I love it too. The first Jurassic Park is still great. The sequels suffer from the law of diminishing returns though.

I think it's increadible what CGI was capable of 16 years ago, when most recent films dont even reach that level!

I think there is a difference between using CGI in a subtle/effective way and just using it as a tool if you don't have a story/reason for making a film. If you look closely at the T Rex scene in JP (which is absolutely amazing and one of the best bits of Hollywood cinema I can think of) the blend between the CGI dino and the real half T Rex puppet they had has been done extremely well, it just looks incredibly real. They pushed the envelope in many ways, not just CGI but having an electric dino puppet been blasted by rain etc.
Just filling the screen with endless CGI created landscapes such as they have done in GI Joe doesn't do much for me anymore (I agree the first time it was impressive in the mid 90s). I sincerely hope it completely stops as it is just not impressive anymore imo, just boring and stupid.

Actually come to think of it. Compare Jurassic Park to King Kong (2005 remake) and you will probably see what I mean. JP is awesome and scary and well thought out, King Kong is such a load of shit and it is just stupid.

RadioMaster 17 Aug 2009 18:48

the thing is, you gotta know where to stop. CGI was way more complicated in 1993, so they only used it where they couldnt use puppets, and even there only in a way that it helps the story, not that it becomes the story.
While today it seems many moviemakers just wanna show off what they can do with CGI, and that becomes inredibly annoying. (-> anyone remember Jar Jar Binks?)

Last film I saw....

Having spent the weekend decorating the kitchen, they were:

Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, (the kids have been playing Lego Indiana Jones on the PS3, I was inspired - what can I say?) Contact, Sweeney Todd - The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, Hellboy, and Dead Poets Society.

It's been a long weekend.

Yes, it is actually a very good movie, one of the best ones that I have seen lately.

Tarantino's Inglorious Basterds
One of the best flicks this year hands down. The bad guy is one of the scariest bad guys ever. Fantastic acting throughout. Great lengthy dialogues, typical Tarantino. Wish there were more movies like this, rather than the 2 second cuts MTV style CGI flick stuff.

Also watched a bit of Whale Rider on BBC2 again. Still great. Has it been 7 years already?, bloody hell.

looks like I'll have to go and watch it after all. I usually like Tarantino, but I'm not into war movies. But everyone says it's not a typical war movie... I'll see...

Transporter 3

Betty 25 Aug 2009 23:34

Public Enemies
welllll, thatīs been 2,5 wasted hours of my life  lol
Johnny Depp is a complete miscast

Rocky V

now got only one movie left. That Rocky Anthology box was definitely worth the 20€!

Evil One 26 Aug 2009 14:12

Next. Good film let down by two things. 1) a rubbish ending and 2) Nicolas Cage playing the same boring role he always seems to play these days.

Dracula....

Sarge 26 Aug 2009 20:36

Tommy

Tina Turner as the Acid Queen was the best.

RadioMaster 27 Aug 2009 20:44

The boat that rocked

That's the kind of stuff, that got me into radio in the first place. Sadly you dont have a lot of people like that around anymore, who are really into it with their heart, and not just for the money.

(the movie even had a small Meat Loaf reference in it btw)

"Sweet Home Alabama" on TV. I changed the channel after 20 minutes; should I have given it longer?

G.I.Joe - not bad, not great either, got to see it for free, so mustn't grumble.

RadioMaster 30 Aug 2009 22:27

The people under the stairs

scared the crap out of me as a kid. Still think it's a great way of telling a horror story.

AndyK 31 Aug 2009 12:34

Lesbian Vampire Killers.

Hilarious, in a lads mag kind of way, a film that runs from one-liner to one-liner and once it's finished you can't remember a single funny line in it.

allrevvedup 31 Aug 2009 15:52

inglorious basterds....good, strange and long in parts but worth seeing.

Pudding 02 Sep 2009 02:23

Duplicity - what a giant pile of squirrel poop :shit:

Skeleton 02 Sep 2009 07:30

Are You Scared?

It said in the review that the end is unexpected, but frankly I quess the end.. I've seen a lots of films so the end wansn't that unexpected..

And as a matter of fact, the film was completely rubbish..

RadioMaster 02 Sep 2009 08:56

UHF

Didnt really think it was that great, but I guess that's often the case with 'cult classics'.
Was still enjoyable though. The humour and random cutaways somehow reminded me of Family Guy, and I think Wayne's World might has been heavily influenced by this movie.
