Life Of Pi. Mainly watched it as a demo of 4kuhd with hdr (impressive) but found myself strangely captivated by the gently charming story. Well performed, beautifully shot. 3/5

PanicLord 07 Oct 2016 23:55

The Revenant. Absurdly straight forward plot but that's not really such a bad thing. Outstanding acting all round. Stunning scenery in 4k uhd with hdr. 3/5.

Sebastian. 08 Oct 2016 00:18

Girl on the Train... 2/5. Would have been more entertaining if it had just been about her train journey...

PanicLord 09 Oct 2016 00:27

Florence Foster Jenkins. Hilarious, poignant, and with superb turns from the 3 leads. 4/5.

Oh and Hugh Grant leading a Lindy Hop party is the best thing I've ever seen on screen.

Tucker & Dale vs Evil (2010)

Very funny movie. Great Horror parody about a chain of event of misunderstanding death sequences.

7,5/10

Adje 12 Oct 2016 02:27

All Hallow's Eve (2013)

Low budget, decent horror movie. 3 stories with a killer clown wrapped around the main story line.

5/10

PanicLord 12 Oct 2016 08:17

Friday the 13th part 2. Not sure if it's just what we are used to in modern horrors now but the kills seem so low impact some how... so pedestrian. Still for the time it carries on the original film's story reasonably well and passes the time in a moderately amusing fashion. 2/5.

I always found Friday part 2 the best from the entire series. ;)

I preferred 1. Would have given 1 3/5. Part3 is apparently good so may watch that tonight.

PanicLord 12 Oct 2016 23:51

Friday the 13th Part 3. Better than 2 i thought with more tension and slightly more dramatic kills. As it was filmed in 3d the kills tend to be with long poles of different varieties eg harpoon, pitchfork etc. Also some good eye popping moments. Also good to see Jason in the mask and running around in blind rage. I'd give it a 3/5.

Well you did use a bad refference for quality.

Halloween, The Thing, Poltergeist, Nightmare on Elmstreet. Just a few within the same period of time are all so much better than Friday.

Also, from all the movies mentioned above, Friday was the one with the least 'heart' put into it. As Sean S Cunningham later admitted, the movie was quickly made just to cash in on the Halloween succes (which they did well, obviously).

That said, from the iconic 3 slashers (Halloween, Nightmare and Friday) Friday got the better reboot. Zombie destroyed Halloween and the Nightmare on Elmstreet reboot really missed what Robert Englund put in the Freddy character. I honestly expected the Friday reboot to continue where the other two were doomed to fail (I believe a new Halloween movie, based on Carpenter's vision is in the making).

But I'm ranting. Hope you enjoy part 3 (although it was just a silly excuse to use the cheap red&blue 3d gimmicks. I'm sure it will make you chuckle at times

EDIT: I see you saw it and found it... better than 2. Hahaha we are so way off in horror taste ;-)

The Car (1977)

I think it has been over 2 decades ago that I last saw this one. And to be honest, in my memory it was a more intense movie. Still vey decent though.

I prefer Spielberg's Duel over this one.

6.5/10

PanicLord 15 Oct 2016 01:39

Friday the 13th part 4 the "final" chapter. Back down to 2/5 again. Saved by a vaguely intriguing ending, Crispin Glover, gratuitous nudity, and a spirited fight back against Jason by the main woman. Other wise would have been a 1. So much stupidity creeping in. Stretch credulity and it's fun. Break it and it's dumb.

Lol I may not :)

Lights Out (2016)

Two major problems.
1 The plot was revealed too early in the film (and made it predictable)
2 The scary senes were never scary.

5/10

PanicLord 15 Oct 2016 23:31

Friday the 13th Part 5. Kudos for trying something new and trying to expand the universe. Clearly most fans of the franchise didn't agree as I think the next one goes back to basics.

Shall I go there? I'm gonna go there. 3/5.

5 is with the ambulance guy, right?

Alien (1979)

The original is still by far the best of the franchise.

9/10

Definitely the original and best. Aliens is very good but nowhere near as scary. 3 is under rated. Resurrection is largely garbage but with some flashes of good moments.

Monstro 16 Oct 2016 16:48

Saw Inferno last night, was ok but I'd wait for it to hit DVD or cable, better films out the to spend your money on at the flicks

PanicLord 16 Oct 2016 22:46

Friday the 13th part 6 Jason Lives!

Best of the sequels so far. Some genuine originality, some reasonable acting (no really!), proper Jason is back and extra wormy, and some actually quite good characters that make you actually care about them being killed. If I did half marks it would be 3.5. But I don't. So it's a very strong 3/5.

Adje 17 Oct 2016 02:13

Poltergeist (1982)

Simply amazing. Even after all those years it's still one of the best horror movies of all time.

9/10
