OUT OF HELL, TOOK THE WORDS, TWO OUTTA THREE, PARADISE BY THE DASHBOARD LIGHT, FOR CRYING OUT LOUD
Dead Ringer: DEAD RINGER FOR LOVE
Bat II: ANYTHING FOR LOVE, LIFE IS A LEMON AND I WANT MY MONEY BACK, ROCK N ROLL DREAMS COME THROUGH, OBJECTS IN THE REAR VIEW MIRROR
Bat III: IT'S ALL COMING BACK TO ME NOW
Braver: WHO NEEDS THE YOUNG, SPEAKING IN TONGUES
Miscellaneous / New: NOT ALLOWED TO LOVE, WHAT PART OF MY BODY HURTS THE MOST

Danny L 07 Nov 2016 16:20

oh my lord I was about to divide them like that :P

Adje 07 Nov 2016 17:08

Just for the record. They are not Bat 1, Bat2, Bat3 or Braver songs. They are Jim Steinman songs, which is a rather big difference.

Oh I didn't mean anything negative about it but the Bat, deadringer songs etc. are Meat Loaf songs written by Jim Steinman.

The musical songs have basically nothing to do with the Meat Loaf songs. They are Jim Steinman songs. I am sure with some different arrangements, different performance etc.

But I don't think the Meat Loaf 'fans' identify them this way. I think the fans are well aware of the difference. It's more for the non-fans that know the songs or perhaps the albums that will identify them this way. Not sure any of them visit this board though ;)

letsgotoofar 07 Nov 2016 18:16

Either way, we've figured out 15 out of 17. Roll on the other two!

Danny L 07 Nov 2016 18:32

If they want to make this successful they need to cater to far more than the fanbase! And that's a very good thing:-

General rock and musical theatre fans, people who want a good night out and fans of shows such as We Will Rock You will come and see Bat, the songs will be exposed to a brand new audience. They will live on through productions of this show

I only got into Queen after seeing WWRY, buying The Platimum Collection.

As a Meat/Jim fan, and a musical theatre fan in general, I'm so excited for the new arrangements etc., and to see what context the songs will take in the story. I've wanted this for a long long time

Thisis a new beginning for Steinman's work, some of his most known tracks.

letsgotoofar 07 Nov 2016 19:11

My guess is "All Revved Up" and "Heaven Can Wait" -- those are the only two I have known to be in the show before that make sense.

Definitely no Still The Children or i would have thought they would have included it in the "not released" songs. And I wonder if it's use in the Wuthering Heights tv thing would mean no future.

Song update!

Meat Loaf confirms the presence of IT JUST WON'T QUIT in the show on Radio 2 this afternoon.

That puts the standings at:

Bat I: BAT OUT OF HELL, TOOK THE WORDS, TWO OUTTA THREE, PARADISE BY THE DASHBOARD LIGHT, FOR CRYING OUT LOUD
Dead Ringer: DEAD RINGER FOR LOVE
Bat II: ANYTHING FOR LOVE, LIFE IS A LEMON AND I WANT MY MONEY BACK, ROCK N ROLL DREAMS COME THROUGH, IT JUST WON'T QUIT, OBJECTS IN THE REAR VIEW MIRROR
Bat III: IT'S ALL COMING BACK TO ME NOW
Braver: WHO NEEDS THE YOUNG, SPEAKING IN TONGUES
Miscellaneous / New: NOT ALLOWED TO LOVE, WHAT PART OF MY BODY HURTS THE MOST

Only one left to discover!

Roger 13 Nov 2016 01:12

I count 3 left

I wish:

I'm gonna love her for both of us
Land of the pig
Only when i feel/break it

or Bad for good or all reved up with no place to go or out of the frying pan or lost boys and golden girls

I read somewhere that the musical includes 17 Meat Loaf songs and 2 or 3 previously unreleased songs.

According to batoutofhellmusical.com: the musical contains 20 songs

BAT OUT OF HELL is a breathtaking new musical that features 17 of Meat Loaf's greatest hits including I’d Do Anything for Love, Paradise by the Dashboard Light, You Took the Words Right Out of My Mouth (Hot Summer Night), Dead Ringer For Love, Two Out of Three Ain’t Bad, Bat Out of Hell and three new Jim Steinman originals written for the show.

At the time of writing, AT LEAST one of the above is correct (maybe two).

Surely Bad for Good, Lost Boys & Golden Girls and All Revved Up will be there? I mean they were written for it, no?

I'm really concerned that this musical may lack popular appeal. Ticket sales for Manchester have been terrible....partly due to ridiculous admission prices.

I am also surprised that Steinman hasn't included Total Eclipse of the heart, Holding Out for a hero, No matter what etc to add to its mainstream appeal.

Meat Loaf is not popular with young people anymore unfortunately. The average guy on the street is lucky if he can name three of Meat's songs.

The BAT tickets are - on the whole - less expensive than Bowie's 'Lazarus', which has just started its London run at King's Cross.

You could've said that about Queen ten years ago - relatively speaking - and yet WWRY was and is huge. I'd worry less about Meat's perceived 'popularity', and concentrate on the musical as an entity of its own

WWRY got me into Queen

Literally all three are already in successful musicals; in order of completion, "No Matter What" was in Whistle Down the Wind, "Total Eclipse of the Heart" was in Tanz der Vampire, and "Holding Out for a Hero" was in the stage version of Footloose. (Having said that, it didn't stop Jim from claiming the bulk of a song that was already in Tanz, but it's safe to say anything he co-wrote ["No Matter What" with Andrew Lloyd Webber, "Hero" with Dean Pitchford] is harder to claim.)

Booked in Manchester for March 9th 😀😀😀

ashkent7 13 Nov 2016 22:27

Yes I still count 3 to be named (as there has only been 14 of Meat's songs so far.)

I think Pig could be one with it not appearing the Batman the musical and probably would be sung by Falco for my money.

If there are 3 "new" tracks, I would have thought they would have announced all three at the same time. The thing is I can't actually think of a third that hasn't been floating around with the exception of Graveyard Shift and Wonderful Toys which i think are too Batman orientated unless there has been a lot of rewriting. So just have to wait and see on that one.

Of the other Meat ones I would still expect the rest of Bat to be completed.

You are joking? They seem extremely reasonable to me compared to many provincial theatres

Well Meat Loaf isn't in it ;) But if these young people have heard just a couple of Jim Steinmans songs they will know the calibre of the work .. and probably will know a couple more songs than any other new musical they go to ;) One might know the style to expect but not the songs in any new Webber musical.

With a seemingly young and vibrant cast, and rock opera songs that have consistently drawn audiences from ages 7 to 70 when Meat has toured, I'd think they have covered the bases pretty well!

Wario 14 Nov 2016 00:26

Im actually surprised at the amount of enthusiasm about this.

I personally cannot wait, but its interesting to see people who used to think only Meat can do these songs, support this.

Or is it just cause Meat has endorsed it and promoted it and Jims producing it? If thats the case, thats just wrong.

I guarantee if meat didnt promote it this, this would be met with more trepidation by the non-Steinman diehards (yes, theirs a split in this community that splits between Jim and Meat). Not dissimilar to the whole tribute discussions.

It was a VERY smart move to have Meat come out and do a press tour.

Dream Engine back in 2006 wasnt as universally supported and was even classified as a tribute show (which isn't an insult) by some. I was a learker once and I remember. Guess why? Meat wasnt involved.

All im hoping for is It Just Won't Quit. a mass audience needs to be exposed to that one.

Im glad at least something like this is getting (almost) universally supported.
Cannot wait for the broadway version to hit.

And I hope this musical begins to mend this split in the fan community that absolutely sucks.

Team MLUKFC and Team Rockman need to be merged. honestly. If everyone from rockman comes here and theres a Jim subforum our community would be so strong. Right now its not.

Nope.

There actually isn't a 'wrong' reason to be enthusiastic or not enthusiastic about the play. Whatever reason you have is the right decision for you. ;)

For some of us Meat is irrevocably engineered into the songs; this doesn't mean to say we'd not support it, be interested, and want it to succeed.

You'd guarantee this? What's that saying? .. a fool and his money are soon parted ;) You really give Meat's fans little credit.

A move you'd expect from any professional production company given Meat's standing in the UK, his close association with the Bat brand, and because he is the performer who's kept the songs alive here for 4 decades. Something he was clearly delighted and moved to do, and to publicly hand the mantle to Andrew.

In my view it doesn't, and they don't need to be. Members here who want to be part of Rockman already are, and vice versa. This has always been the Meat Loaf UK Fanclub, that has been Jim's. To even suggest dragging Jim's official site here as a sub-forum would be impertinent, and reminiscent of the issue with the original BOOH album cover.

rockfenris2005 14 Nov 2016 09:49

Jim's music is like Shakespeare to me. Meat owned what he did the way Olivier owned Richard III. In 300 years from now, there'll be other legends.

Wasn't the musical supposed to move to London later next year? Is the earlier move perhaps an indication of poor sales in Manchester?

I'm a bit apprehensive about this musical to be honest. I will probably go at some point. But the story sounds like Shrek. I hope there is a bit more to it because beyond gimmicks and good songs I ultimately think the story is really centrepiece. These days I like the fact that musical writers have been a bit more daring to look beyond the simple guy rescuing a girl and match made in heaven as the main driving force love story (see Wicked & Frozen).

Nevertheless I am very impressed the musical is happening after all this time and it is coming together. Hope it will be successful and of course very good.
