I wondered if somebody could help me with an Outlook Express 6 problem I have?

Yesterday it crashed and closed. I've now lost one of my folders (plus all my deleted items disappeared at the same time but that's no problem). I've looked under tools / maintenance and storage and I can see the folder with the .DBX extension so I know it still exists. How do I get that folder back into Outlook Express so that I can read the e-mails again?

Pudding 27 Jul 2009 12:00

If you go back to a 'restore point' doesn't that re-frig the computer without losing any files or folders?

Nah I don't think you can mess up a DVD player that easily. The unlock codes are usually only to make the thing play region free. But if you are not using any unlock codes I wouldn't worry.

Interestingly I think Blu Ray drives are much more restricted when it comes to region encoding, but then the regions are different too.

Most blu-rays are region free.

Could anybody suggest the best way to backup e-mails and e-mail addresses? I had to get a new hard drive yesterday and I've lost all my e-mails and addresses.

Is there a file on my computer that I can backup in case it happens again?

AndyK 23 Aug 2009 20:54

Depends what you use as your email client.

SueW 23 Aug 2009 22:11

Outlook Express.

I think I may just send any important e-mails to my Gmail account so that I have another copy.

RadioMaster 24 Aug 2009 18:34

here's another question for ya:

I wanna export my itunes library from my notebook to my new desktop pc. Now, there is a function called export library, but I'm pretty sure it only copies the file locations and not the songs themselves.

Is there any way I can use my old library on my new computer without copying every single song and change the directory on every single entry in the library?

AndyK 24 Aug 2009 20:47

iTunes is the devils work.

Hypnobabe 24 Aug 2009 20:50

Yes, sync your i-pod with your old library, then connect it to the new pc. You can sync with up to 5 computers at a time, I've used three of my connections so far, what with hard drives/motherboards dying on me... Make sure you enable the 'use as hard drive' thingy on the summary page when it's syncing too, that'll make life easier for you.

RadioMaster 28 Aug 2009 21:04

  1. Pack up PC in a box
  2. Take to local friendly electrical retailer
  3. Drop box
  4. Buy a DVD player - preferably one with one BIG button marked "PLAY"
  5. Get someone to plug it in for you

Sorted

This may sound silly but do you have either a DVD software suite installed or have a DVD codec downloaded for media player?

It's not getting that far. If the disc is being rejected, then either the disc is faulty, the drive is faulty, or Wario is putting the discs in upside down ...

Wario 29 Aug 2009 01:04

Thanks everyone for not being of any help :D

I unistalled teh drive and reinstalled it nothing.

Im getting a bit annoyed lol

If you'd read my comment earlier (about the drive being dead) you wouldn't have bothered.

When you put in a CD or DVD, the drive itself does a quick check. If it then ejects the disc, that check failed. i.e. the drive thinks that instead of putting in a CD or DVD, you put in a piece of toast. So it's nothing to do with any software drivers or codecs or applications or the design of your backpack.

The laser is probably dusty. You could try cleaning it if you can get at it. Or, easier/cheaper/more likely to fix it, just get a new drive and swap it.
