That's the reason why I don't want to work on school.

The Flying Mouse 13 Apr 2003 14:35

 I've never visited the real world and I don't intend too  .
Working in a school 8O that must be hard.It doesn't suprise me one bit that they need security officers these days.Next they'll be issuing the staff with riot guns  .
Apart from singing i'm also a childrens entertainer.I used to really enjoy my work but I think kids are growing up to fast now.I honestly can't remember the last time I did a magic show where I blew up a modeling balloon without one of the kids shouting out a rude comment  ,and these are kids aged 4-8 :? .
I blame it on the ammount of sexual references in music aimed at kids these days.I can't be discribed as a prude, but I just don't like this kind of exposure to young minds  .I can't understand a responsable adult allowing their children to listen to stuff like that  .
That's why I don't do as many kids shows as I used too. Also I prefer rock & roll and beer  .
Tim and Dottie, what age children do you work with and what are your thoughts?

dottie 13 Apr 2003 16:10

I work with 12 to 19 year olds - I quite agree about how the media lambasts our youngsters with so many blatant innuedoes - it is no wonder they are as they are? From pop videos to fashion the ideaology that children need to be all grown up by the time their twelve beats me. Whats let for them to find, explore ,determine their own self worth when they've all ready experienced the seedier side of life and find it o.k.!!I certainly didin't have these ideals for my own children and don't have them for my grandchildren. Many people over here regard these views as old-fashioned but if this is what it takes to let children be children once more we have to find a way of returning to the basics of decent family life.

Tim 13 Apr 2003 16:24

I'm standing in front of childeren between the 12 and 20. And from the lowest education to the highest education.
Mostly, 30 childeren in 1 class room.

It is hard. Childeren have changed a lot. I'm only 24, but still.... I can see the difference between when i was at school, and now. Even the last 2 years i've seen so much crazy things.
I've been threatend by those childeren, only because i gave them a grade that was to low, i've been accused, all kinds of stuff.
Don't know what it is, but i do think that it is this whole life, the parents of those childeren, and the way we consume things.

Not even to speak about the music. The lyrics in those songs, the way those girls and boys are dressed........ young people follow them, they addore them... And yet, those stars they use language that isn't the right one to use. Offcourse, some a dressed very nice....love it myself, but for some little childeren, that is nothing...... they compare each other with those stars, and ofcourse themselves.

As a teacher i try to give them a great time at school. I'm allways happy in front of the class, try allways to give a good example in front of the class, but even i can't manage that any more. It is hard......the parents blame us teachers...... we teachers blame the parents. Don't know why.... Think we have gone to far in our little lives!

Michel 13 Apr 2003 16:34

I see also the different between my age, 19, and my cousin from 12. I don't know what the problem is sometimes. Maybe the music, maybe the parents, maybe the teachers. Maybe everybody.

I absolutely don't get it.

The Flying Mouse 13 Apr 2003 16:53

 Hey Tim,I know a thing or two about fan worship  .It's a real shame that more stars can't set a better example :? .
I know what you mean how things have changed so quickly.I'm only 26 but I remember that things were better then.Hey,the kids were no angels then, but I think things have gone too far  .
I can understand how teachers and parents blame each other.I think it's down to the fact that neither have enough control anymore.Personally,I blame the government.Parents and teachers no longer have the right to disipline the children in their care. It's crazy that children can take their parents to court now 8O .Not that I advocte beating children of course, but when I was young the thing I feared above all was my mothers slipper. It didn't do me any harm in fact I would say that it did me a lot of good.
Also,I think a large part of the problem is the philosophy of "my friends parents let them do what they want".Until all parents can say no at the same time I think things will continue to deteriate :( .

Tim 13 Apr 2003 17:06

Flying Mouse, i see your point.

Indeed, the goverment has a lack of everything. Specially here in Holland (we have got the most stupid goverment there is, i protest against them).

But still, the way childeren behave, has to do with the parents. The parents are the first to correct the childeren. A teachter is only a person who can replace the parents in the daytime, and try to correct the childeren in the way the parents should do that.

And here is the problem! The parents are not educating or giving the childeren the good example!
They give birth to childeren, put them in a creche or with the grand parents. Parents are working, don't look after the childeren. Childeren get borred, have to look after themselves when school is over.....etc.

You see the problem. The society is the problem of it all. It is what we have created.

dottie 16 Apr 2003 13:49

Sssh!

Its quiet in here again - missed Meat by a hairs breadth again

Tim 16 Apr 2003 16:08

Well, not quiet........i'm here!! LOL

But i've got of work to rate.......homework from the childeren. Very funny...... Think i'm gonna do that, in the sun.....with beer, a sigaret...o yeah!!

The Flying Mouse 16 Apr 2003 16:16

 Marking papers with a beer  .
That'll make your students happy.Even if the work is not good you'll be feeling gererous and give top marks  .

Tim 16 Apr 2003 16:30

Indeed, with some beer, my students will be very happy........but i'm a very though teachter!!!
So they won't get away with the things that they have made easily!

dottie 16 Apr 2003 18:08

Had 1 hour in the sun today - its 70f odd here today - it was quiet out there too, not even a bird to keep me company

Tim 16 Apr 2003 19:28
